@Valen_Ca Good point, key thing I can think of is the 360 backward compatibility as that wouldn't be needed for XB1. Also Win 8 may need an update to support the new driver, who's to say the XB1 is not running a newer version of win8 like the upcoming 8.1 version. Also may not be worth hassle of saying it works on win 8 only to have win 7 users bitch - may be best to wait and release simultaneously.
@MickSharples They would have little incentive to "bend developers and publishers over a barrel", they want developers and publishers and each game sold gives them some coin back. So they need consumers to keep buying games. Just because a monopoly would exist doesn't mean the monopolizing company would harm those that develop for it's platform. Windows has over 90% of the desktop market (and had more in the past), which is very much a monopoly and they don't extort EA or Blizzard. It's self serving for them (even with a monopoly) to have lots of demand and content and price it where the consumer will purchase it. A console monopoly would have no incentive to pump developers for so much they would cease to exist.
@deadly_yank33 @Void_Kross That's going to happen anyway. Most games are multiconsole/platform so why add extra dev time for Kinect anyway? If they indeed want/need Kinect then they will anyways and if they don't then they won't even if everyone has 1 cause they will be releasing on multiple platforms that don't all have it. So MS may as well offer a cheaper bundle for those who are willing to forego Kinect games/features at least initially (being able to buy one later if desired).
@Noonewarrior Ha that might be a good play (at this point), MS says screw it we saw your comments on twitter and all and we aren't releasing XB1 now. Then 2 years from now they release with better hardware than PS4.
@GAKSITAL I think it's because many 360 only owners planned on getting XB1 then MS so totally screwed up at E3 so they changed their minds, but MS now is giving them more reasons to come back to XB1 and for many that would take it costing the same or less than PS4 which could be done by removing the Kinect which many don't care about (would rather save money in any case).
I think most moaning to remove the Kinect aren't the same ones that already picked the PS4 and if so then it's only because of price and MS launching this sooo poorly.
@cpuchess Really? Seems to me like their changes are for the better. So if they change their minds again it likely would make the system better.
I am less likely to by one because of the price difference and that MS didn't yield to consumer complaints by E3 time-frame. I feel they had ample feedback and opportunity to do so by then. At least they seem to be more consumer oriented for the moment, so hopefully that will continue.
@Marvel521 You're going to be disappointed then when I tell you PS4 will not play PS3 games. Just like XB1 will not play 360 games. You can hope that many of the best PS3 games will be re-released on PS4, but who knows.
@JBStone1981 I for one, would rather save some money than be forced to buy a system with it. Course no one is forcing me, there's other consoles and options which seems to be forcing MS to change course and if enough gets said about it maybe a cheaper XB1 package without Kinect will become reality sooner. Seems like consumers are getting some of what they want so why not ask for this.
