Microsoft and BesTV are planning a new joint venture to create a new game console

Microsoft and Chinese media company BesTV New Media Co., Ltd, are partnering to bring a new gaming console and streaming device to China. According toXinhua News, BesTV posted the news on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The new venture, E-Home Entertainment Development, will be 51 percent owned by BesTV and 49 percent owned by Microsoft. The total investment in the joint venture is $237 million.

"This is the first step of many to come for Microsoft and BesTV," Microsoft toldPolygon. "We look forward to exploring new opportunities for bringing entertainment offerings to China, but we have no further details to share."

Other unconfirmed reports found by Polygon say the new console will be based on Xbox technology and be called the Bestpad. BesTV is China's leading IPTV provider with 18 million IPTV subscribers in China, southeast Asia and eastern Europe. The company just recently acquired the five-year, exclusive broadcast rights for the Premier League.

For a long time, China had a ban on the production and release of game consoles from non-Chinese companies, but that ban is expected to be lifted soon. Companies will now be able to produce their consoles within Shanghai's planned free-trade zone.

What is it with Nintendo?  They do great with handhelds, but when it comes to home consoles, they seem to never get it right.    The game library is pathetic, with the exception of most of the first party games, which are sorely lacking, and the controller is a complete disaster.   I hated having to recharge that thing every 3 hours.  I found myself missing the wiimote and nunchuck, which were almost as bad.  3rd party support is doing absolutely nothing for the system.  Even Arkham Origins, the one redeeming 3rd party title coming to the system is gimped of online play vs the other consoles.

I bought the system with the Wind Waker bundle, but I just couldn't shake the feeling that $300 for a 10 year old game with slightly better visuals that you don't even notice that much while playing is just too much.  

The Wii U is a complete disaster.  Buying the Wii u is rewarding Nintendo for bad behavior.   If there's a company that needs to drop out of the home console market, it is definitely NIntendo.  Nintendo, just stop.  Maybe I shouldn't call it a complete disaster.  I guess if you like the same old Mario and Zelda games over and over, or you're still pre-pubescent, it might be a good console for you.

Anywhere that people use work stations, you will find Linux running the machines, especially where power and stability are needed. Yes your average office administrator and home user are running a version of windows, including just about everyone who frequents these forums, but the big boys use Linux.
