The free and the paid version are vastly different games. I think Notch really needs to hide it or make it abundantly clear it's not related to the beta.

I've done it multiple times.

Counter-Strike Source played it the most before steam put in the timer. If I were to guess I'd say it would be somewhere around 1500-2000 hours.
