I wouldn't say it's 1:1, but I would say the controls work very good for the game. The animations are there to keep you on track and to allow for power swings etc. (i.e. like in Mario Tennis where you clock up before you hit). I find the controls to be very responsive and work very well with the M+. Mind you, I've put hour upon hours into the game. You may have just gotten it and are still getting used it. It's ok, you'll get the hang of it. Just quit concentrating so hard and have fun. I was on the verge of taking it back to the store within' the first couple of days I got it. I stuck with it and I'm so happy that I did. It's a really well done attempt in using the M+. Not perfectly 1:1, but it's close enough and works really well after some time invested. It also helps if you're in a bit of shape. Davey, maybe you're just weak? Try hitting a bit harder.

Ok, I've played Virtua Tennis extensively. Let me give a word on both the controls and online system... Controls, they work beautifully. Sometimes they're quite forgiving, but that's not a bad thing at all. Lobs are easy to do, slices can be tricky, but you'll get it after a while. Syncing is annoying, but it's really not that annoying. You just have to point the cursor for 2seconds and voila, it's all done. No sync issues ;o) Everyone thinks you need to go to the Online portion on the front screen, that is not the case. You only do this when you want to play a friend. If you wanna played ranked matches, go to the world tour mode and select the Online HQ. Here you'll be able to do online tourneys and ranked matches (which are amazingly fun). I have no trouble finding people usually. Occasionally, I'll go in, wait a couple of min. and no one appears. I come out and come back in, and I get someone. Once you get someone you'll usually continually get that person unless you kick their ass enough times or they kicks yours, at which point, someone will quit. Again, I haven't had any trouble finding people and there's only one spot where I've noticed lag. That's when you're serving and the other person returns it. It'll be a bit delayed, but then after that, smooth sailing. Again, this game rocks and I recommend if you're unhappy with Grand Slam's controls to give this puppy a go. It's quality gaming here...and exercise at that.

I can't vouch for Grand Slam since I haven't played it. Though, Virtua Tennis is seriously an awesome awesome awesome game. I highly recommend it. The controls take a while to understand/realized. Once you get it, playing is a dream.

I haven't played Grand Slam, but I've had Virtua Tennis for a few days now and I'm simply loving it. It took me 2-4 hours to get my head around the controls (yes, it takes a bit of a commitment). Once you get it though, the game plays beautifully. You really have to have a bit of space to place since the controls require you to put a bit of back into it. I only really have a couple of gripes. One is that you have to turn on M+ every game you play, which is a tad annoying. Second, the coach/training part of the game doesn't really help you learn the maneuvers and such. To learn the game, just play against the computer, mini games or online. That was the best way I found to learn how to play instead of trying over and over to follow the diagrams the game gives you to play. Now to reiterate, I really love this game. Playing online is a dream, especially when you're destroying. Oh, and those game animations of when it shows your character swing is supposed to be a queue to follow through. The design works quite well and reminds me of how Mario Tennis 64 played. Quality game...

This game is actually really good. The online is great as well. I've been playing it up like none other. My entire right side is soooo sore and I like it. This is the best tennis game I've ever played. I don't understand the issues you're having with the controls. I had trouble at first, but after about 2-4 hours of practice (it takes some time) you really get the hang of it. I've been creaming people left and right online. Occasionally there will be lag when the person returns a serve, but other than that, it works like a dream. Seriously, this game is quality goods and I wouldn't be surprised if we see more positive reviews. p.s. I can't say anything about Grand Slam, but that looks to be good too. I just like the fact you don't have to press "any" buttons for Virtua Tennis and the speed of the game is just phenomenal (I've seen videos of Grand Slam and it looks a lil' slower paced.)

I jumped back on the video game bandwagon after being off for some time getting a DS back in Nov. '06....then it went to the Wii that same year...and here I am, buying an Xbox360 for GTAiV...yep...I'm getting sucked in.

But damn, is it fun.
