I'd do the exact opposite of what bear grylls does and live quite happily.
You can get potable water, that is drinkable, from urine by using two plastic water bottles. Urinate in one, attack the other to it with tape or something. Burry the bottle with urine in the sand, leave the other exposed to sunlight. The next day condensation will have carried the water from the urine separating them to the other bottle.
