Look, I aknowledge that ReCore is far from a must play title. But honestly the game is fun. The additions of the DE make the game much better. I went back to it yesterday after maybe 10 months off and got hooked in. Been playing it all day and having a blast. If I'm being honest the world is bland, the story is forgetable and the characters are non existent. But the game is FUN. For $20, I'd recommend picking it up.
@Benny_a: That's kinda BS. Movies are worked on by hundreds of people, yet we consider them art. I know you said the script dictates what happens but that is true in video games too. To say a game is only art if it's worked on by one person is wrong. You can't say Minecraft is more artistic than The Last of Us just because it was made by a single guy. Art is the process of expressing ideas through craft. Shadow of the Collosus, BioShock, hell even GTA serves as a social commentary which one could argue is art. It's possible to be both art and a commercial product, that's why Van Gogh's sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, that's why The Dark Knight won Oscars and also made over $1 billion.
Aside from the fact it was ruled by a court of law that video games are art, they fit the most basic concept. Writers craft stories, artists draw creatures and worlds, designers build levels and create AI. In a way, video games are the highest form of art because it employes all different kinds of art to create something more than the sum of its parts.
@Benny_a: The "tasks" in ME:A are bullshit. But the side missions I thought were great. All the collect a thons people complain about are relegated to the task missions and since you can get ample research data just from the story missions, you can completely skip them with no penalty. Meanwhile I found the overall gameplay of HZD horrible. I hated fighting the machines and the forced stealth mechanic Sony is putting in all their games is pissing me off.
@Benny_a: Video games are an artform. And is the primary function of art not to express the ideas and beliefs of the artist? You can disagree with the message all you want, you are completely within your right to do so. But that does not mean that there is something inherently wrong with it.
In the case of Mass Effect Andromeda, there are plenty of objective, quantifiable problems. These are valid critisms. But message and themes of the game are not something you can really list as a "flaw" because they are subjective.
I hate the anti-military themes of Full Metal Jacket, but that doesn't mean I condemn the movie and fail to recognize its brilliance.
