New Level and New Game

I just got to level 38. DJ BOY.

I didn't remember this game until I googled it. And then I remembered how many coins I spent on this game back in the arcade days. It was hard as hell and never really enjoyed it...

Anyway I got the chance to buy a new game and surprisingly it wasn't Mass Effect 3. The reason? I really want to take my time with this game. I want to create a good history behind it (I will play ME 2 for instance) so my selection was this:

WHy? Because I have sports games but I don't have a soccer game. And this one is different in many ways. It is more dinamic and especially... It has a lot of funs. I got it for a good price so I won't regret it later. I didn't. At least for the last couple of hours I played it. So if any of you has it and want to play a couple of games, let me know. FYI, I am terrible with it

After a full analysis of my budget, I will be able to buy three games during the year on the date of release (Not counting Mass Effect 3) The chosen ones are: Hitman: Absolution, Bioshock Infinite and Grand Theft Auto V... The rest, can wait a little.

And maybe is too early to make expectations but I can't wait for the E3...

Cheers and have a great Weekend

Old School is good school

In order to quiet my urge to play Mass Effect 3, I decided to play the first one. Mass Effect is a very good game. It is incredible that I was able to find more things related to the game after a long time missing it. I completed it (With some Achievements) and wanted more.

When I was going to play Mass Effect 2, I checked the XBOX board and watched a sale on Borderland's DLC. I went crazy and bought all four fo 1600 MSP (Practically everything I had, the 100 remaining were spent in a Palyer Image for the LA Dodgers which you might be able to see in my Profile). Borderlands is one of my favorite games ever for the XBOX. Including more missions and deep lothing was a no brainder for me. I have just played Dr. Ned's Zombie Island mission and I had a good time. My only complains are having to start for the beggining after a save (This world is not short) and the huge ammount of zombies you have to deal with. It is exciting at first but then it is tiresome. It was a fun time and people keep telling me that General Knoxx and New Revolution are even better (And they say that buying the Underdome was dumb... We'll see)

COnsidering that these two games will have or already have a sequel this year, it was good to get a little hype by playing an old version. Now it is turn to play Mass Effect 2 to achieve a better character to play Mass Effect 3.

And for what I have seen the next months are going to be slow for gaming... Let's see how this year comes out.

What about you? What are you planning to play during the next days.

BTW, The earthquake in Mexico City was just a scare. No big issues, everything is ok. I didn't feel it at my hometown... Just so you know :P

Metacritic or how to miss perception of gaming

I love reading reviews. One of the most satisfying things to read is about how another gamer enjoyed a game with full detail sharing his or her passion and all those feelings he had while playing such game. There is a big difference between sharing thoughts about the game and just saying It's Good or it's bad.

I remember, when I was young, how all my friends got together to share experiences about new games we got when we got the chance to do it. We undestood in full detail about it. Those were great conversations: How you beat a boss, some interesting turn in a cool story, how much kills did you have, how long it took you to get a trophy. Detailling about the beauty of the graphics, the impressive sensations that music brrought during a boss fight, the impressive atmosphere in a game that invites you to play it at night... Sharing secrets, perceptions... Everything. Those were small reviews.

The magazines of the old time (When internet was just growing up) we saved money to buy a very expected magazine (During my Nintendo time it was CLUB NINTENDO :P ) that contained reviews from new games. Unfortunatelly, not every game was reviewed so there was still some trial and error on that.

When Internet was available, we were able to get a review for almost any game available. We were able to get information about games and even share our thoughts with gamers all around THE WORLD... and then, PLAY THEM.

What could go bad on this magic reality? The boring style of METACRITIC

METACRITIC, if you don't know, is a database that makes an average of every gaming related site that are attached to a game. The problem I have with it is the "bland" style to take EVERY review score and give the game a full score that many people use to check a game.

I see it practical as a reference, but not as a full guide. I may be to old fashioned or romantic if you want, but that site takes away a lot of the sharing experience. Maybe I am making a lot out of of something little.

I have no idea if you have been there or how much you enjoy it but I rather spend a good 10 minutes reading a review that just 1 second watching a numbre that is not really the true identity of the game.

"I am not a number... I am a free man"

BTW, The site gave MASS EFFECT 3 a 94 average. Does that really tells you how good the game is?

Have a nice day

Hiatus

After a long time I decided to come and write a little...

As you probably remember, my hours at work were reduced and that situation forced me to take some overtime during this time in order to cover the offtime I will have. During april and may, I will take about 5 weeks off plus another two on july.

Good news is that I had.a very generous week and with overtime I will get a very interesting bonus and I will be easy during the next months.

Obviously, Gaming has take a secondary status on my daily life. Since the hard part is over, I may get more time to play my backlog. With games like Fallout: New Vegas, Saints Row: The Third, Darksders, Oblivion's DLC, Skyrim and many more, I have a lot of gaming to do... and unfortunatelly, great games are coming around

Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2, Hitman: Absolution Bioshock Infinite, Assassin's Creed III are on the top of my list but considering my finances and my backlog I won't have many games very soon.

Plus, I am considering some vacation time with my wife. Possibly to USA in case we have enough money.

I ho to be around more often, I certainly think I can be around here more often checking your blogs. I must admit that reading about your thoughts, gaming achievements and your daily life experiences are a good way to relax. I will keep doing it.

I you feel like playing a good old game, just let me know. I will start taking dust off my 360 :P

You shall not let good opportunities pass...

There is a very interesting feature on XBOX Live arcade right now. During the countdown until 2012, there will be a good offer every day.

I know that I said that I would not buy more games but you must take good opportunities when they come so yesterday (12 on the countdown) they had Bastion Half Price. Considering it was named one of the best Downloadable games, of the year, I think it was a good deal (600 pts) I will play the game later but I think it will be a good surprise.

Today (11 at the countdown) there was a 50% off for Kinect games... Didn't care.

I hope they put a good offer on Oblivion's DLC. I should jump on that one like a starving bear on a honey jar. (Worst analogy ever  )

I hope you all are making your Xmans shopping :D See you around!

Oblivion... Completed? and my first Christmas gift

Yeah, Right... Like that is even possible.

Such games are impossible to "complete" Every time you play it you find something new, being a new weapon, a new location or even new enemies and quests that are not "official" but they are there. Even leveling can become a good challenge.

Today I finished the Thieves Guild questline... It was the hardest of all the guild related quests and possibly of all the game. But I feel great about it. ANd there is a lot that I can say about this game. It was immersive and impressive. I have played 115 hours and I am still a level 23 player almost completing every quest I have gotten, except for the Daedra Princes quests. I have all 1000 Achievement points for the "normal game" so in order to get the complete score, I will get Shrivering Islands, but that would be later since I thinkl I had a little too much OBLIVION and I don't want to spend more money until I complete this game.

For now, I think I am going to take a quick rest for Huge adventures meaning that SKYRIM will have to wait a while. I am going to start another game or probably complete Deus Ex or Darksiders which I still have around, or probably have some wacky fun with Saints Row, or finish the Ezio Auditore saga. And later I have to choose between Fallout: New Vegas or SKYRIM for my next huge adventure. I feel like I have a lot to do and so little time. All these games will keep me busy for the ammount of time prior to the only game I REALLY want for the first four months of next year: MASS EFFECT 3.

Christmas is close and I need to make my shopping. I already have an idea about what to get for the people I have to give presents too.

For now, I have received my first gift.

I'm starting to read these series and I already have ordered internationally A Dance Of Dragons.

ANyway, I hope everyone is enjoying the pre-Holiday season. I will be on vacation on thrusday so... Resting time is almost here

The 500th

I haven't written a blog in some time. Not that I haven't had a lot to say or that my life is boring, right now. I was looking for something special to do on my 500th blog. The only thing I could come up is this that you are all about to read.

I remember when I first came to GameSpot and suscribe. I used my name to do it. No alias or user names. Just my name. October 8th, 2006. That's what it says there. But I never started to truly write blogs until one year later, when I got my XBOX 360. I had the chance to go around many of my past blog posts. I can't believe how much things have changed... For good and, unfortunatelly, for bad.

The main reason to write this blog is to let you know what I love about videogames and what they gave me during my lifetime. I can make this quick: Games are amazing. Just like that but there are some details that made games not only entertainment... They were part of my life.

The most productive thing I got from games was learning another language. Back in the day (NES, SNES, N64) it was almost impossible to think about a translated or subtitled game. SO we were pretty much in the need to learn english in order to fully enjoy a game. This was not always the case: Most people rather played games that didn't need a lot of english. Since I was a fan of RPG's and adventure games, I had to do it. Games were a way of practice.

Also, I love games because they are actually like watching a movie or reading a book. When we didn't have the huge graphics and cinematics that we do today, you had to imagine how some displays would look in real life. That was creativiy and imagination. Now, even if we can see it, we can't avoid to get immersive during some moments. I like to think about all the times I enjoyed finishing a game or get some nice surprises.

ANother thing I love about games is the people I've met thanks to it. When I was younger, a lot of my friends had their consoles and some times we got together just to play certain game someone bought. Now, it's even easier to make ffriends thanks to technology. And of course, it is cool to have friends to discuss not only about games, but everything else.

That's where GameSpot comes. I remember when I started to blog on this site. Not many people would comment but as long as I kept writing and commenting I got some friends and suddenly I was part of a very special group of people. Unfortunatelly, most of that people is gone from the site or barely visit it but we still keep in touch by other means (Facebook or even playing on XBOX Live). Among other people, I've met a lot of other special people that are still here which I appreciate since I certainly consider them my friends.

I am sure that everyone reading this blog is part of that group. It is always cool to realize that games put us together and that we can keep talking about other non-gaming related topics with full confidence. I really think that is one of the best things that GameSpot has given me during my five year tenure.

I've not been around as much as before since I am a busy man and I don't have many things to say recently, but you I am always wandering your blogs just to make sure everything is ok with you. I don't comment in every of them because I hate to put comments just because I HAVE TO. "That's cool, bro" "Congrats". I am trying to quit that.

So this 500th post is dedicated to everything great that gaming has brought to me, and on that you can include everyone who takes the time to read my blog, everyone who I consider a friend (I am not mentioning them because I am always afraid to miss someone, but I am pretty sure you know who you all are), and all those who are gone from the site, but are remembered... thanks for being here and hope you keep coming to this humble blog.

I will be around bashing about your selections for GOTY when it is not the same as mine, so I hope you get your Xmas preparations and shopping ready. I know I will...

Thanks for 500th blogs, GameSpot.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

I am pretty some of you will be busy this long weekend. I hope you can spend some quality time with your loved ones.

I assume the site will be quiet during this time, but remember you old buddy will be around (because we will be working)

Anyway, Enjoy dinner and football, have a nice time and see you on monday.

(If anyone needs me I will be wandering around on Cyrodill)
