Survival Is Our Only Goal

Havn't been on this site for a while. Havn't had a choice, really. My financial situation has been a rollercoaster ride from hell. Fortunately, a long overdue windfall came in, and I'm in the clear. At least until the next bill comes in. I shouldn't be struggling to pay my heating bill. That's not in line with the American Dream, goddamit. Winter is hard enough to live through without such difficulties.

Enough of that, though. I've been playing through all the episodes of Sam and Max that I missed out on. Good fun, all of them. Don't they have a complete collection of the comic somewhere? I've got to pick that up.

Some Good Games That I Played In 2007

I couldn't make a top 10 games of 2007 to save my life. Most of the games I play are old, or at least fairly not new as I can only afford a game with a 50 dollar price tag maybe once a year. Nevertheless, here are some fun games that I discovered back in wacky old 2007.

Ultima 7: I actually bought this back whenever the hell it came out. The damn game never worked, not once. It wasn't until last october that I finally stumbled upon a working version. Whaddya know, it was actually a good game.

The Longest Journey: I'm a sucker for an adventure game, and I'd long heard that the Longest Journey was a really stellar example of the genre. So when I saw that I could order a copy (direct from the publisher, I believe), I jumped at the chance. A couple of months later, It was available for download on Steam. What the hell, people. Great game, though.

Angbad: Ok, so it's a free rogue-like with almost non-existent graphics. So what? It's also an extremely entertaining and supremely frustrating game. Gaming for masochists, right here.

Portal: Hey, this one actually came out in 2007, didn't it? It's already had praise heaped all over it, so I'll just say that yes, it is fun. And funny. More games need a sense of humor.

Europa Universalis 3: This one might have come out in 2007. I'm not sure. A lot of fun to be had here, though. Any game that allows you to lead almost every country that existed between 1453 and 17-something is all right by me. Dammit, Armenia shall prevail!

That's about it, I suppose. I played a few more games than that in 2007, of course, but I'm too damn lazy to mention them.

I'm in Maya

So, my Sims kick continues unabated as I just picked up a copy of Sims 2 for Extra Cheap. I've been designing so many goddamned houses. What, you say that there's more to the game than just building awesome homes? You say that you're supposed to make people to live in those houses as well? Man, whatever! That's crazy talk.

Completely unrelated! Alfred Bester was a damn good writer.

FDR was nothin' but trouble.

I think my penchant for games like SimCity, Transport Tycoon and the like is beginning to take a toll on me. I've been considering a career in urban planning. I spent some time talking to a friend of mine about "sustainable cities". I'm designing modern parkways in my sleep. I woke up after dreaming about eating a giant marshmallow, and my sheets were covered in architecht's sketches! Also, my pillow was gone. Oh, oh god. This means nothing but trouble.

Woo! Party!

I just spent an hour working on a single railroad in Transport Tycoon. What am I doing with my life.* I completelyforgot that this website existed! What have I been doing with my life?

Nothing much, actually.

Current Party Level: 33%

*That railroad is going to be bringing in bundles of cash, man. So, uh... that's something.

Oh no it is a blog

Wikipedia's article on the cola wars is terrible. I mean, it is just godawful. Shape up, wikipedia.

How the hell am I going to write my master's thesis now?*

*I am not writing my thesis on the cola wars. I am not writing any thesis at all.

Now you're bloggin'

I'm not much for writing blogs. If I was, they'd mostly read things like "Chipped tooth. Man, where the **** did I chip my tooth at. What." And nobody wants that. I mean, I already have an offsite blog. It sometimes reads like that, and even I don't like it.

Anyway, I thought that, despite all that, I might want to use this space for some hard hitting and pithy commentary on the pop culture of today, style of thing. Real gonzo stlye commentary, hitting you ****ers right where it hurts. But probably not. Stay tuned, fictional audience. Stay tuned.

Apparently censoring is down, hereabouts. **** be crazy, man.
