He lived a good life. He was quite interesting. He made porn, yet it was very difficult to deny that he was a very tasteful person. I found that dissonance very cool.

It sounds like he's complaining that anime is made by Otaku, rather than just watched by Otaku.

And to be honest, I think there's something to it. The way people act in anime is governed more by tropes than by observation of real people. I mean, think about it. How many "tsunderes" do you know in real life? Maybe one? I've never met one myself. How many "kuuderes"? Probably none. It only makes sense to compare those character to other anime characters, because there's no analogue in real life.

Even the more true-to-life tropes have a tendency to dominate characters more than they do real people.

Think about it, In a lot of popular anime (particularly moe stuff), you can pidgeonhole most of the characters into an archetype, or in some cases a twist on an archetype. And sure, there are some people in real life who you can give an archetype to, but by and large even those people won't fit it all that well, because real people tend to be more complicated than that

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of anime myself, I'm an Otaku in case you didn't know. I love moe shows. The formulas work for me. The fact that moe shows tend to be full of references to other moe shows works for me, for whatever reason. But on the other hand, the truly stand out shows are the ones where the characters act like real people (and yes, there are some moe shows where this is the case, although they're comparatively rare).

Take something like Stand Alone Complex. Sure, there are character tropes, but the characters aren't dominated by those tropes. There isn't that temptation to label all of the characters, because they just don't categorize that well, and that is a sign of good characterization. Contrast that with, say, your average harem show, and there's just no comparison.

Anyway, my point is, a lot of anime really is just made by anime geeks for anime geeks. In absence of known anime tropes, it would just seem really weird and nonsensical; whether you can understand the plot rests very heavily on how much similar anime you've seen in the past. It doesn't really stand on it's own, and I can see where that might bother someone like Miyazaki.

This post hits all the points perfectly. It is a pretty great post. I'd also like to add to it that all of this cyclical. The abundance of ecchi and moe tropes are just a trend. Anime goes through trends every 10 years or so. This is just the latest one.

Like another poster said. This is just like Hollywood or any other media-making industry. It is the same, in that 90% of everything made is just pure unadulterated crap.

My parents weren't abusive or anything like so there's that at least. Generally though, I think they could have been more hands-on. I honestly don't remember a single thing that they ever taught me. Most of what I learned from other people was from looking at my siblings or just experimenting. My siblings themselves learned what they knew from their friends.

I don't really give shit to my parents about that though. They were working for most part, so they didn't really have the time.

I am still not necessarily sold on the switch. It seems more like a repeat of the Wii's success than anything. Basically, it makes me think that this is more like a success for Nintendo than for gamers in general. Maybe as the months pass and more game announcement are made, I'll change my mind.

Sadly, being a Nazi is not as bad as it used to be. Back in the day if you were a Nazi, you could have gotten your ass killed by a WWII veteran. Now, you get fired but only if some buttthurt SJW decides to dox you.

I am not old but man... It sucks that being a Nazi does not make a person bad by default. We are at a point that even if you are a straight up Nazi, people give you some benefit of the doubt. As in, being a hateful racist bigot is not evil anymore. It is just a point of view. We have become weak as ****. We are waaay too tolerant.

Tom Holland for me. Mostly because I prefer teenage spider-man than college-age spider-man stories. I don't think anybody could do better at being teenage-y spider-man as Tom Holland. That dude has awkwardness distilled to an essence. It is almost cringey.

It does makes me wonder how he would do an adult spider-man down the line. I just can't see him pull it off though. Grown-up spider-man has a different nuisance to his character than teenage spider-man.

You could get tired of it for sure. As one get more mature, quality of sex tend to be tied with who you do it instead of how much you do it. Some people will be amazing at knowing what makes you tick, others will not. This will get more noticeable as you have more sex.

Side note though: If you find that one person that gives you the best of times, do NOT let her/him go. You will regret it down the line.

@Ovirew:

I'll keep your advice in mind. I kinda noticed that we don't particularly have much in common anyway. The few things that we do have in common, is because I introduced her to them.

This part of your reply ring true in my situation: "...they'll spend a bunch of time talking to you, but throw it all away in a second because they still have tons of other people they secretly talk to."

We actually have been friends for 5 years now and I've noticed that even when she is single and it seems that we are going to finally be a thing, she is actually talking with multiple guys at the same time.

@mrbojangles25:

My perception is definitely messing up how I see everything. It is ridiculously hard to be logical and objective. I think it is the fact that she straight up says that she loves me yet she doesn't love the person she's currently with, that drives me crazy. She is just "not 'in-love' with me" or so she says. She also always reminds me that the reason why she loves me is that she thinks that I am the only person in her life that cares for her, which may be a lie to keep me attached but I wouldn't be sure. I actually have been dating for a while to keep myself sane thorough the whole endeavor and to not feel so "weak" so to speak. It is just way hard to maintain my relationships healthy when it can be obvious to the girls that I hang with that I am clearly in love with my friend.

I like your recommendation on having her be in the passenger's seat for a while though. It is something that I haven't tried, as I tend to be private with my problems even with family.
