I just finished Gears of War 3's campaign... What a dumb fucking game. It's like it was written by 10 year olds or made for them...

Outside of the nauseating story though... ehh... it was alright to pretty good, but I never really want to touch the series again.

Gears 3 campaign is the most fun in the franchise, isnt saying much really. Try the multiplayer thats were the game shines

I have no way to try the multiplayer. I don't have XBL.

Gears 2 campaign was better.

I thought 1 and 3 were better. Too much of Gears 2 is spent underground and there were to many on rail sequences. And Dom's story was a jarring shift in the story that not everyone liked

Anyway Gears and Halo are old, stale, and slow. Gears of War was fine when it was fresh and basically kill switch, but good.

Once Uncharted 2 became a thing, Vanquish became a thing, and now we got things like The Last of Us and Tomb Raider, Gears is kind of meh in comparison. As a multiplayer game it's fun, really fun, but all that special? nah, not even close. Wall bouncing is neat and all, but the game is a glorified shotgun fest with not that much of a skill ceiling, and a whole lot of i got luckier with my shotgun than that other guy did. It's far away from being a Counterstrike or something, but that's the difference between a proper FPS multiplayer vs tps.

And Halo its either it stays the same, and continues to be outclassed by better PC shooters, or it changes some things and that point it stops being Halo, but also barely changes because they are trying to keep too much Halo into it.

Fact is Microsoft needs fresher ips. Halo and Gears have become stagnant. The Mario counter argument doesn't work, Mario's games are A: the class of their genre and B: actually fucking change from time to time. C: don't suck.

... Vanquish, Uncharted, The Last of Us and Tomb Raider are incredibly different from Gears aren't even as good as Gears in terms of what people like about Gears.... Ya know, the shooting. The Last of Us, Uncharted and Tomb Raider are more concerned about trying to tell some half baked stories(... Well, the Last of Us was actually good, but that's aside the point) and wrestling control from you so they can show off big set pieces(dear lord, the first like hour of Tomb Raider is Lara falling) rather than having interesting combat scenarios.

I can understand if you don't like the 80s stupid action movie aesthetive but NONE of those games do what Gears did but better, they just did similar things but differently.

Although Vanquish WAS actually a good third person shooter unlike Tomb Raider and Naughty Dog's cinematic games. But it was hypercharged and acted more like Platinums other Action games. The pacing was so different that it's still a totally different experience from Gears.

I doubt it. Gears never been as varied, competitive or had the mass market appeal of Halo. The only thing Gears has ever had over Halo was graphics and by Halo 4 that wasn't the case anymore.

Not to mention even after the less well received multiplayer for Reach and 4 and the botched MCC I just generally see more enthusiasm from Halo than Gears. By Judgement everyone I knew was pretty done with Gears. The Gear universe just has less potential than Halo.

Gears has a very defined identity and there's not a lot you can do with it. It's a gorey shooter where you shoot a bunch of monsters. The locust are tired out (so prequels or inbetweenquels wouldn't be too appealing), they had less culture than the covenant, so you can't do as much with them. Having the Cog fight a new faction of monsters or aliens(especially aliens) would feel contrived. Not to mention, humanity was in NO SHAPE to be fighting anymore by the end of Gears 3 so to feasibly continue the series it'd have to be much later.

And fighting humans....? That's not Gear at all.

After this year I just don't even care about Gamespot reviews and staff. They're on level with Kotaku in my eyes.

Congrats to Monolith. This is why you should never judge a game by developer before their game is out.

It's not like Monolith hasn't made good games before.

Lol Patcher..

But seriously, who needs Patcher to figure this out? I already pointed out xbone doesn't have any games for the first 6 mo's of 2015 and not even the most die hard lems could suggest otherwise and most nintendo fans already bought a wii U for Big-N exclusives. This isn't a prediction anyone needs someone else to announce to conclude.

This "prediction" is equivalent to someone saying that if you compete in the sport of boxing you are going to get punched. Any damage control coming from lems because this quote is coming from Patcher is easily silenced by asking one question..

What high profile xboxone games are coming out to push xbone systems in the first 6 months 2015 (confirmed release dates anyone)?

Yeah MS's strategy of releasing inferior multiplats and no high profile exclusives until the 4Q holiday season against PS4 worked out real well for xbone in 2014. It's going to be MUCH worse in 2015.

Where were the PS4 high profile exclusive like ALL of 2014? Cuz all I saw was Infamous?

I'm not going to disagree with you on the PS4 selling better but the no games argument isn't going to fly. The Xbox One easily had a better 2014 game line up. Just because Sony would prefer to stack the first part of the year instead of the back half(the most important of the year when most purchases happening) doesn't mean the xbox one has no games.

And Microsoft has on many occasions only announced release date and ENTIRE games mere months before their releases as is often the case with the Forza series and Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

I haven't purchased a toy since I was 13. Locking game features behind over priced figures is more despicable than day one dlc btw.

Well, I agree with him but I sort of think it's obvious.

But why do people care what he has to say again?

The likely GotY for GS is either Bayonetta 2 or Mario Cart 50...or whatever the number was this year. I'd be shocked if it was something else. The fact that TLoU: Left Behind won PS3 GotY and it came out in Feb only cements that to me. The next gen consoles - according to GS - did not have any games worthy of the "title".

Oh you mean Mario Kart 8, which only 8 Mario Kart's have been released in 22 years across different systems and how many Halo's games have MS released since the Xbox? 10 and how many God of Wars have Sony released since the PS2? 10. Yeah so who's milking who.

.... Mario Kart is a part of the Mario series. Don't even try to Compare the milkage of Mario to Halo and God of War, Mario is on a whole other level that Halo and God of War will never reach in milkage

The thing about the Mario series is that the games are massively different it's just the characters that are the same. When they transitioned to 3D they could have replaced Mario and claim it was a new IP and everyone would believe it.

Halo on the other hand has barely changed over the years.

I'd argue that the mainline Halo shooter have defintely seen more change that the 3d Mario platformers. It's pretty unfair to expect more change of Halo than Mario within the same span of time(how much has Mario changed from Sunshine to Galaxy 2?). And the radical change from 2d to 3d was more to the change from the change in hardware and necessity of 3d games back than the actual ambitions of Mario.

Halo's not going to see that huge paradime shift. Not without radical change in hardware and at this point time there will probably never be another radical change like 2d to 3d.

Having all these Mario spin offs that could be entirely different ips really drive home the point that Mario is milked. Why not have Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Striker etc be new ips? Milk.
