Because its not unimpressive to a lot of people? Metroid is all about exploration and a sense of natural progression, its not everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't mean its bad or overrated its just not for you. Metroid games are FAR from cryptic btw, you can always find a way around or explore some new areas that will lead to another new area with more items and so on and so forth.

I completed Super Metroid without any FAQ's whatsoever, if it really was that cryptic i would be the first guy look for an FAQ, i'm the guy who gets stuck on Adventure game puzzles! i'm not exactly the guy who can tackle cryptic games.

Actually, there was NO reason to reboot the TR series! Underworld was very good game, old TR games are what i'd call "Outdated" with horrible camera angles and controls! TR games on ps2 fixed them and made them finally playable, the new TR reboot is an uncharted clone which is nothing more than your run of the mill cinematic third person shooter.

They really are THAT identical to LoZ, so it begs question if these 2 games are ARPG's then why isn't LoZ? there are only 2 answers to this, either they both are not ARPG's or LoZ is an ARPG.

But you have to understand that genres often overlap with each other, old Resident evil games are way more like the traditional "adventure" games than LoZ and its still considered belonging a distinct genre of its own despite being a bootleg Alone in the Dark, which was just a 3d adventure game. So i fail to see, why the progenitor of ARPG's like Dark cloud and Ys isn't an ARPG itself. And just like you said Stats&Weapon Classes also isn't an essential part of what makes an RPG an RPG, so it doesn't matter if LoZ doesn't have them.

What? LoZ has an open world to explore, its not exactly point A to point B like Mario. Japanese&Western RPG's are completely different so its erroneous to even compare them. As i see it, JRPG's like Ys series and Dark Cloud borrow heavily from LoZ to the point of almost being like unofficial sequels to LoZ, its really hilarious that people refuse to consider LoZ as an RPG when it arguably is. WRPG's are more about choices, character customisation and decisions that effect the story, JRPG's on the other hand are much more story&exploration oriented.

@jumpaction: That's odd, LOZ is what popularised ARPG's in the first place. Ys Series plays almost like the old 2d Zelda games, except its faster paced and its classified as an ARPG ever since its inception. Both are story driven games with dungeon crawling, gathering new equipments with open world,side quests and puzzles, what's the difference here? LoZ is not a straight up action adventure game like Castlevania, Megaman or Prince of Persia, LoZ shares too many elements with RPG's to be that.
