To build off what everybody has been saying, I think LBP is under the radar, but it has way too many reasons to be successful. Much like Boom Blox, it's tempting to all audiences both in content and in hardcore/casual, and it's going to be critically loved (at least from what I can see). It's also expandable with content in a way that only an online community can support and with the PS3 being the only console with a guaranteed hard drive and free online support, this seems like the best starting point.
Like the Orange Box and Oblivion: GOTY, it's one of those games that seems almost like too much game for $59.99. The only difference is, the developers seem to not only love but support the console (as valve hates PS3 and Bethesda seems to clearly prefer the 360).
It may be a slow start, but I foresee a huge initial release and then a subtle great climb through the holidays. It's also in some advertisements and in big cities, the non-traditional advertising has been kinda cool and sacboy/sacgirl can sell almost any audience.
[QUOTE="Ownsin"]take my advice everyone, dont buy MKII from the psn... i bought it and i also wasted my money on a crap game, that i thought would be cool... ive been a MK fan since i was a kid and really this one sucks... and i dont know why i keep getting my ass kicked :S??, i also played on easy too.... and it was hard....Prisoner1137
so you don't like a game that gives you a challenge? WOW...just wow.
Yeah, I guess you shouldn't play Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Metal Gear Solid 4 (on medium or higher), Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Call of Duty 4, and many others! I agree, wow...just wow!
People said the same thing about the UMK 3 DLC on the 360. First off, $5! Really? Really? You feel that cheated because you dropped $5, but you don't feel worse that for $3 they are giving you approx 10 mins of HD video for Qore?
Also, you need to know that back in the days when this game was in arcades, they would update the software and have the AI start using the more cheap and common techniques that players were using because good players were beating the game in a quarter or two. The final revision (2.4?) was tough as hell. I remember dropping at least $5 getting through Kintaro and Shao Kahn (at 50 cents a play). The PSN version of MK II is based on that final build engine and therefore will have a ramped up difficulty. The game is also adaptive (yeah, they did that on many of the arcades) so if you're better than your skill level, the game will ramp up and start to give you a challenge. I beat this game when I was 12 and I replayed it now that I'm 26 and I'm still able to beat it. It's tough, but I can beat it. I think the OP was just out of stuff to complain about and this was an easy target because it's old and tough, but it's five dollars! c'mon!
I'm a little like the OP, I was more a fan of old school 2D fighters like MK series (pre-MK 4) and SF series (including Alpha series), so I had the forsight to know I may not like SC IV. Then I downloaded the demo and that bad boy was damn fun!
I still had the better judgement than to purchase it having just played the demo and I rented it. The game is fun, it's got some cool mechanics, I actually like the critical finishers and the timing is what really sold me. Having said that, without someone to play with and the sluggish online play, this game just couldn't hold me for much longer than a few hours. Good game and if you've got a few friends who come over and play, great game, but sadly no one plays fighters in my gaming world anymore so I had to return it and leave it. Impressive work from Namco Bandai, though, I haven't had interest in SC or Tekken in a long while!
Okay, first off, why are you discussing the 360 iteration on the PS3 forum? I've played the game on both and based on the community and bugginess I'm noticing the game tends to run much smoother on the PS3. There are a couple bugs here and there, but not nearly as many as the 360. Also, no one is ever inviting me to their game over and over on the PS3 like they have been on the 360 so I prefer playing that one as well. I also liked the install to reduce load times, they seemed quite long in the 360 version and even though I had to wait for the install in the PS3 version, I'd rather wait 5-7 minutes upfront than in-game.
The game is quite a bit shorter than I planned and I could have asked for a better storyline, but overall the game is just damn fun! Isn't that what video games are still about? Just have fun. Having said that, the game is just about average to me: 7.0 (until my official review goes up).
You used the term "hooked up to the wall", which, even living in an upscale Chicago high rise, is RARELY a completely open and free ethernet connection. I'm guessing you are hooking up to a phone line, which isn't the same thing. You might also have a cable modem hooked to a random RG-6 Coaxial port (used for cable tv, cable modems, etc) as well as hooked to your PS2, but without purchasing the internet, again, you won't have a connection.
Wait, aw crap, is this a bogus question! If not, send more info, if so, you're the reason that no one takes forum users seriously!
