so much hate...

I have full bibliography that I didn't post. And on the subject of wikipedia, last year in my AP European History class, the entire class was using wikipedia for information on a single subject (Russian revolution or something). My friends and I were editing the article with hilarious results. Only moments after we edited the articles, our computers received notices informing us not to violate TOS or something, and the articles were corrected. This is why I trust wikipedia.

Thank you for the constructive criticism. I should now better than to post in the system wars forums, y'all are mean

With a topic like this you shoulda had fun with it, used sarcasm, humour, and non-technical facts and it would have been fine. mexicangordo

And that would have been appropriate for a final essay?

lol, your first two points contradict each other. First you say kids now sit around in dark rooms playing games instead of running around having fun, and then you say today's gamer is no longer a guy who sits in a dark room and plays video games instead of getting a job or girlfriend. B at besthamstergeddon

reread that particular passage. I create the image of the alienated gamer only to introduce the new hip gamer.

It is more than videogames. They are part of a much larger movement...

I found the statisics from wikipedia. Of course I used stats that would make the 360 look better, that was the whole point for the paper. I excluded the Wii from comparison because it was only a 6 page paper. The assingment we were given was to write a 1250 word research paper on any topic we wanted, so instead of doing on some tired topic I decided to talk about video games. Sorry if you don't like it, but try to understand that I am not trying to insult anyone. Like I said, I like the PS3, its fun as hell, but I needed to take a stand for my paper and I like the 360 more.

Obviously it was a persuasive essay, thus, it need to be biased. And omg, I mistyped 'wrote'. I should be shot directly in the face. I got a 94 on this paper btw.

One thing that the PS3 has that the 360 does not is High Definition movie playback capabilities. The PS3 disks are on the Blu-Ray format, while the 360 disks are on the HD DVD format. The PS3 has a Blu-Ray player built in, which means that a player can play Blu-Ray movies on it as well as games. The Xbox 360 is not burdened with an HD DVD player, but has one available as an add-on. Peter Moore, Vice President of the Interactive Entertainment Devices Division of Microsoft, recently told Electronic Gaming Monthly that it's all about games. "We're not forcing movie technology on game players...It's about games, not movies." (Hsu 12-20) The PlayStation forces a High Definition movie player onto everyone who purchases one, when only a small percentage of people have High Definition TVs. The Xbox 360 lets the consumer choose wither or not to go for High Definition movie playback.
Online gaming and graphics do not mean anything if the player does not have games to take of advantage of them. Good games are what move consoles, and the Xbox 360 has quite the library of "Killer Apps". Games that are exclusive to one console only are very important to a consoles success. A shining example of an amazing exclusive is Gears of War. Gears was released in the fourth quarter of 2006, and its sale boosted the 360s sales deep into the black. In the third quarter of 2006, only 0.9 million 360s were shipped, but in the fourth quarter, 4.4 million units were shipped (www.xbox.com). That shows how powerful the Holiday Season and how important exclusive titles are. In recent months, the PS3 has lost many of its exclusives. Just recently, one of Sony's most beloved franchises went multiplatform. Metal Gear Solid 4 was just announced to be coming to the 360 with exclusive content aimed for the 360.
Later this year, September 25 to be exact, the Xbox 360 will burry the PlayStation 3 for good, when the long awaited AAA title, Halo 3 is released. The first game set in the "Haloverse" was a launch title for the original Xbox, back in 2001. Many hold that Halo: Combat Evolved saved the Xbox from certain peril. Halo:CE is still held as one of the most perfect First Person Shooters ever made. Halo 2, released in November of 2004, sold 1.25 million copies in its first day, making the most grossing entertainment opening ever. It remained the most played Xbox Live title for 2 years, until it was usurped by Gears of War. Halo 2 revolutionized the way people thought about competitive and online gaming. Now Halo 3 is fixing to do the same. Halo 3 is reported to already have an astounding 6 million preorders. It will go multi-platinum within minutes of its release. The PS3 does not have any exclusives that can compete with H3. It will truly be the PS3 killer.
The Xbox 360 is a shining example of what a next generation gaming console truly should be. Although the Playstation is an adequate example, Microsoft's behemoth is far above Sony's little toy. From the multiplayer experience to the user interface, the Xbox 360 is simply the better machine. Many people made the incorrect choice of investing into the inferior system, but many more made the correct choice.
