I used be big on playing Halo 2 on the original, but I found that Halo 3 got really old, really quick. I also dug R6V too, but after I grabbed my elite symbol, I had nothing to play for.
My Xbox scratched my CoD4 disc so bad I couldn't play several of the multiplayer maps. Whenever any of the maps came up in MP, I got disc read errors. I took the disc out (it was practically brand new) only to see deep concentric circular scratches that could only have come from the Xbox.
I actually fixed my disc with a technique I saw at a friends house. You can buff the scratches out with just a little water (just enough to make your fingers damp). Rub your thumb in a circular motion gently over the scratches until they buff out. Next, use a lint-free cotton cloth to gently wipe away the water. What you're essentially doing is wiping off part of the thin layer of plastic that is above the actually data stored on the disc. That plastic is what scratches and obscures the disk reader lense's view, causing the error.
I have successfully fixed not only my CoD4 disc, but also a Halo 2 disc that was previously unplayable using this method.

Dude I just this happen to me last night while I was playing single player!!! I am going to try your trick to see if I can fix it without having to go out and buy another disc. I got a circular scractch around my entire disc in the middle. This sucks because I'm at work right now and I want to play some live when I get home
In my second round through prestige mode level 35, with my total time playing at 1 day and 18 hours. But wont be playing it for awhile since my xbox decided it would scratch up my freakin disc
I have never heard of the 360 beeping, well not during a game at least. The only time I have heard my console beeping is when I put in a disc, and the beeping signifies that it has read the disc and will begin to load
Well I have only played Gears on single player, but both online....(I've had my CoD for 2 weeks and still have yet to crack the single player mode). But as for online play, CoD is better hands down. I thought playing Gears online was lame
it takes the market place forever to load, it has froze several times, and it takes forever to find a match in CoD 4 and it lagges.ghostfacekilr50
See I thought I was the only one when it came to CoD4. I couldn't find matches for anything. But when I would find one, I would be in the lobby for like two seconds, and then it said lobby was closed and then the whole thing would freeze on me. I got so sick of dealing with constant lag and freezing of my system, that I just unplugged my ethernet cord and rebooted the system, and then everything was back to normal. Just CoD4 online :(
I've had numerous friends complain about their discs being scratched when they have their 360's vertical. The way the disc spins while running can actually go too fast and get out of control and scratch the lens. I keep mine horizonal
