Ah... I remember that.... :) Worst lag I ever experienced was Patch 2.0 in WoW, or the launch of BC. I actually think it was 2.0. Every realm except 2 were down at first, and damn - I bet over a coupel million peopel tried to get on each server. The startign zones were horrendous! Finally after a few hours, my realm (Staghelm) got back up and rolling, and I hopped on. I couldn't see my character because IF was packed to the brim, but I managed to mount up and make my way blindly to the trainer and try out some of my new talents. It was pretty fun being on vent with some friends at the time, and just screwing around (GMs were absent :D ). Launch of the Burning Crusade was pretty bad if you wanted to get into the new content. Servers kept crashing, and the lag was horrible in hellfire for a good 4 days.
