I've been playing this and I find that while the Attitude Era is fantastic, there are still other problems. For starters, the game isn't new-player friendly; there are absolutely no teaching tools or a proper tutorial. If you aren't aware of the context sentitive moves, you can easily lose matches. Also, the audio is really bad. The commentary is repetitive and the audio-levels of the re-used commentary in Attitude Era is way too high. I know they wanted to keep it authentic but the mixing just sounds off.
I also kind of wish there was some sort of current story mode rather than just the WWE Universe...I kind of miss being able to take my created superstar and really making him a superstar.
In any case, I'd probably give this game a 6.5 according to GameSpot's review scale and guidlines.
@JMcN76 Yeah, GameSpot has given up on sports game since they laid off their old Sports Editor. All sports games except for Madden and FIFA are now reviewed by Freelance writers, so you won't get much in terms of consistency. That's also why reviews are much later than other sites. Mind you, IGN appears to review games on debug units as their early reviews are significantly earlier than other sites who wait until they get retail.
Funny how they let go of a sports dedicated person but they still keep a reviewer who just does fighting games. Are there any more fighting games actually worth caring about?
Too bad they gave this review to a freelancerr because I would have loved to have seen a video review of the game. NHL is a good series that needs to be seen in action, not in stills.
Too bad they have no one in the office to do proper sports review!
Still, enjoying the game so far but anxious to read once this freelancer does a PS3 review if he had the same problem others are having with game crashs and server issues with EA. If he does, you can expect a 7.5 for PS3.
This freelance reviewer is actually Canadian. He's been doing the NHL reviews for a while. If I'm not mistaken, he is or was the mayor of a town in Ontario (Prescott?).
Also, don't forget, a lot of the old GS staff were Canadians: Sophia, Marko and Brendan are all Canucks.
