Google Chrome Review

This is probably going to be my longest blog post yet. On my previous YouTube account, I had reviews of the biggest Internet browsers, which are :

Opera

Mozilla Firefox 3

Internet Explorer 7

The other browser I had reviewed was Google Chrome, which is a new offering. As of yet, it's still in the Beta stage, so there are a few little niggles here and there. Still, it's currently my favourite browser. I uninstalled Opera, but I've kept Firefox in case Chrome is 'broken' during an update. I can't uninstall Internet Explorer as it is a base file in the OS, and anyway, I wouldn't uninstall it even if I could - because when all is said and done, it's still the most reliable browser of them all. Back to Chrome :

As I said, Chrome is a new offering, and it is based on one of the most reliable rendering engines. Chrome is currently only available on Windows XP and Windows Vista, but Google has stated that they will be porting it to Mac. Annoyingly, there are a few Mac rip offs that are identikit. The 'best' one is called Chromium. Kinda obvious where the naming inspiration came from. I'll admit that I''ve never liked Firefox much, but Chrome has destroyed it. Even on the XP computer I have, Chrome is faster than IE7 and Firefox. Here's my ratings :

Speed : 10/10

The speed that Chrome loads webpages at is quite literally, staggering. It can load up Google for me in about half a second - if my internet is lagging, about a second. I compared it to Firefox, and found that Firefox was far slower. As far as I can remember, Chrome runs on the Gecko Engine. If it does, the Gecko engine is definitely the way forward.

Looks : 8/10

To be really honest, Chrome doesn't look as good as it runs. I think that Firefox's default theme looks a lot better to be honest, but my computer's theme is Alienware Invader. The only good thing about how it looks is that the navigation bar is very minimalistic,, and therefore gives all the webpages the majority of the screen to play with.

Work : 9/10

This section should have been a 10/10. It really should. It would be apart from the fact that my Chrome no longer automatically adds the file extensions. I have to write the name of the file, and then add the file extension myself. If this was a big issue, I wwoulld have dropped this score by more. It isn't a big issue though, so I'm not really fussed. I can add the file extensions without even thinking about it anymore. I already know that this little flaw is exclusive to me, as my XP desktop and my sister's laptop both can identify the file types. So this field is debatable.

Overall : 10/10

This is the most complete browser I've ever used. It's fast, it's easy to use, and it is completely free. Not only is it free, but it doesn't require add ons like Firefox. You don't even need GameFOX to speed up GameFAQs. They're already fast enough. Also, Chrome genuinely is the future. The two main PC magazines in the UK both had headlines saying 'Chrome : Meet The Revolution', or something very similar. Also, Chrome is ideal for any specced computer, as it is fast on all specs, and it takes up the least memory of any browser. Trust me on this. Get Chrome.

Grr... YouTube Gone!

Something very annoying and unusual happened to me last night. I went to sign into my YouTube channel (YeOldeSierra), and all my personal details had changed. No problem I thought, I'll just change them back to what they really are. However, when I went to do this, the tab was just infinitely loading.

I closed the tab, and then opened another YouTube tab. Wheneve I went to sign in, I was told my account had been permanently disabled. This means that someone had hacked my YouTube account, messed with it and then deleted it. The worst part is that I know who did it. It's the same hacker that stole my account on Xbox LIVE over the summer. That hacker is the reason that I changed my Gamertag to xMP44x Paul in the first place. It's not that losing my YouTube is annoying, it's that I had put so much time and work into making it the way I liked, and now it's gone!

Here's some information about my channel :

Username : YeOldeSierra

Videos Uploaded : 31

Channel Views : 700

Videos Watched : 9,000

Subscribers : 7

I know that it's not an icredible number in any respect apart from videos watched, but it hurts ot being able to use your genuine account because someone deleted it. And yes, I know that Machinima and the other big accounts frequently get mre that 700 Channel Views an hour, but the amount of time I put into my account is what angers me.

What I've Done....

So, if you read my prevoius blog posting, you'll see that I had my laptop devirused. Now, I also have the iPod!

It is the latest iPod Nano, in silver (with black click wheel). It's still charging, and it's really thin. I bought it in Xtra Vision for £107.99.

Not only did I get my iPod, I also got something else. A game for my Xbox 360. Something called Fallout 3. I can't wait to play this game. I played Oblivion to death before I got LIVE. If this is anything like Oblivion with guns, this game should be a treat. I haven't played Fallout 1 or 2, so I really hope it doesn't assume that I know all about the universe. The game cost £19.99.

This was a great deal, and I am probably going to go and play Fallout 3 now. :)

Just hope it isn't a letdown :(.

That Was Great!

After writing all that about how I planned to blog much more often, I managed to fail. However, I do have an excuse. I got a virus on my laptop. I was downloading 'Doom' for my PC. It was not Doom at all, but it doomed my laptop.

After this, I had to have a computer specialist come around and repair the mess. The virus had corrupted my Microsoft Vista - so it was nearly useless. After two hours, I had all repaired. Only one problem remained. The WLAN switch on my Fujitsu Siemens had broken! Hurrah! Just what I need before Christmas. However, the expert had the idea of a USB Adapter. I no longer have to press the shortcut to turn WLAN on. The specialist had a Buffalo Wireless G AirStation. I bough the disc and the Adapter for £40. He even threw in Microsoft Publisher 2003. This was the one part of the Microsoft Office range I lacked - and of course every school homework required it. So now I have it. Three hours work, a Buffalo Adapter, AVG Anti Virus and Publisher '03 - £60. Not bad. Not bad at all. Even better, I still have enough cash left to buy my iPod Nano 8GB. Christmas could go alright after all.

I Really Need To Use This Blog More...

I was just glancing over my profile, and I noticed that I have barely used my blog. My most recent post was over a month ago! So from here on, I will try to blog a bit more often. And I mean it.
