@sebb: How many new game pass subscribers do you think MS expects to gain from just Xbox and PC by putting COD on there? A couple million isn't gonna cut it when you're spending 70 billion.

MS has always tried to reach a much bigger audience beyond gamers. They tried it with Kinect, marketing Xone as a TV box that also plays games and now its Xcloud. Only question is, who are those billions of people who are too cheap to buy a console, yet willing to pay $180 a year for gp?

Telling yas, without Xcloud there would be no game pass. And if cloud gaming doesn't take of, MS might close down the whole thing.

@alex33x: Almost half the userbase is on playstation...

It lines up pretty well with Fortnite where playstation als accounts for almost half the revenue.

@simonthekid7: Does it really matter if Sony pays Activision or Microsoft for COD on playstation? In the end Sony still gets their share so for them it would make no difference.

@sebb: Because Microsoft is done with console wars and is playing the long game. They don't care about Xbox selling the most consoles, they just want to push the whole industry towards cloud gaming and reach billions through Xcloud. Google had the same idea with Stadia and MS said from the beginning, Google is their main competitor, not Sony or Nintendo. Only thing is that their predictions of cloud gaming seem to be way off. Instead of billions, MS has only 10m Xcloud users and Google is already packing it in with Stadia...

@simonthekid7: Exactly! The main reason why games like Apex Legends, Fortnite and Warzone are so populair is that they're a f2p multi platform game and the vast majority are playing those games on a ps4/5. Microsoft would be shooting themselves in the foot with a rocket launcher if they'd cut off the dominant platform.

Dunno why sony is so worried. Microsoft won't make COD exclusive anyway. It's not very populair on PC so they kinda need sony's installbase. As a xbox exclusive, cod would be dead in months.

Game pass is so overrated.. it's starting to get silly. I got game pass. Played Halo and Forza and downloaded like 50 games I'll likely never play. Truth is mst people don't care about mid tier games. They want great games and gladly pay full price for them.

@tjkraz: Because "nobody" is paying $15 a month for game pass. If you do, you're an idiot (no offense). Microsoft's been giving it away for 1 dollar since 2017 lol. If it were $15 a month, I wonder how many would still be subscribed. Another problem is that cloud gaming doesn't seem to be the golden goose Microsoft and Google thought it was. Game Pass got released on ios and android and it didn't move the needle. Especially when Microsoft's been talking about reaching billions of "gamers" through Xcloud.

@keiser69: I'm not sure. I mean putting it on gamepass will obviously make it a hard sell on ps5 for $70. At retail the game will probably flop now, and it makes Sony look bad in the process. If they were aware this would happen, it sure seems like a bad move from sony.
