Seems to be mixed opinions...

Can somebody give me a conclusive answer, with evidence if possible.

What about the gaming life i should be able to get out of it? How well SHOULD it run most games of today and how long til games of the future will require me to purchase something new.

Ok, heres the deal.

Building a new computer.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.0ghz) daytona_178

Wow information overload!

No need for the rudeness... It obviously cut off the rest..

I'll try again.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (3.0ghz)

MB: Gigabyte GA G31M-S2L

RAM: 4GBDual Channel DDRII-800 RAM

HDD: Samsung 250GSATAII

GPU: Gigabyte ATI HD4850 (heard great things about this)

Case: ATX Tower Case with 500W ATX PSU

The setup is pretty much all set in stone so i dont really need any suggestions on anything except:

- Should i get the E8400 (3.0ghz) Duo or get the Q6600 (2.4ghz) Quad instead? Im not sure if this is a real noob question but i dont know whether THAT Quad or THAT Duo would be more worth it (please dont suggest any other CPU's besides those two, they are the only 2 i have available to choose from in my situation)

- Also, How is that setup going to perform as a budget gaming system for the next few years?

Thanks alot.

Yeah, i will only be running it at max 1280 x 1024.

If this changes the speed at which games will run, then inform me.

I just want to be sure im getting bang for my buck.

i actually dont have that information as of yet..

but im not sure if i will want to OC it just yet, as i said, i have a VERY tight budget and can just afford the PC and graphics card, let alone extras such as a new case/power supply.

without any OCing, and assuming the RAM is say, 800mhz or whateva, is it still an OK setup?

I'm looking at purchasing this pre-built setup:

- Intel Core2 Duo E7200 (2.53ghz)

- 4GB RAM

- 500GB HDD

- Windows XP Pro installed

I'm also buying a graphics card to go with it:

- Gigabyte ATI HD4850 512mb, DDR3, PCI-E

I know it may not be the greatest gaming setup ever, but i only have a small budget and i would just like to know:

1) whether it would play something such as World of Warcraft on decent video settings without much trouble.

2) whether it will play most games comfortably on medium/low video settings.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah.

I have mates who have complained about similar problems with Vista.

Hence why the setup has Windows XP Pro pre-installed.

Anyone else got any thoughts?
