All the new games work on the FAT PSP, there has been no reason for them to change the format of the disks. There is no way to "over charge" a battery. Even if it is bad, you can buy one for about 30 dollars at any store.
The 2nd chariot race is long and I have tried many times. Does anyone have a Gamesave just after this race?
Look at one of the walkthroughs in the "Hints and Cheats" section. It really helped, but good luck, as this section is tough!! Oh, by the way, the walkthrough that you will be looking for is the onethat talks about the new levels added to the PSP title.
You can buy a headset with a microphone so that you can talk to people while you are playing with oragainst them.
