GameStop allows GameCube game trade-ins because they're selling used GameCube games at GameStop for the full retail price. GameCube games can be played on the Wii, so GameStop is using nostalgia as a reason for keeping the prices inflated. It therefore doesn't surprise me that GameCube games would be accepted. However, in this case, I imagine the cashier didn't know of the restriction on what could be traded in, and unknowingly accepted invalid games.
Buy a system for the games it currently has, not those that are forthcoming. If you see that the selection currently offered for a system looks good, buy it. In my opinion, there are plenty of games of good quality available now for the PSP that you'll have plenty of things to purchase for quite a while.

Use PC Inspector Smart Recovery (freeware program) to see if you can get back some of your data. Don't use your card for anything until you've tried this program: saving anything more on your card will erase the old data. Considering you formatted your card, you may get nothing back, but you can certainly try.
The options given to control a player in Call of Duty: Roads to Victory are different and inferior to those found in Medal of Honor Heroes. It is more difficult to control how one aims and moves in Roads to Victory compared to Heroes. I enjoy playing Heroes still, despite beating the game, whereas I find it a chore to even play one level in Roads to Victory. Definitely get Medal of Honor: Heroes.
The price dropped to $170 only a year ago, which cut the price by $30. It took two years for the product to drop to that new price, so I don't think the price will be dropping soon. The core costs $170. To match the value of the silver pack, one must purchase a 1GB Memory Stick ($30) and Daxter (around $10 used / $20 new), raising the price above the Silver pack (and that's not even including the Family Guy UMD, which, while I find worthless, does have value to some people). In terms of monetary value, the Silver then ends up being a better buy, but not by much. Therefore, pick the core if you like the black color, and purchase the additional items necessary for gaming, or purchase the silver version if you like the silver version, and avoid having to make additional purchases. The cables are not included. There are two different cables available: composite, and component. A component video cable on an HDTV is required for gaming and can be used for movies, while a composite cable can be used on an SDTV for movie viewing only.
I don't quite understand why there is such hatred for GameStop. Their prices are pretty much the same as those I've found online, but with the added benefit of being local, requiring no shipping wait time, and staffed with game fans.
I applaud the attention to detail. It will aid in the resolution of the problem, if SONY wishes to repair the distortion. There is a chance they already know of this, but I do hope this was merely an unnoticed mistake.
