The Legend of Bagger Vance: One of My Favorite Movies

The Legend of Bagger Vance, Directed by Robert Redford,is a great movie with awesome actors portraying a realistic, powerful story.

Some of the actors were: Matt Damon, Will Smith, and Charlise Theron

This whole story, played through the eyes of a dying old man reminiscing on his childhood, is about a a young boy named Hardy Greaves. The story takes place during the late 1920's, during the beginning of the Great Depression. Hardy Greaves is a devout fan of the game of golf, and especially looks up to Ranolph Junah (Damon), a hometown hero who is devestated during World War 1, and goes into hiding. When Ms. Adele Invergordon(Theron) decides to hold an exhibition match with the greatest golfers of all time: Bobby Jones, and Walter Hagen. With the city of Savannah urging, Junah is also included in the match.

With some persuasion by a travelling caddy, Bagger Vance, Junah finally agrees to play in the tourney, with Hardy Greaves as his other caddy. So the match is a 72-hole exhibition match on Invergordon'sstruggling country club, Crewe Island. Junah sarts off 12 strokes down, but with special advice and help from brilliant Mr. BaggerVance (Smith), Junah ends up tying Hagen and Jones.

THis is one of my favorite movie for severalreasons:

1. The setting was awesome and believable.

2. The story was compelling and inspiring.

3. The actors did a terrific job.

If anyone else has seen this movie made in 2000, I encourage you to post on this thread. If you haven't I highly recommend you see it. This movie is not well-known, but is it brilliant. :D

New Emblem - Tagger King

I dont know How I got it, but I got it. After reading the emblem guide in the Embems Union, it said the Tagger King Emblem was awarded when you make 1000 different tags. I only have 800. Oh well, I guess it was incorrect, or Gamespot just likes me better. So yay, I have the highest emblem possible for tagging. :D

Tagger King

My Successful Recruting Guide

I have posted this guide on other unions that have requested this, and its methods are being applied to our union, I just want to show it on my blog. Its methods are being applied to GAMEPOTZ FINEST, The Club Whatever Union, Wii Will Rock You, The United Movies Union, The Prince of Persia Clan, and the Jedi Council.

My Newest most Effective form of Recruitment: Forum Recruitment:

This is the newest recruiting method I devised, and it makes recruiting more efficient. (You invite less, and get more response.):

1. Open 2 tabs. One set to the Admin tab of this union, and another one set to a forum of another union (an active union that has posts less than a day old.)

2. Going down the list of threads, copy and paste the usernames under the column "Most Recent Post" For the first 3 pages of the forum. (Feel free to skip usernames you've already invited, or stickeyed threads with its last post dated in 2006.)

3. After inviting the first 3 pages, click "Invite Members"

*This method is more efficient because it will focus on people who have a. Been on gamespot very recently, b. People who are interested in unions, and c. People who post a lot in unions. This will be an easy, yet extremely effective method of recruitment.

It takes half the time or less to recruit this way, but the recruits will come in just as fast, and they will; be more active.

My*(2nd) Most Effective Form of Recruitment: Other Union Recruitment.

This is my tried and true method that gained so many members at Club Whatever. It may be a bit time consuming, but it can be extremely effective in gaining members.

1. Open 2 tabs or windows on your browser. (Tabs are easier if you have them.

2. Set one tab to the 'Admin' section on this union, and scroll down to the invite tool.

3. set the other tab to another union's 'members' tab. You can find unions to recruit by searching the gamespot Union Directory, or you can use a union you are already a member of. When selecting a union to recruit, the ideal ones should have formed in 2007, have 20-70 members. The union selected should be about your union's topic.

4. Going down the list, invite every person in this union. The way I do it is this:

a. If the name has no hyphens or underscores, just double click just to the left of the username to highlight it. (Clicking on it will send you to that member's homepage.) If the name has hyphens or underscores, manually click and drag across the name to highlight it.

b. Once highlighted, press CTRL+C

c. In the other tab, click in the box to type invite names, and press CTRL+V.

d. Repeat for all members of the union.

5. After all members have been invited, press 'Invite Members' I guarantee that this method will work to get recruits. It will take time to get speed down in inviting the users in other unions, but once you get it down, you can have the power to invite 100 people per day.

ONCE AGAIN! THIS METHOD WORKS!

BTW: You can also apply this method to boards of videogames.

Secondary Recruitment Options:

1. Manage your officers. Having officers that are active in the union is critical to a union's success. If they're not, demote them.

2. Increase the length of your invite list. At club whatever, its 78 pages. You can do this in many ways. First of all, you can invite your friends, which I see people doing, which is good. You can also use my recruiting method outlines in the first post. Whatever it takes, make the list longer. The more people with invites, the more people with the potential to join. You could also send telegrams encouraging people to invite their friends, or use my method.

3. Apply some tags. Tags will put your union into the search engine when users type in specific words or phrases. The more tags the better. For example, your union has kind of an exotic spelling, but you could separate the words, and try simplifying the tags, so they're more likely to be typed in.

4. Start a topic in the Gamespot Union Recruitment Forum. After that, consistently post on it so it stays on the first page. Just the something about the union. The mods call this bumping, but if you talk about the union, they won't bother with it. EDIT: I actually got nailed for bumping for talking about the union, but only because I was the only one. You should get a rotation going on who's going to bump the thread.

5. Affiliate yourself with other unions. A lot of unions have an affiliates thread. Just request them to affiliate your union with them. You've already done it with Club Whatever, but my motto with recruiting is "THE MORE, THE BETTER!"

6. If you've got sig tags with the union name on them, encourage your members to use them in their sigs. Also, encourage people to link their tag to their union. People are more likely to visit the union if it's convenient for them.

If you have any questions on anything in this thread, PM me at theeman2000.

My Recruiting Mottos:

"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH."

"THE MORE THE BETTER."

RECRUITING PRIORITIES:

Basically, I'd encourage you to do all of these union recruitment ideas, but if you don't here's how I'd rank them in importance:

1. Invitations (my method)

2. Officer Control

3. Union Recruitment Forum topic.

4. Tags

5. Sig tags

So there you have it, good luck to your union, and I hope it flourishes.

And if you have any questions, PM me at theeman2000.

Here is another set of Union Efficiency tips created by ThumbsUpMaster

1.) Associate with Popular Games
if your union is called The Halo Union or The Super Smash Bros. Union then you'll have no problem getting profile views and new members. But if your union is something like The First Person Shooters Union, then associate your union with popular games rather than the games you like favor most. Upcoming FPS's like Halo 3, Crysis, Haze, and Bioshock (all popular FPS's) will give your union more views and possibly new members. Also, be more specific with your union. It may seem like a good idea to name your union The Halo and Super Smash Bros Union but discussion/members will be divided and it won't get as much posts.

2.) Advertise Smart
Don't make advertising your union tedious. Use what your good at or what your hobby (computer wise) is. If you draw well, then draw an advertisement for your union and upload the picture to DeviantART. If you like to create videos,
then create a Video Advert (Example: GTA Legends Recruitment Video GameSpot / YouTube). If Sentinels vision comes true and unions will be as big as GameSpy's Planet sites, then this is our chance to start early by exposing our union to other sites that share and common interest in our hobbies and/or what we're good at. And this may be boring but sending Union Telegrams will help out with your union activity.

3.) Create a Union Chain
In other words, affiliate with other unions. The more we affiliate, the more we expand the community. Not posting in one of your newly affiliated unions will prove your just affiliating for new members. That doesn't always work. Let's say The Mario Union affiliates with The Nintendo Union. If the Mario Union expects to get members of the
Nintendo Union to join their union by not contributing to The Nintendo Union, then they're wrong. Members of the Mario Union must post at the Nintendo Union. That's why they're called affiliates. Care about your affiliated unions. Afterwards, check out the Nintendo Union's affiliates and post there. Chances are, members with a similar liking of Mario will click the link in your sig and join your union. It's a never ending Union Chain. Use it wisely.

4.) Don't Just Be Another Union Board
Don't just create a union, create a few topics, and hope people will start posting. Be creative. Try thinking of features that will make members come back for more. Game guides, in-game challenges, trivia games, and character battles might help.

5.) News and Media
Check game sites for news other than GameSpot. GameSpot is usually late on news. Try going to websites like Kotaku, IGN, or various fan sites that associate with the video-game series your union is associated with. Create media archives like Music Archives (don't use copyrighted material), Video Archives, and Picture Archives.

6.) Faster Links
Defeat the Admin Page's Long Load Time! Create bookmarks for the following links: General Administration, Permissions, and Telegram. If you have a thread that needs constant updating, bookmark that under edit message.

7.) Cleaner Boards
before we get multiple boards (here's hoping we do) take advantage of that one small union board. Sticky important threads like general discussions of a particular game, your union Introduction Thread (if it's not linked anywhere else), and popular topics that get new posts frequently (or hot topics). Try to prevent floods of multiple topics. If your union gets bombarded with what's your favorite...and what's the best... topics, then create an Official Favorites Topic and lock all other threads with favorite or best in the title.

8.) Don't Nag
Don't force members to post. If no one is posting, try doing what I mentioned above. But above all, just have fun. This is just a website so sit back; clear your mind, and relaaaaaaaaaax.

If a moderator sees any grammatical/spelling errors, feel free to edit.

Bonus Tip for this Union:

Since this is my union, I have yet another inviting method tht you can use while just surfing gamespot:

1. Open 2 tabs, one set to the admin tab of this union, and the other one:

a. go to www.gamespot.com (homepage)

b. click on the forums button on the top bar of the site.

2. Invite the 9 users in the "Returning users" area in the far right hand side, it should be a box.

3. Invite the 9 members in the box.

4. Check back and invite again in 15 minutes (it will refresh with new users)

New Emblem - Tagger Leader

Tagger LeaderI like this emblem because i dont see very many other people with it. my ultimate goal is to become a tagger king (1000 different tags) someday. So I am not done tagging. I will continue to put my stuff in the search engines, and make my stuff easier to find. I love tags. :D

New Emblem, New Level, and Great Press Conference

WOW, what a night. I watched the E3 microsoft press conference for 1 hr 3 min, which was apparently enough to get the emblem. I thought the press conference was awesome. I liked a lot of the games that were shown.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare demo looked cool because of the waythe snipers were getting down and avoiding people at times and shooting people at other times, and that's exactly what a sniper does. That game looked awesome, and it was the first time I've heard a soldier with a scotch accent.

I was also interested in all the new content that was coming to the Xbox Live arcade. There had to be at least 20 new games, and a lot of new movies. It is putting the Xbox 360 above the rest by the way Microsoft is making it into a multimedia player, not just a game console.

Assassins Creed took me by storm at the Press Conference. I liked how the crowd got so involved in this game, and how interactive the enviornment is. Most fighting games dont even bother with civilians, but Assassins Creed had a lot of them in there. I also liked the problem solving aspect of it. Throwing the guard off the building to create a diversion to pass through and other things. The fight scenes were also incredible. The way countering moves responded to the animations of the AI was excellant, and the camera angles were good. Lastly, I enjoyed the chase scene, and how smart the AI was by getting the crowd in your way and by creating traps and what not. Before the press conference, I didn't know what Assassins Creed was about. Now, its near the top of my wishlist.

PGR4 looked ok, with the bikes and the cars, and all the weather effects, but I just didn't feel it.

Madden 08 looked pretty cool, and having Reggie Bush in your press conference makes everything better.

I'm not a fan of horror/zombie games, so Resident Evil 5 didn't get my attention.

I also liked how Gears of War on Windows looked. That boss fight demo looked awesome, and the interface with the live system was just like the xbox live interface. I like how so many games are also adopting the Windows Live system, and It would be cool to have a windows live gamertag, or something like that in the future.

Lastly, Halo 3, which was already well-known, had 2 great new trailers that I thoroughly enjoyed, especially the second one that ended the press conference.

Overall, the press conference was fun to watch, and now I have a good idea for what games I want coming into this holiday season

I also got a new level today, level 14, ring king. It makes me feel like sonic because he picks up rings and stuff.
