Conservatives want to be victims so badly. But it is fascinating how the "conservative viewpoint" has been eroded down to the bigoted core by the march of progress.

Lady with gun is a bit of a broad thing to claim as a character.

Because they are contractually obliged to sell the game at the same price everywhere.

But they are not under Steam's contract, not for a year at least. I think you missed the point of that; why would any developer/publisher abide by Steam's rules when they are not beholden to them, like IO in this case, or any other who signs up for exclusivity. Therefore there can only be two possibilities, either it's Epic's contract that forces them to use the industry standard but it's ridiculously unlikely or it's IO's own idea, sell it for 60$ and make more money off of the split.

And honestly I wouldn't cream my pants over a 5 AUD discount, in fact it's almost an insult considering how Epic tried to sell the split passing the profits of the developers to us consumers. But we do seem to agree that developers/publishers are ultimately greedy, but where we obviously disagree is that it's absolutely silly blaming Valve for it.

@bu1ld0g: And what's stopping them from dropping prices everywhere? On Steam and everywhere else? If you say "muh split" then why not just dump Steam and sell for the cheaper price on some other store, seeing as they're not bound by the agreement then? It seems to me there's nothing in that agreement that demands games cost 60$, no less, no more.

For example, very few Epic exclusives have actually been cheaper on launch than on Steam. Let's take Hitman 3, a very recent example, it sells for 60$ but is not on Steam thanks to exclusivity. As a selfpublished game, what stopped IO Interactive from selling the game at a cheaper price? They aren't selling on Steam, and won't be for at least a year. Surely, they could get the crucial launch period sales done on a cheaper price, but get more thanks to the split, then release on Steam a year later at the same price to for those who won't use EGS for whatever reason?

How is it Steam's fault IO, and everyone else, sells at the standard price for games in this instance?

@mooglestar: Getting 8 hours from a horror title is pretty good, so long as it can keep suspense up. Getting a 40+ hour horror game is impossible because of this; how afraid can you stay if you're picking up, I dunno, forks for someone as a sidequest?

You might also want to check what tank controls mean.

Cool. Just wish they actually playtested the thing and made it so dialogue plays at certain points and doesn't hang up progression because you can't interact with stuff while the game thinks someone's talking.

Interestingly most of the argumentation against Steam centered around EGS and it's split. Even the messiah of the games industry Sweeney gets a shout. Mentions of Microsoft were very scarce, mostly when brought up alongside Epic's split. And considering even the article goes on about developer splits, I wouldn't be surprised there's someone else behind the lawsuit.

But it is hilarious how they're blaming Steam for other platforms not being able to just... sell games for less. Somehow.
