define fail..springz300
Well I don't mean fail as in all Sony fans destroy their PS3's and then nuke Sony's HQ, but I mean they will not be in the same league as Nintendo and Microsoft at the end of this generation of gaming. Sure, I admit Sony does have a console that could very well last the longest of all the systems, but first it needs to make some changes so it can actually get it's foot in the door so to speak.
Oh, and thanks everyone for providing logical arguments, I thought this was going to a flame fest. :)
Sony never said "We don't fund development" he said they don't pay for exclusives. Of course they fund development, they help small studios make new IPs.

Um, read the quote for yourself:
"Microsoft is too dependent upon the third-party community, and Nintendo is too dependent upon first-party. We like to feel that we got a pretty good mix. We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors. We don't buy exclusivity. We don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform. We earn it by saying you can build a better game on our platform. If you focus your development on our platform, you will ultimately be more successful." - SCEA boss Jack Tretton
@Omnisystem - thanks for replying with a proper rebuttle - I don't post my thoughts to be an a-hole, just my observations as I see them.
But the PS3 has "Better" hardware!? Countless times in history the better hardware has not won, sure the PS3 may have blu-ray, a better processor than the other consoles, a bigger HD etc, but it's becoming more like a low-level PC than a gaming machine. Just think back to Betamax and VHS - Betamax was no doubt the greater technology....but what comes with greater technology? Price. Most consumers will go for the cheaper option as long as it's "good enough" - most people don't need, or can't afford top of the line products so they go for the next option down, which is in this case the 360 or the Wii.
Developer support. It's a known fact that the PS3 is the most expensive console to produce games for, side that with the high price of the PS3, and low install base and developers rely on the hope that the console will suddenly pick up in sales significantly. It would be and is a much safer bet to transfer production to the 360 or to save even more money, the Wii.
"We don't fund development." That is an official statement from Jack Tretton of Sony. He makes similarities between funding and bribing, which is not only arrogant, but it's quite stupid. Sony should be funding development of third-party games, why else would a developer want to make a game for the system in it's current state? Sure, there are a few big developers working on games, but compared to the Wii and the 360 it's quite a small amount. Sony should be more supportive of developers to be getting exclusives, and getting more games on their system.
Giving people things they don't want or need. If I told my friends if they wanted to watch some High Definition DVD's they'd be "okay", but if I said lets watch some Blu-Ray DVD's, they'd be "huh?" Blu-ray is an unnecessary feature for most people, and if it does beat HD-DVD, would be more suited for the next-generation where the price would be consideranly lower. Most people don't even know what Blu-ray is, apart from entertainment enthusiasts, meaning people don't understand why they are paying more than double the price of the other consoles.
Kill Zone 2. KZ2 has for some reason been crowned as if it's the second coming of Christ for some strange reason. Why would this contribute to the failing of the PS3? Well no one has seen any gameplay footage of it, played it, and Sony has basically released no information on it. All there is, is an old CG trailer. There is this enormous amount of hype that could and probably will (because no game is THAT good) make a lot of Sony fans angry at it's release. The original Killzone did not rate well - that does not mean it's sequel will be bad, but it has no good track record, meaning this hype has no base.
Just my thoughts, don't get nasty.
I bought some shares at $36, and some shares at $40 and now the share price is just under $50.
I love Nintendo :D
In the article it says it's aiming for hardcore.Eponique
Yeah, I know, but still it doesn't sound very hardcore, lol.
