you guys are all Sci Fi NOOBS! all you see is Halo, Borderlands and maybe Star Wars... can't you see the real underlying inspiration? early Miyazaki (Nausicaa, Castle in the sky), Dune, the Forever World, and of course Warhammer 40k which has inspired every aspect of our gaming since it ever existed. hell i can even get John Carter and the princess of mars vibes from it!
yeah i see some asthetical nuances of new games like Halo, Mass Effect... but that's the zeitgeist of the art, if you dig deeper you can see that Destiny has Sci Fi inspiration from works of fiction from before some of your grandfathers even existed.
actually that's great news and nothing else, the Cryengine has some of th best ambient lighting and shadows, really good texture rendering, and some of the best draw distance in the gaming world. i still see that Unreal Engine 4 gets all mushy the further you see things, something the CryEngine still handles better.
I can actually see developers who wish to create vast, lush world use this engine with great effect. anything from very colorful RPG's to the brownest and brony FPS's, i've seen the mod community take the Cryengine from the SDK alone and create simulators with it, RTS games. so i have a good feeling that the gaming world can use this engine really well and especially with the jump in tech in the next gen, this can only mean good things.
