Microsoft doesn't get it! They have tipped their hand. They don't let you buy games. Their "license" service that requires you to buy a $500 monstrosity is not going to "gain value". The more Xbone games you buy, the more games you lose access to when they exercise their service suspension clause.
Take note ladies and gentlemen, the XBone will go down in history. Microsoft assumed Sony would go down the same path. MS was suffering from sluggish Windows 8 sales and Sony has had 9 straight years without any profit from their television division. Microsoft came out with a press conference like a marriage proposal, "Sony, Join us in our DRM scandal and we will rake in the cash! Together we can rule the industry. It is your destiny." But Sony said, "I'll never join you" and we all cheered.
Quote: "while gamers will need to pay $60 for a PlayStation Eye camera"
Actually they won't NEED to buy a camera at all. But for Xbone, since there is no way to buy without the camera or disconnect it, you are effectively paying for a 60$ camera and 40$ microphone whether you want to or not.
Microsoft says, "When Xbox One is on and you’re simply having a conversation in your living room, your conversation is not being recorded or uploaded,"
Why all the qualifiers? Why could they only garuntee it won't upload/record a "simple conversation"? What about a conversation involving bombs, or xbox, or netflix.
Wouldn't have been a more legally sweeping statement to say "Neither Microsoft nor Xbox One will ever upload any data it collects on you, ever. The only data on you it collects and uploads regards your gamer score and achievement list. Also, we apologize for our role in PRISM and will stop selling your personal information."
I feel bad for anyone that picks up an Xbone day one. Imagine spending hundreds of dollars to get the Xbone, hundreds more for a small library of games and then the system goes the way of the Dreamcast in a year or two.
Unlike the dreamcast, which I can still plug in to play Sonic and crazy-taxi, the Xbone would turn into a brick incapable of ever playing any game ever again.
@sammoth @EchoStation I think "tinfoil hat" implies someone is worried about something that is imagined for crazy reasons.
Is it crazy to think MS will continue giving your information to the government as they have been secretly doing for the last few years? When news broke that Microsoft, Skype, Facebook and AOL have been spying and selling or giving away your private information for the PRISM program, did you would think they would at least say they won't do it anymore, right? They defend the practice. Obama says it's necessary.
Microsoft promises "clear notifications about how data is used" will be transmitted to the console. http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/privacy But no details yet! I guess we're supposed to be satisfied that someday we'll get a "clear notification" like PRISM after they got caught:

You don't need a tinfoil hat to be disinterested in the idea of an always-listening, always watching device that refuses to work unless it can send hourly updates to... someplace for some reason. And if you don't, your device turns into a brick that won't play any games you bought until you do.
Wasn't the one game Microsoft showed off at their reveal Call of Duty Ghost? Yet the game is still slated to be multi-platform, including 360, PS3 and PS4 simultaneously. Sorry XB one!
