The right to freedom of speech does not work quite in the same way in the UK as it does in the US, which is where the discrepancy may lie. However, the same principle applies. Word DO have power. We cannot escape from it. We may not like it, but we just have to get over it. People resp[ond to offensive words the world over NOW. This is how it is. This is what happens in everyday life NOW. We have to live in the now, deal with it and work within this society with the many differet cultures, beliefs and persepctives that the combination of peoples have. Sulking about it doesn't get anyone nowhere.
Of course offensive words are in the eye of the beholder, but some words at least in this country are termed as generally offensive. I write reports for people who commit offense and then go before the court. Although there is not a specific crime that relates specifically to offensive words, its the combination of both behvaiour and the manner in which the words are said that contribute to the offense.
For example, a Public Order offence may only become apparant when someone is swearing and being offensive to a group of people. He is drunk. Neither of these is an offence in itself (Being drunk or swearing) but the combination constitiues an offence. Now that is a fact, not an opinion, not secomd hand, but one of many individuals who I personally see with similar offences.
Now. In respect to Political correctness. What that is, is an attempt to balance injustices that people experience now due to inequalities. That's a different issue and not related to the OP question, but if you have a problem with that, that's something you need to get over with and just get on with your life.

well i see the reason for the discrepancy as far as laws in two countries. but as for me getting over the political correct thing? wont ever happen. im an american and i refuse to let that kind of crap slide. our country is built on the freedom of expression and the day that right is gone is the day this country is destroyed. they are already infringing too much.
for example, if someone gets in a fight, there is such and such as a standard penalty. but if you use a racist comment, even if the person had no premeditation of engaging in the fight with the other person based on race, it is somehow a hate crime. this is wrong. this is not what the law was intended to do. it was intended to protect people from being saught out because of their race and attacked. it just goes too far. and its getting worse.
and yes we have gone far far off the OPs topic. his issue relates to gaming and as the servers are privately run, those in charge of running them have the right to deem what is and is not allowed. i still think the solution is, as mentioned before, a global ignore list.
we could start one on here and have it stickied.. then evri 20 posts someone updates it with all the names in one list?

and yes it is getting bad with being PC.. i reckon there is as much racism against white ppl now, i'm not saying it's wrong or that whites are superior, well simply because that argumet would b a lie ether way it's thrown.. but it shows that it isn't allways one side dishing out prejudice
and mebby ppl will end up on the list that don't deserve too? idk..
