When it comes to the games industry, we have come a very long in the past thirty or so years - we have gone from simple, generic concepts like Space Invaders and Pacman to fully-explorable virtual universes as in Grand Theft Autoand World of Warcraft. Indeed, as one developer pointed out in the recent Game's Developer's Conference, the graphics will soon enough become photo-realistic. And so that leads me to question the very future of our industry; for so long, the focus has been on technical improvement. Photo-realistic graphics, therefore, will surely put an end to this - so what's next?
I personally am extremely curious as to where gaming will go in the next thirty years. I believe it will be the cornerstone of technological advancement and will become as mainstream as other forms of media, such as books, films and music. The industry has such a massive amount of potential, and from someone who has been gaming since the 16-bit era, that is both amazing and incredibly exciting.
