Sadly, at the end of the day Nintendo is not embracing online features as well. Japanese games tend to be afraid of internet multiplayer features and still think only children play games. Why do you think all their games are so childish and aim only for the 10 and under demographic?
I am not saying they suck because those games are fun but at the end of the day it feels like Nintendo never grew up and still wants to fool us into thinking games are magical dolls with whimsical stories and fairy tales.
@Scarab83 @Rayzakk Scarable83, he only went over budget because he expanded his game by a few magnitudes. He could have done it for $400k but that wasn't the game that he decided he wanted to build with OTHER people's money.
If you're rich, happy, and in love with Tim then that's fine. It's your right. But hopefully you understand why poorer people who don't worship Tim is mad that he has failed.
@stev69 I think that is the fundamental thing that cannot change about Kickstarter: risk. Kickstarter themselves keep reminding us that a donation does not guarantee anything at all.
Kickstarer will always be run by trust, and if you break that trust, the people will never believe in you agani. So that is why I am extra mad that Tim was smart enough to get us to fund ANOTHER one of his doomed-to-fail games funded by Kickstarter before he announced this Broken Age fiasco. He must have known months ago that Broken Age cannot be made in time and on budget but yet he still announced a second Kickstarter.
@stev69 If Tim did not expand his features and goals crazily and kept his modest and humble project limit but still ran out of money due to development complications, then maybe we would all be more understanding about this situation and sympathize with him.
But that is not the case. He consciously made a decision to disregard the humble idea that Kickstarter backers supported with their personal money and went for his own dream game features. This is insulting and a breach of trust.
This is not a misfortune, but a greedy and short-sighted mistake that Tim does not regret doing at all and sounds like he would do it again if he could.
@MonkeyKinght98 "that didn’t stop me from getting excited and designing a game so big that it would need even more money." - Tim
Yep. An over budget of millions and a promise to fans did NOT stop Tim from making a game so big that he needs more money. Timmy don't care, he wants his game one way or another. And he wants it NOW! More money please.
@kukumav @Scarab83 @shadowkratos774 Some people have a "my hero can't do any wrong" mentality. That's why no one would admit that they voted for a crappy president, haha. They would always claim that was the best president ever.
I think people don't like admitting they admired Tim and believe in him because they would feel like a fool if they did so.
I believe in him before, and I don't believe in him now. Nothing foolish about this. People let you down, and Tim let us all down.
@MAD_AI Uh, would you call getting 8 times more than their budget goal, but then releasing HALF a game a success?
Steam Early Access is a form of Kickstarter, but for games that are in development. So, Tim is resorting to another form of crowdsourced funding to continue his expensive game.
@Scarab83 @xavor01 But same level of incompetence from the studio. They can both miss their deadlines and budgets at staggered times. The other delay will come later because they do not know about time and cost management.
@King9999 True, but he is announcing his failure to finish the game. What if no one buys this game on Steam Early Access in protest? How will he finish Part 2 then? The answer is he cannot finish the game then.
Therefore, he is announcing that he has failed and broken his commitment and responsibility to all his Kickstarter backers to finish this project.
