[QUOTE="squitsquat"][QUOTE="Spellingiscool"] Pure luck? Are you kidding me? That suggests that these shots are automatic, which they aren't. USA choked. Japan didnt, end of story.

even the announcers said it was basically a lottery when it comes down to PK's, while it may not be all luck, luck plays far more into it than skill Someone hasn't been in a high-pressure situation. So what do you say when a person misses a pivotal free throw with no time left on the clock? "Oh gee, how lucky of the other team that he missed the free throw" No, you'd say: "Wow, he completely choked the game away". I mean seriously, if that second shot for the USA wasnt a choke then I don't know what was. a freethrow and a PK are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
A freethrow is skill, you shoot it straight to the basket
A PK on the other is luck, if you kick right and the goalie goes the other way, well too bad for them, it doesn't mean you are any good or they are bad, it just means you got lucky that they went the other way
Congrats to japan, but fifa needs to find a better way to do it. The US should have won, but they missed chances. But deciding the game on pure luck, is dumb.

Sucks that we lost, but how ironic would it have been for America to be feeling good about winning a sport that is largely not cared about and won by the gender that usually dismissed when it comes to sports?

That would have been ironic but just from talking to people where i live, though i know that's not the entire country, it seems like womens soccer did more for the sport than mens soccer
