Before buying this game, i hadn't looked it up or anything. I didn't know anything about it. It was only one day when i was a my local GAME store, when i saw it, and thought to my self:

'Hmmmm.....maybe ill get it, i loved the 2nd one on the dreamcast'

Anyway, i bought the game, got home and popped it in (literally). And after that, i don't think i even got out of my chair until i had it completed. I didnt even allow myself out to any toilet breaks or even for water. The game was just so immersing.
The first thing i noticed about the game was the graphics in the first cut-scene. They were amazing, the best i had seen. I could tell they were cut-scenes using the in-game engine, and that just made the whole thing better. I couldn't wait to get control of Leon (my all time favourite Resident Evil character by the way).
So when it first started, i noticed the different view. I thought this was strange but played it a little. I'd never played a game where you look over the characters shoulder. Anyway, i got to my first fight with 'Los Ganados' and after shooting him a few times in the gut, and then it the head, it felt very satisfying. I was already comfortable with the controls of the game, and found the 'over-the-shoulder' view first-rate.
After that, things just kept on getting better and better. Every so often, especially in the village, i would just wonder around in amazement at the amount of detail in the environment. Women stuck to walls by pitchforks rammed through their heads was very splendid lol. And the cows were very amusing, not just to look at but also to kill. (one point, what was Capcom thinking, i mean, it would take just one shotgun blast to the cows head to kill it, not two) Anyway, to summarise the environment into one word: marvelous
As for the gameplay, another perfect part of the game. Its what made this game more action-orientated (thank god!). Its just pure pleasure shooting at someone with your laser sight shining on them. Its works so well in conjunction with the Gamecube controller and is whats gives the game its 'wow' factor. Getting headshots on enemies as easy as ABC thanks to the control system. Thats why its so satisfying to shoot an enemy and see them stumble backwards, or fall. And the headshots look amazing as the enemies head is shattered leaving only an open neck. As for the 'boss' fights, they are pretty cool. I myself am not a big fan of boss fights in games, but with this game it is different. They are actually fun, although some do scare the hell out of you. Anyway, before i start rambling on about characters and spoil the game for some people, im going to sum up the gameplay part as: superexcellent (yes, that is a word!)
So overall the Resident Evil 4 experience was superb. The graphics and gameplay were first rate. I loved the story of the game, and liked the way Capcom had made a game that wasnt based in Raccoon City. Oh, and did i forget to mention, the game is also scary, as it should be. To sum up the game: exceptional
