The multitasking and video chat looked very sweet. It seems like Nintendo is really try hard to allow people to create online communities this time around. That Super Mario Game looked really nice too.

[QUOTE="umcommon"][QUOTE="Toxic-Seahorse"] Why did you buy a Wii if you don't like motion controls?Toxic-Seahorse
Motion controls are good if they make the experience more efficient and intuitive. I've learned from having the Wii that I prefer games that rely more on the pointer than attempted 1:1 motion. To me the pointer is the Wii's biggest asset, not notion controls that are forced onto everything under the sun.

You'd rather mash A to attack than actually have a deep combat system like Skyward Sword has?

It was an attack combo system, so for me Twilight Princess felt more rewarding. I guess I'm one of the few people who felt a button press + a simple motion and direction was better. Plus I found the combat quicker, more dynamic, and I liked being able to move while I attack.

I can't say I like the FPS genre... but it would be beneficial for Nintendo to publish at least one blockbuster FPS game since it draws a lot of people to the console, in turn encouraging other developers to bring other games to the console.

[QUOTE="spike6958"] LOL...noToxic-Seahorse

I'll put it this way... I played SS for 5 hours and decided to play through TP again after that, much more fun. SS is easily the most disappointed I've ever been with a Nintendo first party purchase. Everyone has their own opinion, mine is the game was simply underwhelming at best.

Why? It's useless to say your opinion without giving reasons why.

I found the characters shallow, world empty, the platforming annoying, there was no Epona, flying was terrible, stamina meter was terrible, I didn't like the overuse of motion controls, fi sounded like a computer not a "spirit". But most of all there was nothing connecting the world to the conflict at hand, Twilight Princess managed to do a pretty good job involving other people in the process, in Skyward Sword it just seemed like Zelda was kidnapped for the heck of it and no one but her was effected.

[QUOTE="umcommon"]

[QUOTE="Gue1"]

they were talking about the complexities of coming up with creative ideas to make use of the controller. It was kind of obvious since all games are made with buttons in my mind and Nintendo forcing their innovation down the developers throatsis not helpinng. I hope Sony and MS realize this and make their gimmicks as a second option for devs to support it only if they want to.

But that article is pretty old though....

Gue1

How the heck is Nintendo forcing this down people's throats? The controller comes with all the buttons and functions of a standard controller but with an EXTRA feature; the touch screen. Would it really be so hard for these devs to simply just use the controller for simple menu functions... that would be a piece of cake. How is the touch screen not a second option? I'd think Kinect would be the hardest to program for.

Nintendo is forcing it by having all these gimmicks like the Wii-mote and now the iPad with buttons as the primary method of inputs for the games while developers don't complain about the Move and Kinect because they are secondary. They make games for Move or Kinect only if they want to.

From the article: "[a developer]lamented the difficulty of moving innovative games unique to Wii U to other platforms." That's one of the complexities they are talking about.

Wii-mote, yes I can see difficulties with that. But again, even though the screen is on the controller its not like the developer has to use it in any major way. I don't see how having a menu function on the controller would be that hard to code for. If a developer wants to make a mutiplat game than they shouldn't try to make it unique to the Wii U. This was one major problem I had with Wii games; developers would try too hard to make a game "unique" to the console, but in the process forgot about making the game itself good. For example, I thought Resident Evil 4 was one of the best games for Wii in every way. It wasn't designed with the Wii in mind at all, but it was a great game to begin with and Capcom implemented the controls in a way that wasn't force... Why can't more developers think like this?
