I think Sony will be behind all the way to the end this gen. They might almost catch up at the very end or do it good next gen if they realize a multitude of software is just as, if not more, important than spiffy hardware.

GTA IV, the action scenes, especially the opponent AI is laughable. It seems like every single step the enemy takes is pre-scripted and triggered by you standing in the exactly right spot. It really beats me too how this game could get so high scores. Good story and open-ended gameplay is not enough, IMHO.

Well now I know for sure that I will get this game when I see it for 25-30 bucks.I hate playing through a storyline that is boring and dull.Especially a shooter...and especially when there are games out there like Bad company that can offer tons of action and explosions but bring a great and FUNNY storyline.I don't want to buy killzone and get all depressed.I have had enough of that crap for one lifetime...K1LLR3175
Bad Company is really good, I'm an old BF fan and I even stretched myself to learn to play with the console controller. Of which I'm happy because I now can enjoy KZ2 :-) I too miss the humor in most games, too serious story with stereotypical characters just doesn't cut it anymore; amazingly enough that's what's still being done in the AAA games such as KZ2 and Gears of War. But trust me, you wont be dissapointed, the feel of the gameplay in KZ2 is just so great that it balances out the downsides, IMHO :)

[QUOTE="emitsu97"]*facepalm First, you're comparing a full SDK to XNA? Second, Sony offers a full set of development tools optimized for the CELL and RSX, not to mention shared resources among the development community. Third, Sony has offered to match each dollar of development for those who keep their products exclusive to PSN and allows the dev to maintain all the rights to the IP.

First: All you need is XNA and an Xbox to start developing. If you want to continue to be a pro the step and cost is much less that Sony's SDK was before the price drop. Second: My rant is based on what I've heard/read from game developers, it's a pain to develop for the PS3 compared to the 360. The dev-kit and resources in the community for for the 360 is just way way better and easier to grasp. Third: Still, charging for the bandwidth!? Developing for the 360 is like doing it for the PC, and people have been doing it for many years. To compete with this Sony needs to have an edge in the support for the dev-community, and as far as I've seen they don't. Just look at how bad all the PS3 versions of multiplatform games have turned out compared to it's sibling.

I'm not going to mention the price of the console because it's very debatable if it even should be considered expensive thinking about what yout get for your money.

But...

First off; the price of the developer-kit that just got lowered in price from $10.000 to $2000. This could very well be too late because many developers are already forgetting about the PS3. Compare this to the Xbox 360 where you can start developing games for free using XNA.

Second; The unwillingness from Sony to make it easier for developers. I don't have much hard evidence here except from what I've read in interviews with developers. If it's that hard to develop for the PS3 Sony should support the developers until they think it's easy to develop for ;-) Not PR it around to trick the consumers by saying: It will increase the lifetime of the console.

Third and last: Sony's charges publishers for DLC bandwidth. What the flying freakin ****!!? Ok, so the publishers are not going to break a leg putting that DLC content on PSN. Proven true already.

Think about, Microsoft gives you *blah* money for making your game exclusive to their console. You compare this to the alternative; a very probable financial dissaster because you have to find skilled people who know how to develop for the PS3, these people don't grow on trees like the Microsoft developers do, they live in dark basements and have a very sadistic nature. How else could they be good at what they do? They sure didn't get any help.

Mod edit - Removed censor bypass.

I read on the internet that they will make a game-pack and release Halo 1, 2 and 3 on the PS3 this summer.

i was really looking forward to this game but after the most recent preview i read in PC gamer my interest in the game has died down, seems the game is being dumbed down to cater to casual gamers rather than a the sticking to the ultra hard unforgiving gameplay which made the original OPF such a success.

Of course, that's how you make money. This is not to be confused with the qualities of a game that makes people remember it :-P
