make sure your monitor is hdcp compliant, otherwise you wont be able to hook it up. use hdmi if your monitor has it.

As a new slim owner, I would recommend getting it as soon as you can, by any means possible. If I were you I think that I would take the risk of buying one coming from another country, especially since it is completely region free. Ps3's in general have a much lower failure rate than Microsoft's Xbox, so I would risk not having a warranty.
