Update: Back to LIFE!!!

Hello everyone!!

I finally submitted the thesis!! On Friday!!!

That was one month later than I planned, but I have been working day and night to make it happen and I had just all the energy I needed for this long last sprint!

So THANK YOU ALL

for all the THINKING and ENERGY

you guys sent my way.

I still have to go to work, but now, I actually can have some social life, like going to the movie theater!!! There is the BIFF festival now, and my first movie today is
How to Lose Friends & Alienate People (http://www.biff.no/2008/index.php3?ID=Film&counter=131&Eng=Ja) "How to lose friends and alienate people").

So... What's up with the new layout? Do you like it?

That's all for now...

Luv!

The Last Sprint...

Hello everyone!

Just checking in!

I hope you guys are all right!

I am now working on the last version of the thesis.

I have been saying that for the last couple of months. My head is exploding. I am SO READY for a vacation!!!

My goal is to submitt it on the 12th at the latest. Please, send all your good energy my way, 'cause I will need every bit of it!!! :)

Love!

Btw., the new flat is super! A mess at the moment, but I like myself there! :)

Still Alive... and Superstitious...!!

Yes!

I am still alive! ALIVE!!!! 8)

I am just finishing the NEVER ENDING thesis of mine. I swore I would be finished by the summer... On the bright side, technically, the summer is still not finished...

And I have a temporary partial position as an associate professor, which is definitely exciting and time consuming.... :)

And I will move out from my actual flat to another one, further from the city and a bit more expensive, but bigger... The search was a real pain, I started in June and found the flat 2 weeks ago. I called for many flats, went to visit 4 flats before this one and for some of them, prospecting tenants were offering much more money than proposed, more than I could afford. Very frustrating! The whole moving thing will happen next month, I just signed the contract. My landlord seems quite cool. It feels like this is a new page of my life turning... :)

We have this ritual in my family: when one of us moves in anew place, the first thing we do is to put bread on the table, to make sure there will always be food in the house. We also make sure the bed enters last, to avoid illness. Any of you have such superstitious habits when changing home?

This is the summary of my life so far. I'm trying to be in the mood for packing!! :D Packing!!! Anybody, help!!!

Hugs to you all! I visit several times a week, but miss time to blopp...

Lov... :)

I'm Off To Vote.... :-)

Going to vote today for the French presidential elections! In Oslo! :D

ench Presidential Elections (picture) of flag and country

50 min plane to Oslo and 10 hours bus from Oslo - that was the cheapest. I'll do the same in 2 weeks, if no candidate gets the absolute majority today.

Exciting!!! :) I hope many people will vote and chose well! Some French cities offer 50% off cinema tickets or cheaper access to leasure locations for visitors with proof of having voted. Wish they did the same here in Norway! :)

Have a great Sunday, ya'all -- HUGS!! :)

Rant + An Amazing Race!!!

Bonjour!! How are you all? :)

Got two things today:

One positive and one negative. I start with the negative to get it out of the way, it's a rant...

START OF THE RANT

Oh I hate it when they do that!!!

The cable TV provider decided it was not worth it to show to the comon of us BBC Prime. And now, today, just now: it's GONE!!! GONE!!!!!!

I love this channel: Hustle, Spooks, and other great shows.

I definitly was eager to know the end of Nigel's Place in France: a British newswriter who left it all to start a business in the South of France (Ardèche). He started an Indian Restaurant in the middle of nowhere and later on had to change plans to open a sort of B&B in a chicken farm (where the farmers actually killed the chickens in a tremendous noise once a week in the middle of the night)... Not a big success for Nigel who lost his house in the process, 'cause the guy has ideas, but not real practical sense.

Every show was a bundle of good and bad surprises and moments who feel like watching an accident happening in slow motion. It hurts to watch, and yet, you can't turn your eyes from the screen.

And his friends: optimistic and helpful Resa, so full of energy and ideas - a hero of the modern times; Nippie the pessimistic dark cloud who comes from times to times to inspect and to rob Nigel's nose in it, you wonder why the hell he bothers to visit all the way from UK! Gotta love this kind of friends...

ANYWHOOO -- Just now, I tune to watch the next sequence of events and.... the channel is missing!!!!! History Channel instead!! Who the f*** cares about History Channel when Nigel's Place in France is on??!!??.

END OF THE RANT

Other than that, you need to see this Amazing race: From Costa Rica to The Galapagos Islands: Leatherback Sea Turtles Race is ON!!! :D

Online RPG and Dice

Hello Everyone !!
Happy Easter or Happy Long Weekend!! And sweet chocolate thoughts to the ones who work!!!

I have ONE question today and it has been bothering me for a while now and I can’t find an efficient way to find the answer.
I am in the process of exploring the rules of online role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. I have never played the non virtual version nor do I intend to play any of the versions (online or not). I just want to understand one piece of information:

What happens to the dice, and the outcome of actions usually based on the result of the rolling dice when RPG are played online?

Everywhere I look, it is like everybody knows, or at least, you have to engage into playing to find this out. And I don’t have time for that (register, choosing a character, learn all about it, abilities, languages, spells, etc., learn about the other characters at least a little, join a community, explore the territory and go on quest… -- Aren’t you already tired just to read all that?)

So, once again the question: What takes on the role of the dice in online D&D role-playing games? If you have a reference that could help me in finding the answer, it would be much appreciated!!!

Lots of thanking hugs in advance!

HUGS!!! ;) :)

Finally Some SPORTS!!!

Hello everyone!!
How was the weekend?? Sunny Norway is saluting you! :)

This post today is to celebrate and say goodbye to a great French biathlon ski athlete who retired this season (Click on pics to enlarge):

Raphaël Poirée!!

I think that Biathlon is a really exciting sport: it combines cross-country skiing

and rifle shooting (lying on  the ground then standing, once or twice, according to the race).

So
you need to ski fast, but keep the right pace in order to keep your body quiet enough while shooting 5 targets in a row with precision.
When you miss a target, you either get a penalty tour of 150m (which delays you for around 20-30 seconds) or 1 minute penalty added to your performance, again, depending on the race. So pressure is on to get all the targets right!!

So, at the age of 32, Raphaël decided to leave the competition world to become more of a family man, on the side of his wife Liv Grete Poirée, a retired Norwegian biathlon champion, and their two daughters. They
live now both in France and in Norway, not too far from my town. They really seem to be a great couple, I must say!

Anyway, many people were in disbelief when he announced his retirement. Not that he might actually come back for next season (he is a man of his word), but because he really was at the top of his form and performances. During the last races, all the way to the shooting site or to the finish line, supporters from all countries and staff from other teams were rooting for him. He made his way up on the podiums several times in a row, achieving his career with a total of 103 podiums.

His biggest opponent, Norwegian several times world champion Ole Einar Bjørndalen said that he was going to miss him a lot. They used to train together and enjoyed competing againts each other during so many years. Now, Bjørndalen has to find another “enemy brother” and all eyes are turning towards German champion Michael Greis who did quite well this season in the Biathlon World Cup.

Thanks again, Rapha!!

A little bye bye to Florence Baverel-Robert, from the French women team; she also is retiring. She is a heck of a shooter and had many victories this season.

Norwegian women team lost as well a great athlete: Linda Grubben, who quit before the end of the season. She was no longer motivated for the hard work this life implies and was ready for other challenges. After she left, we could see she was making the difference. Big time!!! But what can ya do? She can no more… She can no more!!

All that was very European so far. Where are the American biathlon athletes?

When I really started to get interested in biathlon, that is, last year with the Torino
Winter Olympic Games, this is the question I had in my mind. I was wondering if only flashy speedy sports were interesting the American athletes. In alpine ski (supert G, downhill, slalom, etc.), you have plenty of them, but were there any in the biathlon skiing?
Then, I noticed two names among a few others: Tim Burke and Jay Hakkinen… in the top 60. OK… Low 60!!

But they apparently changed coach and the results are now amazing! From the top 60, they now regularly make it to the top 20 and Tim Burke often finishes in the top 10! They are quite fast, especially Burke, but they need to be more efficient in the shooting areas and learn to deal with the extra pressure that comes with high levels competitions. But hey, as long as French guys win, I’m cool with US athletes getting better!!! :D

Anyway, if nothing else, support your athletes and watch Biathlon next season!! More info about biathlon at: http://www.biathlonworld.com/eng/

Now, have a great Monday… It does not have to suck! :D

Another Valentine's Day...

Yeah, another Valentine's Day!!

And no present for me... :?

I did get an SMS from a Norwegian admirer mentioning sending me lots of kisses and porn. :x

You know the drill:
- Not in a relationship, Valentine's Day is a commercial thing.
- When you are in a relationship, you gotta have the whole package. At least a little card, a present or a dinner...

Hmmf... I'm not in a relationship at the moment, so I guess we'll take it as a commercial event..

None of the BF I had while V-Day had a decent concept of the event. One did not even know it existed and the others did not think that it applied to them.
One from the last group, another Norwegian guy (not that I have anything against them, but what are they thinking??!!!) was an English teacher, so you are entitled to think that the concept is not unknown. They make a great deal out of it in schools (projects, little fiestas). So why didn't I get a part of the fuss??? The only answer I got was: we don't celebrate that in Norway...

So?? Do you call that an excuse? :?

The only time I got a present was from Mexican friends: Valentine's Day is the friendship day, and everybody exchanges gifts. Aint' that cool? :)

On that note,
Happy Valentine's Day!!
