The more I think about it, the more I think Sony should just include this with every PSVR2 purchase. They're already getting negative press about the price, and this would (at least in some way) feel like knocking $50 off the price. Since this is a 1st party game, they wouldn't have to pay anyone else to include the game. Most importantly, while PSVR1 had the great Astrobots intro to the headset, there really isn't anything like that for PSVR2 (why they didn't update the PS5 Astrobots game to VR is a mystery). This would serve as an amazing intro to VR for users that are new to it.

It's not too late - Sony could just give everyone the game. Since it requires PSVR2 hardware, it might even spur people who don't own the hardware to decide to pick it up. If they also just gave everyone who purchased the game or the bundle a $50 PS Store credit, that would encourage more digital sales and most likely a lot of that credit would be used on PSVR2 games, so everyone would win.

I bought it, because I want developers to know there's an install base out there and I believe the games will come. I also love VR and own a Quest 2, but have been pretty disappointed with the lack of fun games on PCVR (aside from Half Life Alyx, which is absolutely the kind of game I want to play). What I'm most excited about is Gran Turismo 7 and RE:Village, since they are both stand-alone games AND have a full VR experience. Also very much looking forward to Wingman.

Honestly, I think there's an opportunity for games to either sell the VR content as a $10 DLC or to make the VR content only available in the "Deluxe" versions of their games. Devs/Publishers are trying to find a way to get gamers to be willing to pay $70-$80 at launch, and Sony is of course trying to get people to buy the Playstation version of 3rd party titles like Hogwarts Legacy. At least for me, including VR would make getting the PS version a no-brainer.

I'm glad this game is being discussed. I DID buy it at launch and it was definitely ahead of it's time for the PS4 hardware it was limited by. The PS4-Pro was much better, but still just reached a stable 30fps and 4k checkerboard (which I've heard was 1080p upscaled but if it was they did a fine job of it!). In any case, the game was good but not great and the load times were BRUTAL, so I set it aside without finishing it. AND THEN I GOT MY PS5 and heard this game got a 60fps full 4k bump. I tried it and it was night and day different. Now I'm much further in the game than I ever got when I first bought it and the silky smooth FPS and jaw-dropping graphics have kept me involved like this was a brand-new game.

I think what we're dealing with here is similar to the problem with Cyberpunk. Some games are just too much for the current generation hardware, and I think this was one of those times. I hope now that the PS5 is out, Sony will make more games like Days Gone. Personally, I'm kind of sick of sequels - they are overdone and I'd rather see developers make new stories and characters. Right now we're stuck in a rut like Bungie... They got sick of making Halo game after Halo game so they bought their independence from Microsoft only to now be making Destiny game after Destiny game. Publishers like that model, heck the MOVIE industry is doing the same thing, and for some things (Drake's Fortune, The Last of Us, etc.) it definitely makes sense, but in the case of Days Gone, since it received mixed reviews and none of the characters were that memorable, recasting the idea with a new generation of hardware and all new characters in the same WORLD as Days Gone but maybe a different region altogether (maybe China... I could definitely get into zombie pandas... Or Australia with zombie crocodiles and kangaroo?...)

Looks weird but I'll reserve final judgment until the first couple of episodes. It's basically free for me since Disney will have my subscription as long as they keep making more Star Wars shows like the Mandalorian.

Honestly, there shouldn't even be a discussion about ordering these systems at Walmart or any other retailer. If demand is this hot, there should just be orders at Microsoft and Sony's sites with an estimated delivery date. The same way Apple, Dell, and other manufacturers have done forever. You'd never see Apple prioritize a shipment to Walmart or BestBuy if they could still sell a unit at full price directly, and Microsoft and Sony won't always be able to take care of the initial sales rush. Just show us on your site, "orders now are expected to deliver on Dec xx" and authorize payment at the point of order but don't charge the card until the order ships.

It may not have affected the fact that they didn’t have enough units, but it sure affected whether or not I would buy one. There was no compelling reason for me to buy a Series X this year once I found out Halo was delayed. So I bought a PS5. Now that I HAVE the PS5, I’ve been won over to the adaptive triggers on the controller. That surprisingly means I’m more likely to buy a game for the PS5 than for the XBox, at least until Halo Infinite does come out, at which point I might just play it on PC. If MS only cares about Game Pass, that’s still an AMAZING deal - but they need Series S/X exclusives if they want to compete in overall sales beyond launch. I suspect the Bethesda games will all be exclusive. That’s what Sony would do.

That's disappointing to say the least, especially since I ordered a PS5 but was unable to find an XBSX (at least so far...). I'm afraid this might come down to DirectX, which developers can take advantage of with XBox systems, but Playstation hardware uses OpenGL - both are great, but OpenGL is a little more taxing on hardware, and probably isn't as simple as just rebuilding with PS5 like this probably was for the XBSX version. After all, Microsoft is literally in the business of making development tools that can run on all kinds of hardware - aside from the Velocity enhancements, developers could just build their XBox games the same way they would their PC games.

I have NO doubt that EA could make a PS5 build that would be capable of 60fps 4k or even 120fps 4k, but probably with a lot of recoding to their Frostbite 3 game engine, not just be rebuilding with a different optimization target. This is Microsoft's big ace up their sleeve - ever since the XBox One, these are basically just x64 computers running Windows 10.

I know I'm in the minority here but I'm 100% done with discs and I'm never looking back. I already went all-digital with my PS4 and XB1X libraries, so the drives on both of them just sat unused. This let me (among other things) put another PS4 in my bedroom and move back and forth between my living room and bedroom without having to worry about which system had the disc in it. My movies are all digital, my music is all digital, my games are all digital and my saves are in the cloud as much as I can (looking at you, Nintendo!). Is there a risk that someday the companies will go away and retire their support for my digital downloads? I guess so, but by then I'll have moved on to other games. Personally I'm not playing Dig Dug and Galaxian any more - they were fun but I'd rather be playing God of War and Halo MCC than old 2D games...

I wish Microsoft had done something similar with the XBox Series S - drop the disc drive and lower the HD size to 512, but keep the CPU/GPU even if it meant taking a hit on each unit to get that $299 price point... I reserved my digital PS5 and if I can find one, I'll get the XBSX because there's no option to get one without the $50ish dust slot I'll never use.

@memrie: Nintendo is worth about $78b so that would be 10x the size of this (but imagine the exclusives!). More likely I could see Microsoft acquiring EA for about $40b, which would get them all the Star Wars rights, the Sims and Madden. Maybe they could even negotiate $5b off because they'd have to get Anthem too...

Interestingly, you know what else they could buy for $78b? Sony.

Unless MS is planning on getting out of the console hardware business altogether and just handing it to Sony and Nintendo (like Sega did many years ago), they would be crazy to not make all these games exclusive as fast as possible. They would be crazy to, for example, make Halo, Gears or Forza for PS5. Those franchises are the only ones that sell XBox units right now and compared to Sony's lineup of exclusives, XBox exclusives are pitiful.

I know they ultimately want GamePass/xCloud to be the console of the future but it won't happen in this generation, and if they want to sell more XBox consoles relative to Sony in this generation, they needed more exclusives and this was a very expensive but effective way to get there without spending the years Sony did building up those studios. Microsoft could actually afford to not make a dime on this investment - they make or lose 7.5 billion in market cap every time their stock goes up or down $1 (It's trading at $200 a share right now and fluxuates a few dollars every few days).

Microsoft needs to sell a ton of next gen XBox units so they don't lose another console generation. It won't really matter if they're Series X or Series S. They have been embarrassed by Sony this generation and it's for exactly one reason - exclusives.

I'd love to see The Last of Us 2, Mario, God of War, Zelda and the Drake games on XBox but that's just not the console world. I think the future is that Nintendo has Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing and Metroid, Sony has SpiderMan, God of War, The Last of Us (and anything else Naughty Dog and Insomnia put out), Microsoft has Halo, Forza, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Quake. I think everyone's just wishful thinking on the cross-platform but I hope I'm wrong.
