Will PS3 ever get Metal Gear Solid Collection? Because if it wont, I am getting a PS2 for those games.

Just like I expected, PC gaming has two time more votes.

Dont be cheap. Get a new one. You will find a good deal online and im sure you will feel better knowing the chances of problems arising are slim.

iano-87

I can get a used one for 50$ and a new one for 100$. There arent that many games I want to play so I think the used one is a better choice.

get a used ps2 slim if you can. if you cant, just get a used ps2 fat, it will be still be pretty reliable . I've had mine since 2002 and it works with almost all of my games still. You shouldnt spend much more than $40 for the console.

and in reference to the guy above saying his ps2 doesnt work with some CD games, i have that same problem. for those of you that dont know, some old ps2 games were on CDROM, not DVDROM. The CD-ROM games are purple on the back, instead of silver. The ps2 sometimes has trouble reading older cdrom games after the laser gets worn out i suppose. I can get most of them to work by doing things like puting the ps2 on its back then turning it on , and it just takes a few tries to get games like Virtua Fighter 4 or Twisted Metal Black to play. I've never had a problem getting newer games like God of War or Ace Combat 5 to work.

edit: and for the record, I'm very angry at Sony for removing the Backwards compatible from the ps3. why would they think it is a good idea to sell a ps3 that can play ps1 games but not ps2 games? dumb. and those ps3s are hard to find now and/or expensive.

Talldude80

I am thinking about playing Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. Are they on CD or DVD?

The PS2 is actually pretty durable, but you should try getting a new one. It'll last you many years without any problems.

M3tr4nk0

Well I can get a used one 2 times cheaper and there are only a few games I want to play.

Usually they are reliable, but most fat ps2 have trouble running games that are on CD's (blue-back) and some thin ps2's as wellmemphishigh

I am not thinking about playing anything on CDs, only PS2 games.

I am thinking about getting a used PS2. How reliable is it, if it is a few years old? Will it stay alive for a lot of time?

i like how i don't have to worry if my new game is going to work when i buy one for a console. you mention backward compatibility but ive been trying for years to get my old copy of transport tycoon to run on my most recent laptop without various error messages flashing up.

xbox 360 is fully backwards compatible with xbox games

early ps3s were fully backwards compatible with ps2 and ps1 titles

wii is fully backwards compatible with gamecube titles

so to use backwards compatibility as a point to prove pc's superiority really is wrong.

i prefer a controller in my hand than a mouse and keyboard.

having said that there are certain games that benefit from the many keys on a keyboard like strategy and sandbox games. which is why there aren't as many of these on consoles.

but i don't like those games and i'm not technologically minded which is why i enjoy consoles.

neither is better than the other and it's completely up to the consumer to decide on which they prefer

Hatiko

Consoles are backward compatible for only one generation but PC is for all generations. You can also us a controller on PC.

PS1 and PS2 = 2 Generations not 1.

Forgot about that. But thats only PS3 and only older models. Still PC is backward compatible for more then 2 generations.

as i said, i can;t get old pc games working on my most recent laptop. i don't habe the knowledge of how to do it. which is my biggest reason on why i prefer consoles. you don't have to know what you're doing to enjoy it. you just plug it in and play. yes, pc gaming is cheaper than console gaming but only if you know where to get the cheapest components for your pc. if you go into a store and pick up a pc capable of playing the most recent games on the highest settings you'll definately pay more than a console. and wouldn't replacing a keyboard and mouse with a contoller kind of make the *awesomeness* of k&b?

Yes if you dont have the knowledge PCgaming can give you a lot of problems. But that doesnt mean PC isnt backward compatible. Some games are better with keyboard and mouse, some are with a controller. On PC you can choose, on consoles you cant.
