@Dragon_Nexus @trente I hear you, and it's a good thing that we do all like different things. What a boring world it would be otherwise, eh? I appreciate one person's opinion can differ markedly from another's. But there's no denying this game is extremely repetitive, which doesn't get a mention in the review. For many, this repetition might lend a certain meditative quality to the action, but for others - myself included - it means the game gets pretty boring, pretty quick. But, hey - I'm not the Gamespot reviewer, and it's totally his prerogative to score the game however he sees fit. Me, I'd plump for a 7.
9/10? Really? Do you ever get the feeling people feel compelled to score old-school/retro-style games highly for fear of being accused of not being a 'true' gamer (whatever that is)? This game's so repetitive. I've been playing for the past three hours and frankly I'm tired of doing the same thing over and over again. I've been playing video games for over 30 years and I love the fact that games, and the systems that we play on, constantly move forward, improve, and push technology. I have fond memories of older games, but I know they suck in comparison to the biggest, brightest modern-day examples of the form. I don't want to play a Flash game on the world's most powerful console. Maybe I'm just not a 'true' gamer (whatever that is).
Thank goodness for that. I'm not the only person left horribly disappointed by BI. I trudged through the game waiting for that familiar Bioshock tingle (which ironically only kicked-in during the brief return to Rapture), but I was left feeling frankly rather bored by this latest instalment. A shame. Great article, Mr McShea.
It seems to my mind that Australian censors are still labouring under the idea that video games are for children. But age ratings are there for a reason, and the content that has been flagged as justification for banning Saints Row IV is nothing compared to things depicted in movies of a comparable rating. Fail.
