No there's a chip inside the battery pack-- I tore one apart recently. Also there is a sensor that aligns to the copper (?) points in the center or the controller. I think market rechargables are the way to go anyways.
I have heard Sanyo Eneloops are good batteries as they claim to be rechargable a 1000 times AND they come precharged. MS basically is charging $10 for two NIMH batteries and a chip that allows it to charge through your usb.

Well, that's nothing new to the gaming community. Game-makers have been rehashing sequels for as long as they can (Resident Evil). Plus the cost of creating a game is now closing the gap with hollywood standards. We see how well received games like Oddworld or Rez are. What incentive does a company actually have when risks are so high?
I haven't played it on-line yet (no router as of this moment), but I wasn't an immediate convert. It's not a bad game though, it's a shooter, which isn't my favorite genre (probably not yours either). It's all about free choice! Pawn it or trade it with via Craigslist.
Oh definitely they have thought it through more than me-- that's what they do. There probably were many iterations and a lot market research before finally settling. PlayStation 2 and 3 are bland names it's much more like a software release than an actual evolution. I totally agree with the statement about Sega names-- the Genesis is a great name.
Although I generally like my 360 I have come to the conclusion that it's name is bland. "Xbox" was a poor choice although admittedly not near as bad as WonderSwan. Adding a 360 was about as inspired as adding "2" or "3".
My ideas are :Microsoft Phoenix or Microsoft Phantom.
