yup, youre right, considering the price and well, lack of games, i think sony is doing well.. if they get a killer app. itll probablt be right behind the 360 in a year or 2... maybe..VendettaRed07everyone also needs to remember that 360's killer ap is coming in a couple weeks once that comes 360 sale will sky rocket and sony needs to be out selling 360 every month to have any hope of ever catching up with 360
[QUOTE="DarthaPerkinjan"]This is a real thread about the reality of Playstaton 3's success and why it is not a failurefrom a Playstaton 3 owner and supporter trying to be as honest as he can be.
Hear me out on this
First off, I'm very dissapointed in the logic some Xbox 360 supporters are using. Note I said 'SOME'. I'm sure there is a great deal of 360 supporters or guys who own multiplats out there who do not share such thinking.
They claim that because the Playstation 3 did not eclipse the 360 in salesduring it's first 9 months or outsell it until recentlyit is a failure.
The truth? Despite being $200-$300 more in price the Playstation 3 has managed to nearly match the Xbox 360's pace through it's first 9 months DESPITE competition from the crazy popular Nintendo Wii and the more established Xbox 360. Once again, SOME 360 supportersor maybe just plain out PS3 haters say "This isn't 12 months ago!!11!" Does it matter?
Lets say 2 long distance runners get ready for a race. The race will last6 years.(console lifespan) One runner (360)gets a 12 month head start in clear weather (no competition)and averages 10mph (SALES). The other runner (PS3)starts out 12 months later inbad weather (alot of competition)but only averages 9 mph. Is it right to call the 2nd runner a loser and a failure because he started out later and is slightly behind the first runner in pace? no. And guess what, just recently the second runner (PS3) is at 10.5mph. And with 5 years left, anything can happen. And forget the Wii, that sucka is a hare. It's averaging 50mph. But could this end up being a tortise and the hare type race? We'll see
Another point, Xbox 360 had ZERO competition through it's first12 months, yet Sony has been able to almost match it's pace despite, once again, costing $200-$300 more. If that's not impressive, I don't know what is. Anddon't thinkall Playstation 3 supporters thought Playstation 3 would run away with it despite being $300 more expensive. That insults our intelligence. Even Sony didn't set their goals that high. Anyone with a shred of common sense could tell you that wouldn't happen.
Xbox 360 has soldroughly 11million units through it's first 21 months, which equalsroughly 4.7million through it's first 9 months
The Playstation 3 has sold 4.5 million through it's first 9 months despite, again, being significantly more expensive and a lack of must have games.
Why is Playstation 3 so close to the pace of the Xbox 360 despite no must have exclusive games and a high price tag?
4reasons
1. The Failure of the Xbox 360 in Japan. Playstation 3 consitantly outsells the 360 in Japan on a 5-1 basis
2. 130,000,000 PS2 users upgrading in anticipation of playing their favorite Playstaton franchises on the PS3. Don't say 'Give me a Link proving they want to/will upgrade'. It's just common sense they want to upgrade. In fact, the vast majority I have spoken with are waiting for the price to drop even more.
3. Xbox 360 hardware problems. The RROD. I have seen newspaper column, internet columns, everything everywhere about people who are afraid to purchase the 360 because of the RROD. This is a very real problem.
4.The Xbox 360's first year wasn't stellar gamewiseuntil the release of Gears of War. So alot of gamers didnt see the need to upgrade until then.
Realists like myself knew the Playstation 3 wouldn't outsell anything for quite a while. But calling it a failure because it hasn't set the world on fire at $600 is just as rediculous as saying the Playstation 3 would outsell the 360 and the Wii in it's first year.
The Playstation 3 is in no means a failure. Please stop creating threads calling it one just because you hate it or cannot afford it. The console doesn't break, and there is great exclusive games coming out for it

So it also has a great lineup of games. No reason to call it a failure.
The price will continue to drop as things like the blu-ray diodes drop in price.
So after reading the above, can you still call it a failure?
xicidal
Its a failure... It is nothing compared two ps1 and 2 in terms of sells. That could change though.
Actually its exactly compared to ps1 and 2 in sales they both had bad first years i do however dought that it will change this time around, because of how much sony has been screwing up in the past year or two
I think PS3's future does look good a lot better than wii or 360 and you have to remember that sony always has a bad first year. last time it wasn't until FFX came that anything started happening and before that it wasn't until FFVII came although now the curcumstances are different and im doughting sony more simply because of the way PSP is going.
