This game screams indie.... It's Artsie as hell and looks like WAY more indie games out there than it does JRPG's
It's beautiful THAT'S why it's getting attention just like many other beautiful side scroller's
I love JRPG's.... in fact probably 60%(if not more) of my game collection is JRPG's but I think it's bullcrap when people like you don't give credit where it's due
The "typical" JRPG is niche as hell for a reason(even if they are good)
They're often cheesy as balls(something really hard to get past when your a gamer use to western quality cinematics in games), have tons of grinding(that alone makes even many western RPG's niche), settings and situations that scream anime(anime is something not everyone can enjoy as it is), and Wii graphics (which I'm personally cool with but when 90% of gamer's are main stream graphic whores you need to pull in with something like an art style, flashy action, or great graphics the Wii isn't going to cut it
And Namco Bandai(along with many others) suck total ass at advertising their games(I'd like to point out that Tales of Symphonia did good in North America because they actually advertised it really well and that game was on the Game Cube which was somewhat of a failing console)
As for the Witcher and Metro.... I guarantee you the average gamer has no idea where those games were made so I highly doubt that had anything to do with it......In fact from what I've read The Witcher 2 and Last Light both did decent especially Witcher
But the Witcher is an RPG which not only Japans tend to have a cult fanbase... not main stream..... Name some popular as hell RPG's and tell me the rpg elements aren't dumbed down like crazy good or not
But I don't know why you think this is going to do so amazingly?
Because there's a video of it?
There were plenty of videos of all the Atelier games...
Perhaps this will be popular in the indie crowd but that would be brought on by the art style
I just don't see how this looks to you like a standard JRPG because It doesn't..... I also don't see why 2 games that look western as hell would be ignored because their from Eastern Europe....
RPG's in the west are pretty well ignored just as RPG's from Japan.... maybe not quite as much but there is a cultural difference after all
