JRPGs aren't the only good RPGs anymore

Upon the words RPG , the first impression would be games like Final Fantasy , Star Ocean and several other JRPGs that exists in the market. However , as of late , there are mature storylines hitting the market and their sales are almost as good as well-known JRPG titles.

Here is an example , the Witcher : ( An in-depth description of it as well )

Basis of "The Witcher" :

The Witcher is adapted from a relatively famous novel by the name "The Last Wish" , which was the last novel of the Witcher Saga by it's writer , Andrezej Sapkwoski. The main lead , Geralt of Rivia , had supposedly died in this book but in the video game , The Witcher , he was mysteriously revived with his memories gone. Then , he moved across the lands to seek out the Salamandra who had taken the technology guarded by the last remaining Witchers that lived on , seeking out who he really was and seeking the one behind the recent events that are taking place.

Terms :

Witcher - Witchers are genetically modified humans who are immune to all forms of diseases , enchanced reflexes and is basically better than an average in every way possible. However , Witchers often face prosecution from normal humans despite the demand of the need of the Witchers , who are in turn Monster Slayers. Witchers also bear two swords , a steel sword which is rumoured to be used against humans and a silver sword which is used to slay monsters. Becoming a Witcher is also a difficult task , one would need years of practice and go through a total of 3 rituals that poses a large risk to one's mental and physical well-being.

Kaer Morhen - This is the home fortress of all Witchers. They are raised , trained and regrouped in this place which they call home. However , the Witchers come and go as they please in the distant past , as of now , there are only a handful of Witchers that live on.

Non-Humans : Non-Humans , ranging from Elves to Dryads , face prosecution from Humans , the most dominant race of the land. Some Non-Humans try to co-exist with humans while keeping their grudges amongst themselves while others joined a guerrila group to protest against the unfair judgement of non-humans.

Story Settings :

The story is set in the Middle Ages , where corruption and racism is common. Monsters feast upon the plains of war that was forged by the Great War that happened several years ago , along with the declining number of Witchers , the number of Monsters increased. However , there is one legendary Witcher that was friend to humans and non-humans alike , Geralt of Rivia , the White Wolf. He had achieved great feats with his prodigious skill , from slaying a Dragon to breaking a curse of a Striga , he was involved in politics yet it is also against his will to be so. However , he had disappeared when he tried to stop a riot and a similar man appeared once again in the woods near Kaer Morhen...

Gameplay :

The gameplay of The Witcher is that of a Point-and-Click Action game , yet , unlike most Point and Click games , The Witcher manages to bring in a smooth action-packed gameplay that definitely would not disappoint. However , it is not the gameplay itself that makes the game as great as it is but the actions and decisions one would have to make. Which ever decision you choose would never be truly good , nor truly evil , the grey spot that resides within every decision is definitely different from typical games which shows a clear-cut of black and white circumstances. The mature storyline and the corruption that resides within the game , your role as a Witcher is to be chosen by yourself , either to help the humans , the non-humans or stay neutral and help neither sides.

Other than a unique point and click system and an intriguing plotline , The Witcher has also several systems such as Alchemy , which you can brew potions to boost your combat capabilities. You can also use basic spells to aid you in combat but this is pretty much a stand-alone battle , it is rare to receive aid most of the time , even if you did , the aid tends to be weaker than yourself.

There are also three bars to place your eyes on carefully , your Health , your Stamina and lastly , your Poison bar. Health should be fairly obvious , your Stamina is needed to cast spells and execute special attacks , it would regenerate slowly over time while the poison bar would increase if you drink unnatural products , potions in other words.

Also , potions cannot be made out of thin air either , you need to gather materials. Either from plants or the monsters you had slain , or even materials bought from the market , they would help you out along your journey.

You may receive Side-Quests as well , which would greatly aid you in your missions. Usually , you may pick off contracts from the notice board outside Inns but you may need to find that particular character in question if you want to start a Quest. Once completed , you will be modestly awarded and sometimes , you may receive items as well.

Mini Games :

There are a variety of Mini Games , fist fights , dice or drinking. Fist Fights are simple and risk-free if your good at it. Drinking is a bit risky and you need to out-drink your opponent , if you got drunk and the opponent is a unreliable person , you might get robbed of your money. As of dice , it's a simple matter of luck and a bit of understanding , this is a quick way to either earn or lose your money.

Monsters :

As the game progresses , some monsters would disappear and with newer ones replacing it. Defeating monsters isn't a matter of dodging but the stats of Geralt , the potions you had brewed and the wise judgement you place into defeating a foe. Normal monsters are a drift in the park , though they might prove annoying at times. However , stronger foes , in other words , unique monsters , are relatively more difficult. Naturally , the game is simple if you play in Normal or Easy Mode but in Hard Mode , these monsters aren't easy to handle with.

Other than Monsters , you might have to pit yourself against humans at times.

Information :

In the game , you maypurchase scrolls , booksand several other things to aid you in your journey. You may also buy certain books to understand the plot. Talking to some people may expand your Archives.

Environment :

The environment changes as the story progresses , to give you an idea , you would go through an outskirt , a prison , a series of sewer passages , a city , a field , a humble village , a rioting city and lastly , a snow plain. Around you , there are offensive , neutral and friendly people and things. You may attack offensive and neutral targets but friendly units cannot be slain.

Bribing and Indecent Content :( :

In the game , if you had killed a city guard , some one might come after you. You may have to bribe the guard or engage in a difficult battle. Bribing is not only restricted to guards but some other people as well. There are also....err...mature themes that I don't think that would be appropriate to mention here either.

Generally , this would give you an idea of what The Witcher is like. There are also games like Dragon Age etc. etc.

Naturally , these games would appeal towards older gamers with their realistic moral system and dark atmosphere , which is a nice change from the typical black and white morality you find in JRPGs , so why not give one of these games a try?

Animes that ought to end early / continue on

Before I continue to the Part III of my Must Watch Anime blogs ( For Part I : Link , Part 2 : Link , just in case your wondering , I'm rating the Animes by their Genre so it might not neccessarily appeal to all )

Either way , here's a listing of Animes that I personally feel that ought to have ended earlyand somethat ought to keep on rolling.

Animes that ought to pack up early :

1. Hayate no Gotoku

For the first half of Season I , the jokes ARE amusing and the characters likeable and relatively moe IMO. However , as the episodes rolled on , it starts to turn cartoonish , somewhat childish and definitely lame in every way possible. No offence to those who liked this Anime , however.

2. Sora no Otoshimono

The developers never learn. Comedy Animes will end up lame if the theme of their jokes were recycled or if it drags out too long or it's simply lame as in itself. Sora no Otoshimono would work out fine for Ecchi fans but as for Comedy fans...well , let's just say some of the jokes are good , but the others can get pretty stupid. ( All Hail exploding under garments... )

3. Inuyasha

I don't care about the other long-running Animes , their storyline are after all, meant to be stretched out as it is ( Such as Hitman Reborn! ) . But Inuyasha on the other hand , ought to have stopped while it still can. It's tragic love story , perfect and smooth introduction , a likeable cast of characters ( If you exclude some of 'em here and there ) and unique concept makes it a decent Anime one way or the other. But even the most high quality of pelts would break when you stretch it out. Also , the lack of sacrifices and deaths of the good guys annoys me. However , it's still a decent Anime none the less.

4. K-ON!

Curse me if you like , but that's how I feel. K-ON! lives off it's moe cast of characters and that's that , the storyline is slightly above average if you must insist. Like Comedy , moe-ness have a short lifetime...though I do kinda like how Mio tripped over...never mind.( Not that I hate K-ON! , it's one of my fav Animes but it does get weary after sometime so to preserve it , take a break from K-ON! once in a while before watching it again )

5. Chaos ; Head

It's in the Must Watch List in my Blog , but that doesn't mean I'm entirely satisfied with it. Chaos ; Head have an atmosphere for the first half of the Anime that can even compete with Monster and Death Note but they JUST have to ruin it by turning it into an Action Anime. I guess it can't be helped since that's how the Visual Novel goes.

6. Disgaea

The game was awesome in every way and every sense but the Anime is horrible...But I think it would be interesting to see Disgaea 2 as an Anime though. Well , there IS a Manga of Disgaea 2 , however.

Animes that ought to keep rolling on :

1. Code Geass : Hangyaku no Lelouch

To be honest , Season II was a bit rushed. I mean , for the WHOLE of the first Season , Lelouch did nothing but spread his influence and fight in Japan. But suddenly , in Season II , he had transformed from a Demon into a God , he got out of Japan , moved into China , spreaded his influence even further despite his disappearance and somehow concluded his tale. The miracles he had created is equally astounding but not as good as the previous Season , which was nicely stretched out....and Lelouch's tale ended way too quickly :( It ought to be a Trilogy for Lelouch , no?

2. Chrome Shelled Regios

Chrome Shelled Regios have a great cast of characters , strong foundation and is virtually perfect everywhere else but it just have to lack proper progression. Some of the points were poorly explained and could be elaborated , if it was a bit longer , I'm pretty sure it would've become a legend.

3. Fate Project

The Fate Project , or Fate / Stay Night , have an Anime that had explained only ONE Arc and possibility of the Visual Novel. Sure , there is a Movie coming up soon that would describe the Unlimited Blade Works Arc but there is still one Arcleft , the darkest Arc amongst them all , Heaven's Feel. There is also a prequel , Fate / Zero , which is a Light Novel. Fate / Zero ought to be epic if it was turned into an Anime though... The Servants are Saber ( King Arthur ) , Archer ( Gilgamesh ) , Assassin ( True Assassin ) , Berserker ( Lancelot of the Lake ) , Rider ( Alexander the Great ) , Caster ( Can't remember his name :P I'm pretty sure he was related to the Jeanne D'Arc legend though ) and Lancer ( Can't remember his name either , but he have a pretty sad fate :( ) . Fate / Zero is also the tale of Shiro's adoptive father.

Well , I might expand this list...but I think I better get on with my Must Watch List first :P

Top 10 Must Watch Animes - Part II

Meh , I seriously wonder what should I add for Part II

Well , here's a roughly made list

Action / Gore :

1. Hellsing

Hmm...I guess I'm resorting to cheap tactics now :P Either way , Hellsing is definitely action-packed and filled with bad-as* characters. Though it does get a bit disgusting at times to be honest...I feel queasy at some of the scenes. Note that there are also two versions of Hellsing.

Ecchi :

2. Kanokon

I don't watch much Ecchi Animes but Kanokon have to be one of the most Ecchi Animes I had ever seen....well , if you exclude Ladies vs Butlers , Omamori Himari and several other Animes that I might add into the list in the future :P

Sports

3. Slam Dunk

I know I'm moving a bit too far away from the more "recent" Anime list that I want to make but I have no other choice :P Other than Slam Dunk , I was pretty much bored off by other sports Anime...Well , I guess I still have several Sports Anime up my sleeves for the next listing. Either way , Slam Dunk , despite it's age , have excellent artwork and the limbs of the characters move in an extremely realistic manner. There are also comedic sequences at times as well.

Moe

4. Shakugan no Shana

Once again , I tried to resist the temptation of adding K-ON! into the list and ended up doing a lame decision. Well , it's not ENTIRELY untrue , however. Go across the web , find the comments on Shana from Shakugan no Shana and you'd very oftenly find the words "cute" along with it from the viewers. Her Tsunderi personality , her stature , her jealous reactions at times and her voice...it's too much for an average human to take in XD ( Don't worry , I'll try to refrain from making lousy decisions in the future :P )

Action

5. Needless

Speaking of bad as* characters , Needless have one heckuva a bad as* main character. Frowning while smiling at the same time must be tough. ( Pun intended ) Well , just watch it , it's pretty interesting to a certain extent. Either way , the heroes are supposedly to be rebels...well , their something like that anyway.

School

6. School Rumble

Ever annoyed by the fact that some Animes were labelled under the School Genre and it turned out to be something else? Sure , the main characters are students but in the end , all we had seen are fighting , fighting and more fighting. Hell. Well , School Rumble , one of the few Animes out there , does actually focus on the School theme. Might not neccessarily appeal to all , however.

Video - Game

7. Tears to Tiara

Another excellent Video-Game based Anime. Tears to Tiara have an interesting plotline which is loosely influenced by mythology , legends and the Athurian Pendragon Saga. Oh yeah , the artwork was great , too.

Go Octavia go!! XD ( She's one of my favourite Tears to Tiara character )

Comedy

8. Baka to Test

All hail stupidity , nose-bleeds , hilarious fan-service sequences and a perv character who tries to take shots under the skirt once in a while ( and a male character who looks dangerously close to being a female ). Baka to Test is definitely at the height of stupidity and comedy , the jokes can turn out to be either lame or make you laugh your mouth off , thus , a must watch.

Sorry to burst your bubble , that's a guy. XD Well , he does have a twin sister , however , so I suppose you can keep hoping?

Suspense / Mystery

9. Chaos Head

The first 2/3 of Chaos Head was actually really good , the atmosphere , the questions you would gain in mind and the mystery of the shadowy parts of the storyline would practically make you burst. However...for the remaining 1/3...well , let's just say it had turned into a typical Action Anime :(

Mecha

10. Full Metal Panic

Just some random Animated pic I found XD Either way , if you rid of obvious choices such as the Gundam saga , this is one of the few choices you would end up with. A cold military bred teenage soldier + a typical Tsundere = Amusing results XD The Mecha design and battles were pretty cool as well , though of course , nothing beats the space stimulative combat of Gundam eh?

Top 10 Must Watch Animes - Part I

Title says it all , I wouldn't be providing names of Animes such as Bleach or Inuyasha nor any long running Animes , however. I'll also try to provide a representative from each Genre ( Action , Comedy , Suspense / Thriller / Gore , Romance etc. etc. )

Action / Political :

1. Full Metal Alchemist

Funny , quirky , yet serious and intense at the same time. Full Metal Alchemist has finely delivered political affairs , alchemy ( magic ) , comedy and the suspense of the atmosphere without overlapping nor smearing either of it's content and has finely delivered a storyline filled with plot twists , thus , the audience would never befailed to be surprised.

Romance / Slice of Life :

2. Spice and Wolf

Who says that romance Animes need to utilise the words "love" in a touching scene? The characters often use the words "like" as a passing remark but not a single utter of the word "love" in an obvious scene that suggests romance. However , the soft , sweet romance in this Anime definitely would not disappoint , especially in Season II where we see the characters go through simple emotional struggles yet is able to play a chord in your heart at the same time.

War / Political / Action :

3. Code Geass : Hangyaku no Lelouch

Code Geass , some points of it are obviously Death Note rip-offs such as the restrictions of the Geass but that doesn't stop it from being an Anime of epic proportions. The characters aren't perfect and once again , we'r thrown into two different sort of justice involved in the struggle between two forms of power. The first Season is Zero spreading his influence and power in Japan and the second season gets a bit more political and concludes Lelouch's conquest. Interestingly , the side characters play a certain extent of role in the Anime as well. This is also a nice twist from CLAMP's usual works and is a must watch.

Comedy :

4. Seitokai no Ichizon

'

I found an Animated pic so I might as well use it XD

Well , this Anime mainly lives off it's Comedy content. The story only starts to kick in , in like the 3/4 part of the Anime. It's recommended that you watch plenty of well-known Animes before watching this otherwise you won't get half of the puns. Baka to Test is a really good Comedy as well so do take a look.

Music :

5. Macross Frontier

When the words "Music Anime" is involved , I'm pretty sure the first impression that comes by is K-ON! so I might as well select something else :P

Either way , the Mecha design definitely won't appeal to Gundam fans since the Mecha is like...stuck in their airplane forms most of the time but the music , especially Don/t be Late by May/n makes the battle sequences 2x more epic than usual.

Action :

6. Fate / Stay Night

Fate / Stay Night...well , I really have a dilemina on what to put for the Action sector. Either way , Fate / Stay Night poses a delicate balance between storyline and action sequences in the limited amount of episodes it have which is obviously not enough to tell the tale of the original storyline , like most other Animes out there. The action sequences isn't all that impressive , for that you might as well watch Gundam or long running Animes. However , the general storyline is great and the cast of characters are likeable.

Game Based Anime :

7. Tales of the Abyss

Amongst all the Game-Based Animes , Tales of the Abyss have to be the most appealling , even amongst it's Tales Anime bretherens. Sorry Persona fans! XD

Mystery / Suspense :

8. Monster

One of the most suspending and interesting Mystery Animes of it's age and time. As of late , there are many mysterious and horrendous crimes in place and a doctor found out that the person behind it was a boy he had seen a long time ago in an operation room , where he was shot directly in the head. So who exactly is this boy?

Gore :

9. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

You'd probably think I'll put Elfen Lied but doing that is way too boring for the list. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni started off innocent like any other Animes out there in existence. However , as the plot progresses , the audience would have to put themselves through disgusting murder to suicide scenes and even seeing the culprit indulging themselves in their acts at times. It's like seeing the School Days ending sequence again and again and again through out the Anime...oh boy.

Harem :

10. Princess Lover!

For once , I think I managed to enjoy a Harem Anime. Well , if your wondering , I'm do not consider Clannad , AIR and Kanon as Harems since the ending and the cahracter's decisions clearly shows nothing Harem-like. Either way , for once , the main character isn't a useless bum in this Harem Anime , he can even use a katana...The conclusion of the story is fairly interesting as well I dare say.

Well , for Part II , I'll do other Genres and repeat certain Genres if I have to so don't worry if your favourite Anime isn't in the list :P

Spice and Wolf Review ( One of my new fav Animes! ) *Edited*

Spice and Wolf Review :

Again , this is a copy and paste from another review of mine from another site , though I would attempt to alter it a bit. I would add some screenshots as well if possible.

Story Introduction ==============================================================

The Story dates back to the Middle Ages , circulating around a simple but experience Merchant by the name Kraft Lawrence. He happened to pass by the town of Pasroe , which once worshipped a Wolf God of Harvest but due to technological improvements in the village , they now mock the God they once respected. After a sequence of events , Lawrence heard an odd sound coming from his cart. He cautiously opened his cart and seen neither a bandit nor a wild beast but a girl in her teenage years with wolf ears and tail. After waking up , she introduces herself as the Sage Wolf Horo . Wise Wolf of Yoitsu ( Can't really remember which ) , the God of Harvest that the villagers once worshipped. Lawrence was cynical about her proclaimed identity but after witnessing her powers and listening to her tale , he decided to help Horo to the Northen lands to find her home , thus , the two embarked on a journey filled with difficulties and perhaps the sprouting of a new relationship.

Overall :

Can't believe I forgot to add this sector...*slaps myself in the face*
This is a really...unexpectedly good "Slice-of-Life" and "Romance" Anime.
Generally , the terms of business , trades and transaction is applied in this Anime and the world of the Middle Ages is seen through the eyes of a simple Merchant. There are things such as the corruption of the church , lies and deceit , marketing and the rising and falling of values of goods and products. Sure , all these are actually quite difficult to understand but their generally true so you can add this to your stockpile of knowledge. ( I did a bit of research and I applied for business coursesbefore ) Generally , Season I is filled with the business difficulties Lawrence encountered and how he managed to overcome them in a fairly realistic way if you ignore the Fantasy settings in place. In Season II , we get to see more of the struggles that Horo and Lawrence face and Horo starts to doubt whether they should really be together.
It may sound boring , but take a look , you might be as surprised as I am.

Character Sypnosis ( Main Leads ) ======================================================

Character Sypnosis : ( Main Leads )

Kraft Lawrence :
An experienced Merchant who is in his 20s. He goes from town to town to trade goods in order to earn a living. His fairly well-known amongst the Southern continent as a Merchant and have multiple business partners. He also likes to share business deals and ways with others.

Personality :
Lawrence , initially , is fairly business minded and settles things as profits and losses. He does not even seriously take his business partners as friends. However , after meeting Horo and going through hardships and difficulties , he gradually begins to get enlightened and with each difficulty in place , he becomes a better man. He is also fairly cool-headed and knowledgeable for his age.

Horo :
A mysterious girl who appears to be in her teenage years with a strange pair of ears and a wolf tail. She is a Param God , a God once worshipped by the people. But she was neglected by the people as they need her no long and was forgotten , thus , she seeked to travel back to her homeland. Horo is also a bit of a glutton at times despite her figure - *ahem* - and she can transform into a large wolf by eating grains or by drinking blood. Oddly enough , she is even more skilled in the business industry compared to Lawrence and helped him out many times , but she too , ended up relying on him in her own way.

Personality :
She is unexpectedly proud , but not easily offended by trivial insults. She also enjoys teasing Lawrence and tends to pretend to be "hurted" and "depressed" to see that "cute" look on Lawrence's face. She is also cunning and good with the way of words , thus , helping Lawrence plenty of times in his transactions.

Horo hugging her beloved tail while sleeping , she tends to comb it and she often takes pride in the quality of her tail

Artwork =====================================================================

The character artwork is good , but the environmental artwork is even better. The artwork of the environment is really impressive , the urban areas looks fairly musty in certain corridors and the details of the buildings and city is drawn to the utmost detail. The forests and fields , too , are well drawn and the artist actually shaded the barks of the tree in an extremely realistic manner. The clothings aren't exaggerated either , since their meant for peasents after all. Interestingly , the characters doesn't really look out of place in these settings most of the time. Naturally , there are also differences in the character design compared to the Light Novel. Though I must say that Horo looks more like a fox in her human form rather than a wolf :(

Horo teasing Lawrence about his facial hair

At times she may be teasing Lawrence but once tears drip out , things get serious...darn,she looks unbearably moe

Hmm...can't exactly remember what this scene's about

Sound Review ==================================================================

Music :

Well , the Openings and Endings are more or less...soothing I suppose. It took me some time but it gradually got more...appealling to my ears as I listened to it for an extended amount of time. Well , I have to admit , it does play a tune in my heart that's for sure , it sounds as though the singer is singing about a distant past tainted with sadness but brimming with happiness as well... Well , that's what it seems like to me anyway.

Seiyu / Voice Actors :

The Seiyu for Lawrence is Jun Fukuyama , the one who has also played Kei from Special A and Lelouch vi Brittania from Code Geass , well , his voice is easy to recognise after all.
The Seiyu for Horo is Ami Koshimizu , who played cahracters like Tenma from School Rumble , Kallen from Code Geass ( Much to my surprise ) and....and...what the hell? Yuuri from Death Note. She is also playing Sanae of Ladies Vs Butlers , one of the recent releases in the Anime industry. Well , at least we can tell she is good in manipulating her voice eh?

After a deal was done . Horo grabs some buns to eat but chokes on it. She later explains that the cheeks she have in this form is a bit of a hassle and that wolves don't chew when they eat XD

Others=======================================================================

This is certainly an unexpectedly good Anime which would definitely appeal to Romance , Slice of Life and possibly , Mystery fans. Either way , generally , this Anime is about the Middle Ages , the corruption that exists during that time , trading , a simple romance sprouting between two characters and naturally , several moral values that ought to be learnt. Season II is particularly heart warming to be honest and this is certainly an Anime that you ought to try out. There are also several facts that you can learn in the Anime as well.

The story is also constantly changing , it's something like Inuyasha , Bleach , Shakugan no Shana , where the cast is changing but the main leads remain the same. This Anime have some pretty nice plot twists as well.

Summary of Season I :

After meeting Horo by coincidence , the two began moving to the North , encountering difficulties that would potentially endanger their pockets , freedom and even their lives along the way. The bond between them grew stronger and stronger and Lawrence began to build up more experience from his failures.

Summary of Season II :

After arriving in the Northen regions , Lawrence decided to find a hint on where Horo's homeland might be. However , the two faces challenges and circumstances of which they might be torn apart , this is definitely an emotional improvement compared to Season I.

Overall ( Others ) :

Humor :
Well , there isn't exactly any form of decent humor content but the...moe-ness of Horo x Lawrence situations is enough to make one grin :D

Romance :
The Romance involved isn't mushy at all and it ain't overdone but it's definitely heart warming and heart wrenching at the same time in Season II. Either way , the Romance thing sprouted early in the plotline so you don't have to get annoyed by the "getting together at last" sort of thing you often see in other Romance Anime and overall , it can be considered unique compared to other typical romance plotlines. So...who needs Dragonaut for Romance anyway!? XD This Anime packs enough of a punch for this sector.

Fan-Service :
Hmm...Once in a while Horo isn't wearing...*cough* Either way , nothing inappropriate is shown so don't worry about it too much :P

Special Episode :
Meh , Spice and Wolf have one of the lamest Special Episode. Well , the first one was really useful , I learnt a lot about burning wine ( Whiskey ) , black bread and white bread but the second Special Episode is nothing but basic warm-ups.... But then again , I guess it's fine since Horo is the one doing it XD

Trivia :
- Spice and Wolf is adapted originally from a Light Novel of the same name
- There are various co-releases of it such as the Manga series , the Anime series and even a Visual Novel game is made out of it... ( Man , I'm aching to try it out ) There is also a Voice Drama / Radio Programme based on it.
- Season III might be coming out , judging from the Credits sequence.

Watch it!! Otherwise Horo would get angry about this~

Oh yeah , here's a picture of her wolf form

News : A pair of parents losing their child due to PC addiction.

Well , I have been posting too much gaming and Anime blogs so I thought I would do a blog on the news once in a while.

Recently , I heard that a pair of parents in Korea , the male is in his 40s while the mother is in her 20s or so , with a child whose 5 months old. Due to the fact that their getting addicted to their computers , they neglected their 5 months old child and only fed their child with milk once in a day. Due to their neglection of the welfare of their child , their baby had literally starved to death , much to their dismay.

So what do you think of this incident?

:( Psp's O button is acting up

First the PC and now the PSP. The O Button on my PSP won't work at all unless I pound on it and as most of the PSP holders ought to know by now that the O Button is used to select options on the Main Menu and is ofcouse , a neccessary button for gaming..Well , it's starting to act up as well in various ways as well. Well , at least I still managed to hunt down my last Hypnocatrice on Monster Hunter before turning off my PSP in despair.

Either way , recently , I have been watching several Animes..

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

Who says being an idiot is a bad thing? Baka to Test is centered around a school that utilises an extremely interesting system. Students can summon Summoned Beings , which would be a representative of their overall grades and if your grades are good , naturally , your Summoned Being would be powerful as well. Of course, to engage in combat , you need a teacher's permission to create a field which you can fight in ( Though things start to change a bit later on ) Our main character is Yoshii , whose definitely a "baka" ( idiot , stupid , moron...whatever term you have for it ) in every sense but as his results are that bad , his Summoned Being behaves extremely differently as well. His Summoned Being can come into contact with physical objects but whenever his Summoned Being gets whacked , he experiences it as well. Yoshii is also part of the F Clas* , one of the weakest Clas* in the school in terms of grades and an intellectual girl got into his Clas* because of an incident. This is certainly a Comedy that one ought not to miss.

07 - Ghost

Teito Klein , a military student who was also a former battle"sklein" ( German for slave ) is relatively cold and indifferent but he have a close friend by the name Mikage. The two are closer than brothers but due to an incident , Teito have to flee from the Military with the help of Mikageand he crashed into one of the Bishops of the 7th District. They took him back to the Church and Teito stood on his guard and even attempted to attack them using his Zaiphon ( This is a mysterious power that comes in the forms of words , reflecting the person's emotions as well ) but after awhile , his forced to stay in the 7th District. After a while , Teito managed to find out more about his heritage , the mysterious Eye of Mikhael which once belonged to the destroyed Kingdom of Raggs , the Kors and the 7 Ghosts.

Well , I haven't really started on this yet but I intend to ( Today ) and well , there are still alot of Animes in the waiting list ( Or those that I had watched half-way ) but I intend to finish watching these first. Either way...the character is unbearably moe , no?

Monster Hunter Freedom - Chief's Quest Part III - Elder Dragon

This Blog is devoted entirely to the Elder Dragons , Lao Shan Lung and Shen Gao Ren. Prepare for a heckuva ride with these monsters.

Basic Information ==============================================================

Elder Dragons :

Congrats on taking down the Tigrex by the way.. Either way...

Elder Dragons are significantly more uniquecompared to the other Wyverns you have faced but definitely not harder provided that you have the proper gear. To make them trip over , your attacks are to be focused on the head rather than the legs , this will stun them for at least 2 seconds. Note that Elder Dragons aren't Gods so that you shouldn't hestitate to bring along Flash Bombs as they DO work. Each Elder Dragon also have a passive skill of their own or what I will call " Aura " for the purpose of this guide. Most Elder Dragons are susceptible to poisoning so do keep that in mind.

Keep in mind that most Elder Dragons would flee upon the last 25 minutes of the Quest and when that happens , you will have to continue your battle on the next Quest. Don't worry , the Elder Dragon's HP won't be restored.

The Large Sword that needs Elder Dragon Bones to Mine :

Elder Dragon Bones may be a rare material at first but after quite some time , they would become a common material to you. Out of the Sword , you can get Dark Pieces and Dark Stones which can be used to craft your very first Dragon Element Weapon or the Black Armor set. It is preferable that you choose the Weapon that you like and then use it as most Elder Dragons are weak towards the Dragon Element.

To start off...the easiest and earliest Elder Dragon you would fight against is...

Kashula Doara =================================================================

Attacks :

- Flies backwards while shooting a jet of wind

- Shoots a jet of wind

- Jumps backwards and growls

- Flies and then may lead to these attacks...

- Turns 360 degrees slowly while shooting high pressure wind spontaneously ( Air )

- Continuously shoot spheres of wind ( Air )

- Whips you with it's tail ( Air )

- Swipes you from the air ( Air )

- Claws you

- Charges forward

- Leaps backward

- Roars

Weakness :

Dragon

Breakable :

Horn

"Aura" :

Wind Barrier ( Causes it to be almost impossible to get near )

Tail :

Can be sliced off

Signs of Anger :

Misty breathe

Strategy :

This is actually very simple , particularly so if your using long ranged weapons and long reaching weapons. Essentially , poisoning it is a MUST as it very rarely lets down it's wind barrier , usually beforea powerful wind attack. Most of the time , the shield is up and attacking it is very difficult. When that happens , use the Poison Throwing Knife which was provided and make sure you hit for the love of God , otherwise your in for a rough fight. Otherwise , make sure you hit the head and cause it to trip over , if you managed to damage it to a certain extent , it would be unable to place up a Wind Barrier so even when you had failed to slay it on the first try , the second and third tries would definitely be forgiving.

Kirin ========================================================================

Attacks :

- Flails it's horn and nothing seems to be happen for a while , but lightning later strikes at your position

- Flails it's horn and lightning appears around it / in front of it / right in it

- Jumps like an Anteka , may cause damage if it touches you

- Charges at you with it's horn lowered

- Flails it's horn a bit and stays idle , perfect chance for an attack

Weakness :

Dragon

"Aura" :

None , but it can project electricity and is extremely fast

Signs of Anger :

Head glows white

Softest Part :

Head >>> Rest of the Body

Strategy :

A Kirin isn't a Dragon but it is labelled as an Elder Dragon due to it's mysterious nature. Even the Quests are uncommon to come by so snatch your chance if you happened to spot this Quest , it's materials fetches an incredibly high price as well come to think of it. Either way , a Kirin does not require you to drag out for several long battles before it can be slain , nor does it retreat upon the 25th minute. However , it is not to be taken lightly due to it's quick nature and unpredictable lightning strikes and you can only damage it properly by hitting it's head , unless you have a ranged or unnaturally sharp weapon of course. Either way , it's wise to bring along some bombs if your weapon isn't sharp enough and try to use the bombs only when it is idle. Attack fiercely and avoid wisely , if you avoid all the time , your not gonna land a single hit. Note that it uses it's bolts wisely as well , if your of an extremely far distance , it'll either charge or send long ranged voltage at you. If you are too close , it too will use close ranged lighting strikes. Make use of this as it takes some time to charge and release the volt , but note that when it is angry , it's lightning strikes would last an unnaturally long time and it would tend to recover from it's previous attack before it even stops. Thus , despite it's size , it's not an enemy to be taken lightly of.

Teostra and Lunastra ==============================================================

Attacks :

- Lowers itself a bit then breathes fire ( If it's HP is lower , the range and radius is dramatically increased )

- Swipes it's tail on the floor behind it , may cause explosions as well

- Snaps it's jaw and then there would be a 360 degrees explosion around it ( First time : Short Range , Second time : Mid Range , Third Time : Long Range then it loops )

- Flies

- Breathes fire ( Aerial )

- Strikes from the Air ( Aerial )

- Tail whip ( Aerial )

- Charges forward

- Claws you

- Leaps backwards

- Roars

- Pounces forward

Weakness :

Dragon . Water / Ice

Breakable :

Horn

Tail:

Can be Sliced off

Sign of Anger :

Misty breathe

Aura :

Fire Mist

Drops :

Gets bombed ( Not too sure about this )

Strategy :

Oh boy... A Teostra and Lunastra are a pain in the as* The Fire Mist they emit drains off your health if you do not have the Fire Resistance Skill and even if you have a Cool Drink , it's pretty much pointless. However , ironically , a Kashula Armor Set would prove very useful against this foe as it increases Fire Res ( To make it work , add some Jewels ) . A Kashula is easy to hunt so don't worry about that. The attacks you have to look out for is it's breathe attack as it can reach a large radius , it's 360 degrees explosion attack which is quite difficult to avoid and it's charge attack. Note that it's charge would be directed at the direction your facing so when it charges , quickly turn to another direction to avoid it. Note that destroying their horns would stop their Fire Mist , poisoning works for a while as well but it seems to recover fairly quickly from poisoning. You might also want to slice of it's tail to make life easier for yourself. Oh yeah , note that when a Teostra , Lunastra and Kashula leaps backward , it's the perfect chance to attack as they would usually just growl there.

Chameleos :

Attacks :

- Bams it's tail on the ground , causing it to be impossible to approach and after the 3-5th time it lands it's tail , it would shoot out it's tongue

- Raises itself and emits a gas on a specific spot ( Causes you to dramatically lose Stamina if hitted )

- Spits a slimy ball of some sort that reduces your defence if hitted

- Suddenly shoots itself skywards and emits a poisonous gas all around it ( Difficult to avoid if your too close to it )

- Charges forward

- Whips it's tongue left and right

- Claws you

Weakness :

Fire . Dragon

Softest Parts :

Chest / Head >>> Legs >>> Tail >>> Wing / Body

Aura :

Almost perfect invisibility

Signs of Anger :

Boss Monster Music starts playing

Drops :

Sonic Bomb it when it's invisible

Strategy :

This is one of the most annoying Elder Dragons. It's attacks are slow and easy to avoid but the problem is... it's near perfect invisibility skills. There are multiple ways to counter measure against it but their not all lasting methods , not at all. The methods are using a Sonic Bomb on it , but it's hard to see where it is in the first place , secondly , you can throw a Smoke Bomb , this would reveal itself for a few seconds.A Paintball can only roughly tell you about it's Zone location but not it's specific location. A Chameleos also reveals itself WHEN it is attacking and outlines of it may be seen once in a while. It's body is also hard to penetrate and the only way to hit it properly is it's front part , which is the part where it mainly attacks...sheesh , what a pain in the neck. Oh yeah , note that it's tongue attacks may steal your items so don't bring anything valuable. Ironically , you can use the Teostra and Lunastra materials to make a powerful fire weapon to take it down. I made a Saber , since I'm a Long Sword Specialist but it's pretty much up to you to make what you want. Note that this Dragon doesn't trip over easily as well.

Defending a Fortress :

This is a very unique Quest and you will be pitted against a gigantic monster. The Monster would not set it's eyes upon you but the Fortress you need to protect. Each hit would reduc 10 % of it's health so you need to stun it at the appropriate times. But note that a giant feet means a gigantic damage so do avoid their legs.

DEFEND THE FORTRESS - Lao Shan Lung :

Attacks : ( That hurts you )

- If your stepped on...well , it sure hurts , but most of the times you'd just trip due to the impact

- It's sweeping tail is extremely annoying , if your hitted , you'd be sent flying forward so time yourself when to run behind it

- Bite ( Only if your on the bridge when it's passing through )

Weakness :

Dragon

Softest Parts :

Exposed Back >>> Belly >>> Head / Neck >>> Rest of the body

Strategy :

A Lao Shan Lung is no drift in the park if your weapon is weak , which is likely to be the case so the only option is to drive it off. To stall some time , make sure you continuously aim for it's head , it would cause it to growl in pain for a few seconds before continuing. Then , run up the cliff of 3 specific zones and land on it's back , note that if your on a bridge , it would raise itself to bite you down. Also take care of the falling boulders. When your on it's back , try to stay on it as long as possible and plant the Anti Dragon Bomb that is provided. Then , carve all the materials you would like then wait for impact. Upon explosion , you would be sent flying with minimal or no damage at all but towards the Lao Shan Lung , it's like a nuke to it. When it reaches the Fort , quickly use the Cannons , go back to base , find a Cannon Ball and grab it and port it past a pack of Iodromes. Wait for it to approach ( It ought to be fairly visible in the mist ) then fire!! Then , use the ballista and wait for it to come nearer. Once it's near enough , press the switch on top of the Fort to use the Dragonatour to deal even more damage then run down and keep attacking it's head or belly to stall for time. If possible , slay it. Note that when your fighting against Giant Monsters , your Felyne cannot accompany you.

Note that in your bed area , you can collect a Cannon Ball ( Which is to be carried like an Egg ) and Ballista Ammo which is not in the Supply Box.

DEFEND THE FORTRESS - Shen Gao Ren

Attacks : ( That can hurt you )

- It's legs will send you flying... It moves it's legs one by one so just take note of that.

Softest Parts :

- Legs >>> Body >>> Claw

Strategy :

A really annoying enemy.. Well , either way , your main target ought to be it's legs. Strike it with all your might and it ought to be stunned for a while. Damaging it would cause it to go red and the maximum for that is two times before it goes back to normal. Do that to all it's legs then send the final blow on one of the legs and it ought to topple. Then , send in a flurry of your attacks before it rises again. Time your attacks as well , right before it hits the Fortress , make sure you learn how to stun these monsters at the appropriate timing. Stunning it would cause it to double back.

In the Town , you can find Ballista Ammo. ( Just Spam O , I can't really say the specific area )

Since I'm replaying from scratch it'll take some time till I reach these monsters and I would like to watch more Animes... *indecent content appears on screen* Hmm? What , that's nothing...you must be hallucinating. * Covers the screen with newspaper *

Monster Hunter Freedom - Chief's Quest Part II

This is the Part II of my Guide to killing the boss monsters in MHF2 / MHFU. This Guide would cover the Gypceros , Gendrome , Iodrome , Velocidrome ,Monoblos , Diablos , Gravios ,Basarios , Shogun Ceantaur , Rathalos , Rathian , Yian Garuga , Queen Vespoid and then the almighty Tigrex. I'll also discuss a bit more deeply about the weapons in this guide then choose a weapon to master , since fighting against the Elder Dragons are no walk in the park so it's best to focus on one weapon from now on. But if you don't mind , try to master at least 3 , 2 melee and 1 ranged.

Weapons & More Info=====================================================================

Element :

From here on , Element plays a critical role in your role as a Hunter. With Elemental damage , your opponent would gain alot more damage , even more so if their weak against that Element. There are 5 Elements , Fire , Water , Ice , Thunder and last but not least , Dragon. You can check out a monster's weaknesses after hunting them by checking out the armor they can get crafted into but otherwise , try to predict it's weakness. For example , a Blagonga lives in the snowy mountains so it's only logical for it to be weak against Fire.

Affinity :

I'm sure you'd be seeing some strange Affinity stuff by now in some weapon stats. Affinity is something like a Critical Hit % . Your damage would be dramatically increased in some blows if your Affinity is Positive. But if it's a Negative digit , some attacks may be weaker. But to counter-balance the situation , Weapons of Negative Digits have higher Base Damage while Weapons of Positive Digits are the exact opposite.

Iron or Bone? :

Melee Weapons can be made from either Ore based materials or Bone based materials. Ore based weapons tend to have higher sharpness while Bone based materials ( Bone can mean pelts and skin as well ) tend to have elemental damage. There is also a mixture of both in most weapons but don't worry about this too much , just go with the flow.

Merits of Dual Swords :

Special Dual Swords can have two differentelements at the same time. This makes it cheaper to utilise since you don't have to craft weapons just to fight a specific monster. However , such weapons are rare and is a hassle to make and upgrade.

This isn't an element... :

Well , there are often status effects etched on your weapon rather than elemental effects. Such as Poison , Sleep and Paralysis. Despite the fact that they aren't Elements , they can prove extremely useful as some monsters such as the Kashula Doara would be easier to fight against if poisoned and causing a monster to be paralysed and fall asleep may just save your life at times.

The Merits of causing Sleep Effect :

When Monsters are asleep and when they aren't being captured , you can deal alot more damage to them. This means this is the perfect time to plant all the dangerous bombs you have in your bag on them. I assure you , it would be a really painful experience for them. Naturally , this applies for you as well so try not to get hitted by some sleep effects.

Unblockable Attacks :

Some attacks CANNOT be blocked , such as a Gravios Gas attack. But with special skills , you might be able to guard them but normally , you should just avoid them.

What an annoying tail... :

Well , if your thinking about this and your using a slicing based weapon , rejoice. You can potentially slice some of the Wyvern or Dragon's tail off and as thoughthedeveleporsare congratulating you for doing that , you can carve materials off it.

Parameters :

In every Armor , other than providing Base Defence and Elemental Defence and Weaknesses , you can also increase your Parameter points. Everytime a Parameter hits a 10 , it would become a passive skill of some sort. If it hits 15 - 20 , it's effects would be even stronger and more effective.

Common Tactic for Faster Foes -Great Sword :

This is a pretty...easy tactic. Just keep your sword , run , draw it out and wham the monster when the time is right and keep it again.

Monsters ==============================================================================

Gypceros

Attacks :

- Spits poison forward

- Rushes forward , may spit poison as it runs forward

- Snaps it's jaws several times and sends a flash of light around it to stun you. It can be blocked but hard to dodge. ( You may dodge it easily by running away from it and press X )

- Flies backwards and then lands

- Begins pecking forward like a chicken

- Swings it's tail around 360 degrees

- Feints Death and then awakens if hitted or that your too close

( Sorry , I didn't fight this thing for quite some time so I may not be able to remember all it's attacks. )

Weakness :

Fire

Breakable :

Horn ( By breaking it , it cannot use it's Flash Attack efficiently )

How to Anger :

Reduce it's HP

How to Get Drops :

Attack it when it's Feinting Death

Softest Parts :

Head >>> Tail >>> Leg >>> Wing / Body

Anger Signals :

A purple mists surrounds it's mouth

Dying Signals :

Limps

Strategy :

No special strategy is needed to fight against it. Just use your normal skills as you would fight against any average Wyvern. However , take great care of it's poison and flash attacks. It can also potentially steal your items so make sure your not carrying anything valuable.

Gendrome / Iodrome / Velocidrome

Attacks :

- ( Just refer to the Giadrome Guide in Part I )

- Gendromes and Velocidromes do not have breathe attacks

Dying Signs :

Flees

Strategy :

Sorry I didn't add these "dromes" creatures in Part I , which is meant for rookie hunters. Either way , use the same tactic as you did to slay the Giadrome. Note that Gendrome does not spit anything but it may cause paralysis with it's strikes. Iodromes can spit poison while Velocidrome does not have any special attributes.

Monoblos / Diablos :

Attacks :

- Charges forwards , may follow you while charging but only to a certain degree ( RUN FOR IT!! XD )

- Charges and when it may lift it's head up and send you flying ( Ouch )

- Charges and then swings it's head around

- Roars ( This ain't no joke , Diablos and Monoblos' roars can reach incredible distances )

- Swings tail left and right on the ground , a 180 degrees radius damage behind it

- Swings tail 360 degrees

- Swings it's head around

- Twitches and roars a bit

- Digs underground and appears roughly about 30 seconds later on your last location , easy to avoid

How to Anger :

Reduce it's HP

Signs of Anger :

Twitches and roars , black smoke comes out from it's mouth

Softest Parts :

Tail >>> Leg / Head >>> Main body / Shell Neck

Tail :

Can be sliced off

Strategy :

A Monoblos and Diablos are relatively similar to each other , except a Diablos is way bigger than a Monoblos. ( Thus , stronger ) Their combat styles are similar but it's charge attack is a bit tricky to avoid , you might want to go between it's legs , which is practically impossible most of the times as it lowers it's head as well ( This is only possible when your already directly under it ), or keep your weapon and run!! *Ahem* Either way , if , during it's charge attack , it rams into a specific wall , it may be stuck for a while so strike it hard at that time. When it buries itself under the sand , you may use a Sonic Bomb and 1/2 of it's body would be exposed for quite some time while it is trapped.

Basarios :

Attacks :

- Spits a ball of fire ( May spit several times )

- Charges forward

- Swings it's tail around

- Swings it's head

- Roars

Weakness :

Dragon >> Water / Ice ( Can't remember which :P )

Breakable :

Shell on it's chest

Strategy :

This is a freaking annoying enemy for Blademasters. It's entire body is practically an impregnable fortress and the only solution is an equally sharp weapon , which your unlikely to have early on or by using poison and bombs. By using bombs , make sure every blow is directed at it's chest and once it breaks , you can hit the soft meat that is exposed and voila , it is good as dead. Since it often appears in the Volcano region , make use of the Explosive Rocks that are around the area as well.

Gravios :

Attacks :

- ( All of Basarios Attacks , except fire spitting )

- Kneels and emits sleeping gas ( White Gas , causes Sleep )

- Kneels and emits flammable gas ( Red Gas , burns you...ouch )

- Lowers it's body and sends a beam of fire forward...HOLY COW!!

Weakness :

Similar to Basarios

Tail :

Can be sliced off

Softest Parts :

Belly >>> Tail >>> Rest of the body

Strategy :

This is like the Basarios , except it is far larger and not to mention , dangerous. If your too far , it would send a beam of fire or charge at you. If your too close , it may whack you with it's body or emit dangerous gases. Despite how bad as* it sounds , it is actually quite slow and easy to avoid and unlike the Basarios , you can slice through it in specific places.

Shogun Ceantaur :

Attacks :

- Moves left and swipes it's claw

- Moves to the front , arms wide apart , then swipes it to a close ( Large radius damage )

- Jumps down from the ceiling

- Digs underground and appears , devastating damage

- Swings 360 degrees with it's claws , hard to avoid if too close

- Moves forward and swipes it's claws

- Moves forwards and lands one of it's claws , takes some time for it to withdraw that claw

- Rams backwards ( Rare attack , unlikely to occur )

- Shoots a jet of water ( Only for Ceantaurs with Wyvern Skull Shells and only when it is on the ceiling )

Signs of Anger :

Bubbles on it's mouth

Dying Signs :

Black Bubbles on it's mouth

Breakables :

Claw , Leg

Shells it might wear :

Wyvern Skull , Seashell-like Shell ( The Wyvern Skull ones tend to be more annoying and also the most common )

Softest Parts :

Legs >>> Body >>> Shell >>> Claw

Strategy :

This is actually quite similar to it's Daimyo cousin. However , it is relatively smaller and it mainly uses claw attacks. Again , just jump between it's legs and focus your blows on it's legs. However , unlike a Daimyo , it is also significantly faster , is able to jump onto a ceiling and some attacks cannot be avoided by simply jumping beneath it's legs.

Yian Garuga :

Attacks :

( Everything is the same as Yian Kut Ku , except it spits poison )

- Kneels , lifts itself with it's wings and flips over and hits you with it's tail , very high chance of causing poison

Signs of Anger :

Poison mist surrounds it's mouth

Dying signs :

Damaged / Smaller ears , limps

Tail :

Able to slice off

Breakable :

Ears

Softest Parts :

Head >>> Tail >>> Leg >>> Wing >> Body

Strategy :

To hell with this thing... Despite it's similarity to a Yian Kut Ku , it is significantly faster when angered and definitely far more powerful. Poison is also a much more pressing problem compared to small balls of fire. Use similar methods you have against a Yian Kut Ku against it but this would be alot more dangerous and caution is to be heeded. Note that it's body is also relatively harder and if your a Bladesmaster , focus your attacks on the head and tail if sharpness is low.

Rathalos :

Attacks :

- Sends a fireball straight ahead...RUN!!

- Swings it's tail 360 degrees

- Charges forwards

- Roars

- Flies backwards and lands , usually sends a fireball along with it's flight

- Flies around the map , usually used if it senses the Hunter but cannot spot him / her

- Flies upwards , stays airborne , then it may send a fireball down ( If angry , it may send a flurry of fireballs...Incoming!! )or flies extremely quickly towards you to claw you , it may cause poison and both attacks are extremely dangerous.

Weakness :

Water / Ice / Dragon

Breakable :

Horns / Claws on wings

Tail :

Can be sliced off

Softest parts :

Head >>> Tail >>> Leg >>> Wing >>> Body

Signs of Anger :

Roars , then there is a fire mist around it's mouth

Dying Signs :

Limps

Strategy :

This is an extremely dangerous foe. Especially it's airborne attacks. When it is airbone , I recommend you to flee as far as possible as it is difficult to tell which attack it would use , the fireball attack is relatively easy to dodge even when it's angry but it's claw attack is almost impossible to dodge and the damage is devastating. When it's angry , it is also relatively fast in combat. Despite all this , you should not feel discouraged by a Rathalos isn't one of the strongest Wyverns for nothing.

Rathian :

( Similar Attacks to Rathalos , except that there are no airborne attacks )

- Kneels , flies upwards then flips itself to hit you with it's tail , may cause poisoning

- Shoots 3 fireballs , one forward , then the other 2 sideways.

Weakness :

Ice / Water / Dragon

Breakables :

Horn / Horns on wings

Tail :

Can be sliced off

Signs of Anger :

Roars then fire mists appears on it's mouth

Dying signs :

Limps

Softest Parts :

Head >>> Tail >>> Leg >>> Wing >>> Body

Strategy :

This is extremely similar to the Rathalos in various ways. So the same skills is needed to bring it down. However , you ought to learn the harsh truth that it shoots 3 fireballs when it's on land but it sometimes shoots a single fireball , it's easy to avoid when your used to it , however. It's flipping attack is pretty annoying as well so it's best if you stick to it's sides when your fighting it.

Duo Strategy :

In some Quests , you may have to fight BOTH the Rathalos and Rathian. Naturally , try to single one of them out and injure that one as quickly as possible as these male and female wyvern tend to stick to each other like glue. Either way , the injured Wyvern would retreat at an abnormal schedule so the two wyverns would end up seperated most of the times , making it easier to bring them down. However , for safety purposes , bring several healing items , some traps and at least some flash bombs.

Queen Vespoid :

This is a new G Monster by the way

Attacks :

- Flies towards you , twitches it's abdomen and stabs you with it's needle , may cause paralysis

- Sprays a disgusting yellow liquid infront of it , lowers defence

- Flies straight towards you and smacks you

Strategy :

This is actually quite a feeble boss monster. Except that you may have to lure it out by killing it's Vespoids. A Queen Vespoid attack pattern is similar to a Vespoid , other than the spraying attack and it is also alot more bigger than even the biggest of Vespoids. The safest area to attack it is behind it...oh yeah , this isn't exactly a Chief's Quest but I thought I should include it due to it's simplicity. ( Despite that , it's materials can be used to make a Rare 6-7 Weapon and Amor set )

Tigrex :

One of the most feared Chief Quest Monsters you will ever encounter...mainly because of your lack of proper equipment of course. Once you get decent weapons , a Tigrex is nothing but a walk in the park but skill-wise , this is one of the most challenging monsters.

Attacks :

- Charges forward , may continue charging by turning around roughly about 65-75 degrees , after the charge , it would either pounce or bite

- Bites one to two times , alot of movement so it can potentially hit you even if your of a medium distance

- Kneels a bit and then swings 360 degrees , it's difficult to avoid close range but when it lowers yourself , it's your signal to dodge.

- Roars , if your too close , it would knock off some HP and if your far , it would act as a typical roar.

- Pounces forward

- Raises it's front limb and knocks the ground , 3 boulders would come flying towards you...RUN DUDE!!

Weakness:

Lightning , Dragon

Breakable :

Horn , Claw on it's wings

How to Get Drops :

When it's biting , lure it to a wall and let it force it's teeth into the wall

Sign of Anger :

Leaps backward , flaps open it's wings , raises itself and roars. Some parts of it's body turns red.

Dying Signs :

Constantly gets Angry...this is why a Tigrex is difficult to finish off

Tail :

Can be sliced off

Strategy :

Holy cow...this is a difficult foe indeed. When it isn't angry , it can be considered slow for dodge-based weapon users and you can easily avoid it's attack and strike back. But when it's angry , it's lightning fast and difficult to fight against. When it is angry , it is wise to protect yourself rather than focusing on attacking and if possible , try to force it to bite the wall so you can get a large opening to attack it. Try to slice of it's tail as early as possible as well , weaken it with every method possible.

Since Felynes can hardly get close to a Tigrex to land a decent hit , make sure you use a Peace-Loving or Cowardly Felyne for support purposes. However , if you must insist...

Dragon Element

Fall 7x Rise 8x ( Or replace this with Status inducing effects or Element Damage Up )

True Health Flute

This concludes Part II. Check out Part I if you hadn't seen it yet. From Part III onwards , I would provide recommended Felyne Ability , Items and probably Equipment Set against Elder Dragons.

Monster Hunter Freedom - Chief's Quest Guide

Well , consider me a spineless worm but I don't feel confident writing an FAQ for any gaming sites so I'm writing a blog guide instead :P

Either way , if your a rookie Hunter , read Part I

Part I : Introduction to the Monster World and Early Boss Monsters

Weapon Guide=========================================================================

Sword & Shield :

With this weapon , you can block and dodge efficiently but this weapon lacks power compared to the other melee weapons in the game. This weapon also lacks range and is unable to reach certain parts of the monster compared to weapons such as the Long Sword. However , it makes up for these weaknesses with the ability of a proper dodging capability and blocking , which something most weapon lacks as a combination.

Dual Swords :

This weapon , too , have a short range but is relatively more powerful compared to the Sword & Shield. You can only dodge with this weapon as well. However , with the Demonization Ability , you can dish out heavy damage but you need your weapon to be of it's perfect condition to use it efficiently. So if you have plenty of Whetstones , Traps and Power Drinks , you'd be a dangerous being indeed.

Great Sword :

This weapon have a decent reach and not to mention ample amount of power along with a blocking ability , which most high damage melee weapons lacks. There is also a charged attack for this weapon so if your good in your timing and reflexes , this is a good weapon to consider. However , this weapon is also fairly slow and combos are hard to chain together.

Long Sword :

This is my personal favourite. A Long Sword have a fairly long reach and have the 3rd highest base damage in the Melee Weapon list. It also have a Spirit Gauge , once full , your Sharpness and Attack prowess would be dramatically increased and if you use the Spirit Attack , it's something like an equivalant of a Demonization Ability. However , you need to charge the Gauge by whacking monsters repeatedly and this weapon allows dodging only.

Lance :

This is a defensive weapon and this can cause you to be an impregnable fortress if you are calm in the mind along with the proper abilities in place. For it's special ability , it's a charge attack where you can potentially run through a monster provided that your weapon is sharp enough. Again , I must emphasise the fact that this weapon is only meant for those who are calm , patient and is able to judge the situation carefully as it cannot allow the user to dodge efficiently so you are heavily reliant on blocking.

Gunlance :

It's combat style is similar to the Lance except that it have several crucial differences such as it's ability to fire short range rounds and it's Wyvern Fire attack. This weapon is surprisingly powerful and your able to chain normal stabs with firing of ammunition as well. The ammunition is unlimited but it will rust your weapon extremely quickly , not to mention that the ammo cannot be fired if your weapon is ina poor condition. It's Special Attack sends a large blast after a short charge and it will deal devastating damage to any opponent , the only draw back is it's charge time , the rusting of your weapon and the amount of time it takes to reload the attack.

Hammer :

This is a useful weapon if you know how to use it. Like the Great Sword , timing and proper dodging is neccessary. However , the Special Attack of the Hammer allows you to send a devasting blow after it is fully charged , if your standing still , the character would swing his / her Hammer and send it downwards , if your running , he / she will spin in circles. The drawback of this attack is that you would be left vulnerable during and after the attack for quite a while. The Hammer can also potentially knock out a large monster if you hit the head repeatedly.

Hunting Horn :

This is the best weapon in the game PROVIDED that you know how to use it. ( I can't :P ) Technically , this is similar to the Hammer in various ways but it have a special ability that allows you to play notes. Naturally , all horns have a restriction on what notes they can play and when certain notes are chained together , they can become temporary status boosts to your character and your allies.

Light Bowgun :

As it's name suggests , it's something like a crossbow. Essentially , a Light Bowgun is lighter and easier to dodge with compared to it's heavy counterpart. The advantage of using this is the large variety of Ammo you can use towards your advantage at a distance. The downside is that a single battle can consume alot of ammo and you have to either make or buy them to replenish your supplies.

Heavy Bowgun :

This is pretty much identical to the Light version but it is relatively more powerful , harder to dodge with and to move with. Well , one more info about the bowguns is that you can Level Up the weapon but you can't turn it into another weapon compared to the Melee Weapons. But you can also add a Zoom Scope and a Power Barrel to Enchance damage and range or a Silencer which is almost useless to be honest or a Shield to protect yourself against attacks. I recommend a Zoom Scope for all your guns and Power Barrels for the Light Bowgun and a Shield for the Heavy Bowgun. Not all Ammos are applicable to all Bowguns as well.

Bows :

Bows do not have ammunition and in fact , you can spam your arrows all you like. However , Bows have a fixed Elementand it have a fairly low Base Damage. However , you can add Coatings to it to enchance it's performance but like Bowguns , not all Coatings can be used on every bow. A Bow is also easy to jog around with and dodge with as well , I consider this a perfect weapon for Rank 3 - 4 Chief Quests if you lack proper armor or melee weapons. Bows can only Rank Up as well by using Materials and Money by the way.

BasicInfo ==========================================================================

Health : This...is really obvious. Essentially , you would be sent to the Camp if you ran out of Health and your Reward would be reduced. Most Quests usually allows a total of 3 failures.

Stamina : This is actually quite important but not neccessary to survive. This allows you to run or climb more quickly , charge certain attacks a bit longer , dodge etc. etc. You can increase it's capacity by eating Meat or you can make it infinite for a limited amount of time by drinking a Power Juice.

Sharpness : For Melee Weapons , Sharpness is everything. Without it , your weapon would rebound EXTREMELY easily and your damage would be dramatically reduced so pack some whetstones along with you!

Supplies : Their basically free stuff to use for the Quest. Most of the items in it is required to be returned after the Mission.

Rewards : Other than Money , you get materials as rewards after the quest. Note that by breaking certain Monster Parts , you may get the item of that part after the quest.

Angry Monsters : Angry "Boss" Monsters can turn out to be extremely dangerous foes , often it may be wise to retreat and recuperate instead. They become faster , their attacks become more irrational and harder to dodge and their damage increases.

Chief's Quest - Early Large Monsters and Wyverns =================================================

Well , this is a guide on how to defeat some of the monsters in the Cheif's Quests.

Giadrome :

Attacks :

- Kneels down and pounces , damage inflicted if your hitted when it lands

- Moves backwards a bit and comes striking down with it's claws

- Spits out a snow ball , if hits , you'd become a snowman. So prepare some Thawing Agents.

- Bites

Recommended Strategy :

It's very simple , just wait for it to strike and quickly send a flurry of attacks from any direction then move away. Repeat and you'll win in no time.

Dying Signals :

Flees

Bulldrome :

Attacks :

- Kicks up some dust and charges , quite difficult to dodge , it'll continue charging after it setted it's eyes on you so get moving , it would continuously charge for roughly about 3-5 times before it starts to kick up some dust again.

- If your too close , it may swing it's tusks around and move to face it's back , dodge when this occurs.

Recommended Strategy :

Stick to it's back and continuously pound it from there , it's not recommended to face it head on as it would charge at you.

Dying Signals :

Flees

Congalala :

Attacks :

- Pounces forward quickly

- Jumps into the sky and slams into the ground

- Puffs up it's belly and slams forward , perfect opportunity to attack

- Starts swinging it's arms left and right and then slams backwards onto the ground , the slam causes shockwaves so avoid that as you'd get stunned for a while and waste a chance to attack as it gets up.

- If it ate the stuff on it's tail , it can potentially breathe fire or poison so watch out.

- It'll swipe it's claw forward.

- It'll charge forward

- Release gas....dodge this one at all cost

- Uses it's faeces to attack you

Recommended Strategy :

It's actually quite slow compared to most other monsters. The perfect opportunity to attack is after it had finished attacking. If your using long ranged weapons , attack while it is still attacking and dodge away.

Weakness :

Fire

Breakables :

Horn , Claw and the stuff it's carrying on it's tail.

How to Anger :

Reduce it's HP

Anger Signals :

Red face and butt

Dying Signals :

Starts to move in a crippled fashion

Yian Kut Ku :

Attacks :

- Spits a fire ball infront ( When angry , it would send this attack side ways )

- Charges forwards ( When angry , it would spit fire balls as well )

- Swings it's tail around 360 degrees( This is a basic Wyvern attack so learn to dodge this well )

- Twitches and "roars" ( This is a perfect timing , strike it head on! )

- Flies backwards and lands , alot of wind is being swept up so don't move to close to it.

- Flies towards you if your too far away

- Swings it's head side ways

Recommended Strategy :

Attack only after it had attacked , simple as that , early monsters just require basic timing and judgement , that's all.

Weakness :

Ice / Water

Breakables :

Ear

How to Anger :

Reduce it's HP , bomb it , use a Sonic Bomb

Signs of Anger :

Fire breathe

Dying Signals :

Ears are folded , starts to cripple away

Cephadrome :

Attacks :

- Rises out of the sand and spits sand ( When it's swimming in the sand )

- Jumps out of the sand and dives into it again ( When it's swimming in the sand , may causes paralysis )

- Swings it's tail 360 degress ( Basic Wyvern attack )

- Spits sand

- Turns to it's sides and rams forwards ( Hell , dodge this one )

- Jumps out of the sand and moves in a snake like manner before standing

Recommended Strategy :

Bring plenty of Sonic Bombs to force it out of the sand , then continuously strike it.

Weakness :

Ice / Water

Plesioth :

Attacks :

- Shoots high pressure jet of water forward or in a 180 degrees radius when it's swimming.

- Leaps out of the water and moves in a snake like motion before standing

- Swings it's tail 360 degrees

- Shoots high pressure jet of water

- Moves sideways and rams into you

Recommended Strategy :

'Kay , this is one of the most difficult early monster to hunt. Essentially , bring along plenty of Sonic Bombs and long ranged weapon users have a better chance in defeating it as a Plesioth have a large body , thus a higher chance of hitting you and the damage it dishes out is no child's play. Just take care not to kill it in the water otherwise you wouldn't be able to carve anything out of it.

Weakness :

Lightning

Softest >>> Hardest Parts :

Head / Legs / Tail >>> Neck / Main Body

How to Anger :

Throw a Sonic Bomb at it while it's swimming

Signs of Anger :

Mist surrounds it's mouth

Dying Signals :

It's fins will lie flat

Daimyo Hermitaur :

Attacks :

- Moves sideways and whack you with it's claws

- Moves to the front and whacks you with it's claws

- Moves backwards and rams into you

- Completely blocks itself by covering itself with it's claws ( Use Sonic Bomb if you want to make it come out )

- Jumps up and lands , fairly large radius of damage so take care

- Covers it's face with it's claws and then shoots a large jet of water

- Digs underground and appears on land again , devastating damage.

Recommended Strategy :

A Daimyo is dangerous to Blademasters and Gunners alike. Their irradical movements and attacks makes it seemingly hard to avoid but there is actually quite a easy way to avoid it , dodge below it's legs and you'd be able to avoid most of it's claw attacks. Keep attacking it's legs as well as it would cause it to fall onto the ground for a while which gives a chance for you to release a flurry of powerful strikes.

Weakness :

Lightning

Breakable :

Claw , Leg

How to Anger :

Reduce it's Health

How to Get Drops :

Finish watching it eating and get whatever is left behind

Softest >>> Hardest Parts :

Legs / Face Region >>> Claws / Wyvern Skull Shell

Anger Signals :

Bubbles appears on it's mouth

Dying Signals :

Black bubbles appear on it's mouth

Blagonga :

Attacks :

- Swings it's arms , kneels and pounces forward

- Roars and summons minions

- Throws a large block of ice upwards which shatters upon hitting the floor

- Breathes out an icy breathe

- Leaps backwards ( Usually when it's angry )

- Raises itself and lands by it's tummy ( Shockwaves )

- Swings it's fists forward

Recommended Strategy :

It may appear fast but don't let that overwhelm you. After some time you ought to notice every attack would leave a temporary opening , take advantage of it. The recommended time to attack is when it lands by it's tummy , throws a block of ice and breathes out an icy breath.

Weakness :

Fire

Breakable :

Fangs ( Requires Fire to break )

How to Anger :

Reduce it's HP

Signs of Anger :

Icy breath

Dying Signals :

Starts to limp

Khezu :

Attacks :

- Swings it's tail around 360 degrees

- Kneels and sends electricity around it's body

- Swings it's head a bit and kneels and spits out 3 lightning bolts infront of it ( This is like a shotgun , if your close to it , the more danger you face )

- Swings it's head side ways

- Swings it's head like a whip (More Difficult Quests Only)

- Drools acid from the ceiling (More Difficult Quests Only)

- Lands from the Ceiling ( More Difficult Quests Only )

- Leaps forward

Strategy :

The softest part of it's body is it's head so focus on that part. It may be difficult but read it's movements , it'll be more vulnerable after releasing electricity so watch out for that. Note that getting hitted by it's electricity may result in devastating damage , even more so than a ram from a Plesioth.

Weakness :

Fire / Dragon

Softest Parts >>> Hardest:

Head >>> Leg / Wing >>>> Back / Tail

Item Drop :

After drooling from the ceiling , it may drop something ( More Difficult Quests only )

Signs of Anger :

After Roaring , it would have a misty breath around it's mouth

Dying Signs :

Damaged body , limps

This concludes my Part I Guide , I'm kinda tired so I'll write up a Part II which covers the Diablos , Monoblos , Gravios , Gravion ( Or whatever it was called ) , Shogun Ceantaur ,Rathalos , Rathian , Yian Garugaand the feared Tigrex. Afterwards , Part III would be devoted to the Elder Dragons ; Kashula Doara , Teostra , Lunastra , Chameleos , Kirinand Giant Monsters such as Lao Shan Lung and Shen Gao Ren. Part IV would be devoted to G Rank Monsters. Then , I'll make a Part V for recommended Felyne Cooks and Comrades.

Just in case your wondering why some points aren't included for some monsters...their either not applicable or not neccessary. For the Elder Dragons , I would specifically add what gear , equipment etc. etc. to bring along.
