[QUOTE="-Pred-Alien-"]He had some great songs, but was he really a great musician? I mean yeah he maintained some control and wrote some of his lyrics, but can you compare him to the likes of the Beatles or Stevie Wonder?FrozenLiquid
Some control? Some lyrics? Apart from the early Rod Temperton days (which was Off the Wall and Thriller), Michael Jackson is the reason his music so appealing, not just Quincy Jones and Teddy Riley. He wrote Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Billie Jean, Beat It, Stranger in Moscow, Scream, They Don't Care About Us, which are only a few among some of his most lyrically interesting and aurally complex songs. Most of the time, he's producer on his tracks, and if you know what a record producer does, then you will know they shape the overall song (they're basically the 'director' of the song).
But Michael Jackson was more than just a musician. The dude was an entertainer. Musicians can sing, play instruments etc but if you see their showmanship, they can really truly suck. Michael Jackson worked the camera to the point of exhausting it. He could keep his falsetto as he thrusted his pelvis. He could hold a note as he strutted across the stage. And what's worst? He made it all look damn easy.
Very few can match his excellence across all boards.
Damn Right! R.I.P to the King of pop
