A very fun game, but it is far from perfect.

RDR is a very engaging, fun, and entertaining game, but it's pretty rough around the edges. With basically a clone of the GTA engine, anyone that has played that franchise will undoubtedly know the frustrations of close quarters combat. Although there is a nice animation feature if you are in very close proximity to an enemy (you grab them, put a gun in thier stomach, and boom), for the most part, death will surely find you and leave you angry.

There are some graphical issues as well. On a few occassions people that I have hog tied become invisible with just the ropes wriggling around on the ground. Also, there are some pop-in issues. For the most part though, the graphics are very well done.

The sound is top-notch. From the guns, to the environment, right down to the crickets in the brush, everything is superb in the sound department.

Voice tracks are very well done in the storyline, but your general townfolk repeat themselves far too much. Although the townspeople seem to respond to your 'honor' rank as it changes, for the most part you will be able to recite everything word for word after about an hour of play.

The highly touted online play is just OK. Joining a posse and taking out hide-outs is certainly fun, but most of what you will find is you are working alone, and a random player will show up in the middle of your battle and shoot you in the back, only to be gunned down themselves three seconds later.

It is overall a very good game. I would recommend it to people, but do not expect the highly polished '9.5' that most review sites are giving it.
