Well, earlier Ipod versions were indeed compatible, as I used to use an old nano. I tried my Iphone, and it wouldn't work, and I couldn't try my Ipod touch 2g because I sold it.

Wait, so you want to remove your HDD, put it into an enclosure, and hook it up to your PC for backup and then restore it afterwards? I'm pretty sure that's possible. In theory, the HDD is just full of 1's and 0's, which means you're simply moving those 1's and 0's around. If you could get software which lets you properly load up PS3 data and stuff, then it should be possible to store and restore data onto a HDD with an enclosure attached. Only problem is, if you want to back up your entire HDD like this and the problem is within the HDD, then you're screwed unless you buy an external HDD and do a traditional full system back up (assuming you have and want to keep copyright-protected saves).hazelnutman

Don't provide false hope. No such software exists, nor will it ever...legally. Sony has taken great measures to assure the content and hardware included in the PS3 is secure. Look what happened to our OtherOS. Sony saw it as a potential danger to the console's security, and removed the feature completely.

Well, here's the jist of it...on a legal standpoint. The content being given away may have been free, but since he was not affiliated with SCEA, he is not allowed to disclose said material in any form of sweepstakes or "giveaway". The content itself, being owned by Sony, can only be distributed through any means Sony chooses at their own discretion. Forum mods know this, and they also know that Gamespot could be found liable for allowing such practice to occur on their own network, effectively providing a means for infringement. Just covering their ass, really, I don't blame them.

Actually...no, you're out of luck. To pull directly from the hdd, all content must be either backed up using the back up utility, or pull it off via manually transfering to external media through the XMB. You could get an adapter for the computer, but it won't be able to access the drive since it's encrypted. You could clone the drive, but you would just be duplicating the problem onto another drive, and still be stuck at square one. Now, with all that said...if all you're looking at is a corrupt file system, the PS3 can repair that automatically without formatting the hdd. Make sure your console is off with the red standby light, and press down on the power button until you hear it beep a few times and turn off. Remove your finger, and do the same thing again, only after the third beep, instead of turning off you will see a recovery console on your screen. Select repair file structure, and it should fix your problem, if that was indeed the issue.

[QUOTE="celebate"]

[QUOTE="jshaas"] You can get up to 1080p with component... except with Blu-Ray because of the piracy protections it has.jshaas

You can get 1080p with component cables? Thats news to me.

Yes, you can. I know several HT installers that prefer the component cables over HDMI because the analog connection is lossless. HDMI, being a digital connection, will lose bits of information going from source to source... not enough that the average person will notice. This, like anything else, is based on personal preferences. I had compnent cables for my PS3, and then switched to an HDMI cable so that I could get the full resolution on Blu-Rays. It was also nice to go to a single cable for video and audio.

Component is lossless? Since when? The very fact that it's analog means the stream is compressed. I'm not saying HDMI is completely lossless either, as it does have a bandwidth limit, and the quality in turn depends mostly on the equipment used. Some media may look better when viewed through component, but it's a very small percentage. Keep in mind that you will never view full 1080p with most content, as it's locked out by industry standards. Sure, they are capable of it, but if you want to see that BluRay movie in all it's 1080p glory...best pony up for the HDMI.

I spent almost $200 to replace my launch console with Sony. Worth every penny, and I would do it again...then again...let's hope I don't have to...

Ok, ftw, if the $40 box at the store says HDMI, it is 1080p capable. If the $8 box at the store says HDMI, it is 1080p capable. If the clearanced $3 box at the store says HDMI, it is 1080p capable. Do you see where I'm going with this? Price and manufacturer make NO difference. In order to meet HDMI standards and be merchandised as a purchasable product under said peripheral, it MUST operate at the same specifications as any other HDMI cable.

You see, this is what I don't like. People post on a forum saying the complete opposite of everyone else just to be different. This remark may have been true for the analog video era, but NOT digital. If you use HDMI, cheap or expensive, you either GET signal, or you DON'T. It's that simple. Buying a $5 HDMI cable from Newegg.com won't lower your image quality compared to a higher end cable.

Most games, at least with high production values, will support local multiplayer if it has online multiplayer. Resident evil 5 is local AND online co-op. Don't know about Death Spank since I did not purchase it...with not liking the demo one bit and all. And modern warfare only has local co-op with only special ops. A good way to tell while you are shopping for a game at Gamestop or another used video game store, is to just read through the manual from the display case.

Is there any difference between HDMI cables brands? Because I saw one at Future Shop for 60$+ an official Sony one at Archambeault (library that sells music and video games here in Québec) for 20$...

DemonIced

No difference in brand, but there's a difference in revision. To get the most out of your PS3, especially if you have a True HD setup, make sure the cable is 1.3a...shouldn't be difficult since they are found EVERYWHERE and I have seen the former in quite some time.
