I have a GeForce 7800 GTX with Win XP sp1. Up to a few days ago I've been using the original driver that came with the card, the 77.77. then I upgraded to 163.71 and I have noticed some problems with my color settings.
In the past there was only nview to make these adjustments, but now there's also nvidia control panel. The problem is that they seem to work independentlyy from one another, therefore the changes made on one are added to how the other one was set. This makes it very hard to change colors.
The biggest problem I have been having is while watching video files, they are too bright, washed out. Changing contrast or saturation only makes the video too dark. In the nvidia control panel video settings, the gamma option is grayed out and cannot be used, why?
It's already several days that I try unsuccessfuly to adjust these colors, or they are too bright, or too dark or good for one application but totally unusable for another. In the past the old settings were fine for just about anything, games, films, desktop etc.. What I don't uderstand is which one should I use to change my color settings, nview or the new nvidia control panel? I have noticed that when I use the control panel with a video playing, the changes applied to the video are clearly visible, but when i turn the panel off the settings go back to how they were before, what's the problem? Can anyone shed some light on this because have no ided and my eye are starting to hurt from all this.
I have just upgraded my video driver for my Gforce 7800 GTX card from 77.77 to 163.71. Although I am not having any real problems with how my pc is working, my color settings are all messed up. I have been trying to re-set them like they were before but I just can't. The desktop settings are ok more or less, where I am having problems is the video settings for my films and games. Everything seems too bright, the white is too flashy, too strong. If I lower the contrast it becomes too dark. Also before my PC only had nview from nvidia to correct color settings, but now there's also nvidia control panel. The problem is that they work independently from one another. It's already 5 days that I am at this and I am losing my patience. Nothing looks good anymore, games are too bright or too dark, when i fix them then the videos are too bright or too dark, especially that white color which is burnout. Does anyone have any idea on why after changing driver i have these problems?
I Know this is going to be a silly question, but here it goes. I have a Gforce 7800 GTX VGA card, the current driver is still the original one, Forceware 77.77. Most of people update video driver very often but in the past I have had a bad experience with it and since then I never touch the thing. Unfortunately I have come to the point where updating my driver has become necessary in order to play the latest games which brings me to my silly question. Nvidia advises to uninstall the old driver first before installing the new one, is this really necessary. I ask because it was during this process that a few years back I found myself in a tight spot. If I install the new driver with the old one still in place will something bad happen? How do you update your Nvidia driver?
