A DMZ is not a bad thing, the only time it is bad is when you take your IP address from your ISP and put it as that. Otherwise the purpose of a DMZ is that the device that is configured to run on it will bypass the routers firewall. On a company standpoint a DMZ will be the location of such things as the Web Server.
Putting your PS3 on a DMZ will not hurt it, it will not hurt your network.

In other words, no screwing round... you put your PS3 in DMZ and then its configured. No latency issues from the firewall, and no port issues.
