What he said1. The Covenant (or aliens) believe the rings have some sort of religious significance, and activating them would bring them to "salvation"(aka: The Great Journey). What really happens when you activate the rings, however, is that it destroys all sentient life within its' blast radius (i think it was 25,000 light years per ring or something) and since Master Chief is hindering them from their "Great Journey" they consider him a "demon."
2. 7 rings in total(1 was destroyed in the 1st halo game). They were built by an ancient race known as the "forerunners" as weapons of last resort (sort of like a nuke) against the parisitic creatures known as the"Flood."(those zombie-like beings)
3. Not his wife, an A.I. She holds a lot of human knowledge and she was captured by the Flood leader in Halo2. Chief is a cyborg. A genetically altered human that is faster and stronger than regular soldiers. A super soldier... think Captain America in Iron Man's armor. (except he can't fly or shoot energy blasts. lol)
