It's only because I have tried my hand and 3D character modeling and animation (with poor results) that I recognize how much you've accomplished in a short span of time and how powerful a tool Source Filmmaker really is. Not too long ago, such a tool could have been sold for hundreds or thousands of dollars...and now Steam is giving it away for free. Awesome stuff.

@Phantom5800 I wish I had a PSOne game handy to test what you're telling me, but all other indication I see online are that it should work, so thanks for that info.

Agree completely on the PS2 game comment, but we both know that doesn't sound nearly as profitable for Sony as selling you the same game twice, not to mention the potential PS2 sales from people who want to continue using their last-gen discs.

Sony has some fantastic franchises to draw from, so I suspect that they'll have some dynamite collections in the near future. But I'm still bothered by two things:

1. The Ratchet and Clank Collection doesn't include *all* the PS2 games in the series. It's like they decided that three is enough and quit.

2. Sony pretended that backwards compatibility for the PS3 was just too expensive to do with hardware and too complex to do with software, so they took it out altogether. Yet they've made a cottage industry out of re-selling classic titles that are either emulated PSOne Classics or PS2 games remastered in HD.

I suppose it's too much work to remaster PSOne games in HD, so they'll probably continue to be run via emulation...the same emulation that's too hard to get working on our disc-based library.

PS -- As an aside, I think Nintendo and Sony (and Microsoft, but their library isn't nearly as deep) charge too much for their classic games. In an era of $2.99 apps, it seems kinda outrageous to charge $6 - $10 for a 15- to 25-year-old game.

I actually heard that Jay-Z is helping to optimize the defensive AI routines by rewriting some low-level C++ functions in pure assembly language. He's apparently far more talented than many people realize.

As this game was clearly, um, "inspired" by the Super Smash Bros. games, it is most interesting to me that they are creating a cross-platform aspect of it between their home console (PS3) and handheld (PSVita). Nintendo says they'll do the same with their next SSB game (i.e. have interoperability between the Wii U version and the 3DS version).

Here's my question: Which pairing will work better? <PS3 + Vita> or <Wii U + 3DS>?

I suspect that EA doesn't believe it will win this case, but wants to fire off a warning shot to any smaller players that might consider entering their established territory.

TO ALL COMMENTERS: Anybody who claims that the Wii U will have graphics capability similar to a high-end PC has apparently never played games on a high-end PC.

The nVidia GTX 690 moves polygons like nothing I've ever seen, but it costs about $1,000. (That's just the card, not the entire computer.) You mean to tell me that Nintendo has figured out how to get that sort of performance in a small console that will likely cost about $250 to $300? C'mon...

Again I refer you to this article:http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/batman-arkham-city-graphics-breakdown-and-performance-guide/#1

Keep in mind that this was written about a two-year-old videogame using last year's video cards. The difference between 2012 video cards and current-gen consoles is even more stark.

PS -- Please note that I'm not dissing anybody's console. I love console gaming. But comparing the two from a pure technology standpoint is like comparing a 747 to an F-15.

I suspect there are many others in the industry that consider this a statement of truth but aren't willing to admit as much. Unfortunately, principles and pragmatism are easily sacrificed on the altar of profits when there's money to be made or you're trying to keep your company afloat.

@Bozanimal That is a truly sad, compelling article. :-(
