Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition Review

  • First Released Oct 4, 2011
    released
  • PC

One of the greatest games of recent years makes its way to the PC with Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition.

Last year, Dark Souls was released on consoles. A towering achievement, its treacherous, interconnected realms offered some of the most absorbing exploration a game has ever conjured, and its intense and grueling combat made victory against even the most common enemies a source of gratification and relief. Now, this masterpiece has made its way to PC as the aptly titled Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition. This version adds a few new areas, improves on the console versions in one sense, and falls a bit short of its console counterparts in another. But ultimately, this is the same incredible game that was released on consoles, and if you didn't have the option to play it then, you definitely shouldn't let this opportunity go unseized.

Now Playing: Video Review - Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

You are undead, struggling to fight your way through the realms of Lordran on a quest whose final purpose is anything but clear. Where many games burden you with plot and background lore, Dark Souls lets the places you go tell their own kind of story, one lost in time and shrouded in mystery. The stone ruins at Firelink Shrine, the overrun town known as the Undead Burg, the vast marble halls of Anor Londo--these all speak of a once-prosperous realm rich with history, and rather than spelling it out in detail, Dark Souls lets you wonder about what has dragged this land into its current state of miserable disrepair. Item descriptions and brief conversations with non-player characters occasionally illuminate the smallest aspects of Lordran's past, and over time, you may piece together a reasonably fleshed-out picture of the crisis that has befallen the land. But you needn't concern yourself with these details if they don't interest you. The wondrous realms of Lordran are sure to seduce you whether you care to know their history or not.

Darkroot Garden is so oppressively green that you can almost feel the air get warm and muggy around you. Running along the surreal shores of Ash Lake is like stepping into a dream. Locations like Anor Londo and the duke's archives fuse faded opulence with grand machinery in a way that's reminiscent of locations in the classic adventure game Myst, and like the realms of that game, these places have a way of staying in your head even when you're not playing. Terrific sound design is a huge factor in Dark Souls' ability to pull you in. Your steps echo convincingly in vast chambers. A heavy suit of armor clangs with every step you take. The strange noises a feared creature makes may send shivers up your spine before you even lay eyes on it.

Dude, what happened to your face?
Dude, what happened to your face?

From almost your earliest steps in this dangerous world, you're beset by enemies, and you quickly learn to never let your guard down. Even the most common and clumsy enemies you encounter have attacks that can make short work of you if you're not careful. Melee combat is straightforward; there are no elaborate combos to learn, and Dark Souls certainly doesn't need them. With the small assortment of attacks, blocks, parries, and evasive maneuvers at your disposal, the combat in Dark Souls becomes a deadly dance in which each of your strikes that hits its target is a small victory and each potentially devastating attack from an enemy that you narrowly evade offers a new lease on life. Just be aware that poorly implemented mouse and keyboard support makes playing the game that way much too unwieldy; the game demands a controller.

Each new area brings with it challenging new enemies, as varied and memorable in their designs as they are in their techniques. Huge knights slumber in a forest, slowly and menacingly getting to their feet when you draw near. In the painted world of Ariamis, foul abominations with repulsive toxic sacs around their heads threaten to poison you when you deliver the killing blow. And you won't soon forget the first time you're cursed by the big-eyed basilisks of the depths, as your body becomes covered in a crystalline growth and you freeze in a pained gesture as death takes you.

There's a wide variety of weapons to acquire and use, with each type offering a different fighting style. (Some swords are for swinging, and others are for thrusting, for example.) There's also a good assortment of weapon enhancement options. As you progress and collect crafting items, you find that you can have a blacksmith make your weapons more powerful, and eventually imbue them with effects like lightning or fire. Finding a better weapon or making your existing weapon more powerful isn't just a matter of added convenience; it can be the difference between survival and failure. And if you prefer to keep your distance from foes, bows and a diverse assortment of magic spells can be very effective, though you still need to frequently tangle with enemies in intense, close-quarters battles.

There's a wonderful sense of history to Dark Souls' varied, frequently beautiful realms.
There's a wonderful sense of history to Dark Souls' varied, frequently beautiful realms.

The stakes can be high as you venture through Dark Souls, making your determination to survive and persevere that much greater. As you vanquish enemies, you collect souls, which can be spent to level up your character, or to purchase items and services from the few blacksmiths and merchants eking out an existence in certain corners of the world. These souls are a precious commodity indeed, and should you fall in battle (and you will), your souls fall with you. However, all is not immediately lost. If, in your next life, you can make it back to the spot of your previous demise and touch your bloodstain, you regain the souls you had acquired. Perish again without recovering them, however, and they disappear forever. It's a crushing feeling to die, knowing that it means the permanent loss of a significant number of hard-earned souls, but it's precisely that danger that makes the struggle to stay alive so exciting.

In each realm of Dark Souls, there are bonfires that offer your only real sanctuary from the constant dangers you face. It's only at these locations that you can spend souls to level up, and when you perish, you restart from the last bonfire at which you rested. Because they serve as checkpoints on your journey, happening upon one can bring with it a tremendous sense of relief, since you know you won't need to overcome the dangers you faced to get here again. That feeling of relief is short-lived though, because you must soon press on into the unknown dangers that lie ahead.

The sense of trepidation that comes with forging on into unknown realms of Dark Souls doesn't subside after you've played the game for an hour or 10 or 20. It is a sustained feeling that arises out of the fact that you rarely know what lies around the next corner, or if you do, you haven't yet managed to overcome the challenges that await you there. That feeling of dread finds tremendous release in those moments when you finally conquer the boss of an area, and in the discoveries of the many shortcuts that link Lordran's realms in often surprising ways and give you the liberty to bypass long stretches you've conquered at least once.

In fact, few games offer a sense of exploration and discovery as rich and rewarding as that of Dark Souls . There is no hand-holding here, no NPC companion or helpful sign telling you which way to go next. Your discoveries are yours alone, and that makes them all the more gratifying. That's not to say that there is no assistance available for the wandering warrior, though. Players can scrawl messages on the ground that serve as clues or warnings to other players. It's a wonderful system that serves to remind you, as do the fleeting, ghostly glimpses you occasionally catch of other adventurers fighting their own battles, that although you are solitary, you aren't alone in your struggles.

Dark Souls is a shared experience in which each player must mostly fight his or her own battles. However, you can call on assistance in moments of need. Players can leave summon signs, and you can summon one or two of these players to your world to help you take on the boss of an area. (You can also leave your own summon sign, offering your assistance to other players.) These connections are fleeting--win or lose against the boss, players are promptly returned to their own worlds--but the impact they have on your journey can be tremendous. Not all connections with other players are benevolent, though. Under certain circumstances, other players can invade your world with the intention of seeking you out and defeating you. It's terrifying to be deep into a dangerous realm and get the notification that your world has been invaded. It's just another example of the ways in which Dark Souls keeps you constantly alert and a little afraid.

The battle with Artorias is one of the best and most challenging in the game.
The battle with Artorias is one of the best and most challenging in the game.

Unfortunately, summoning and invading are somewhat spottier on the PC than they were on consoles. When attempting to summon other players to your world, you may more often than not get a "Summoning Failed" message. Additionally, the PC version is locked by default at a resolution of 1024x720, though a user-created mod is available that resolves this issue. However, the PC version improves on its console counterparts in terms of performance; where the console versions suffer from severe frame rate drops in the area known as Blighttown, the PC version does not.

Most noteworthy in the Prepare to Die Edition is the added content, called Artorias of the Abyss. This content adds new areas that take you back into Lordran's past and find you going toe-to-toe with figures who loom large in Dark Souls' lore. Like many things about Dark Souls, the way in which you access Artorias of the Abyss is shrouded in mystery, and unless you investigate the world thoroughly and pay close attention to item descriptions (or just look up the instructions online), you might miss it.

That would be a shame, as the content thoroughly holds its own when added to the existing game. The bright forests of the Royal Wood offer an intriguing glimpse at the Lordran that once was, and the enemies who populate this land are as memorable as the rest of Dark Souls' fantastic stable of adversaries. Particularly excellent is a battle with the knight Artorias, a fearsome foe even by the standards of Dark Souls' challenging bosses. His appearance tells its own story; his armor drips with a purple substance that suggests the corruption that has befallen the once-noble knight, while his left arm hangs from him uselessly, a dead thing. He is frighteningly agile and powerful, and vanquishing him is one of the sweetest victories to be had in a game full of rewarding challenges.

Dark Souls is a game of tremendous beauty and unfettered imagination.
Dark Souls is a game of tremendous beauty and unfettered imagination.

Also in this new realm is the Battle of Stoicism, an arena for player-vs.-player battles. Here, you can partake in one-on-one, two-on-two, or four-player deathmatch battles with nothing at stake but leaderboard glory. Sadly, a number of issues make the arena a frustrating place. It's not unusual to have to wait several minutes or more to be matched with an opponent. (This is assuming you're playing the one-on-one battles, which are much more heavily populated than the other types.) Once you are paired up with a foe and dropped into the arena to see which of you can defeat the other the most times in a three-minute period, you can expect lag to plague your battle, as your opponent hops around the screen without animating properly and you sometimes take damage despite the fact that your opponent didn't appear to hit you. The arena's presence doesn't harm the overall game since it's entirely optional, but it doesn't bring much to it, either.

Despite this minor disappointment, Dark Souls remains one of the greatest games of recent years. There's so much to do and to discover in its beautiful and frightening world. You might encounter and join one of nine covenants, each with its own benefits and agendas. You might find that one NPC has murdered another and that you can invade the killer's world as a spirit of vengeance. The genius of Dark Souls isn't just in its environments, or its monsters, its thrilling combat, or the unusual and exciting ways in which players are connected. It's in the uncompromising way it throws conventional wisdom to the wind, dropping you into its dangerous world without guidance, making you fend for yourself, and teaching you to shrug off defeat time and time again to finally earn victory. That this vast and unforgettable masterpiece is now only $40 makes the decision to play it even easier.

it's sad that majority of people whine 'bout resolution and Xbox controllers, thus the game is "unfinished" and etc. You kind of what, need a manual how to push your buttons? Can't figure out - go ask Internet. Resolution options were a failure, yes, though they are fixed now. What is really horrible, that big part of these whiners love Skyrim and all that shit, which suffers from bugs and seems really "half-done". To Hell with skyrim, it's for lil' boys mostly (and surely, nice sir, happening to read this, it's not about you). Ppl are calling THIS game shit just because they have to fix their controls. And it's just like they don't get that GOOD game is a game with Lore, nice mechnics, plot, characters, and so on. This game has all of it. Damn, that moment with meeting Old Grey Wolf Sif after saving them in DLC-content is one of the most depressing and touching scenes I've ever encountered. World is beautiful (cuz of design works, not simple "resolution + FSAA+ Ambient Occlusion+...", and it's so detailed and interactive, that one can hardly find a game with similar attention to such details. Not everyone today remembers rogue-alike RPG "Barbarian", which was kinda predecessor to DS. It was hard, punishing. So is this game. It's for people, who like story told in action, not in scripts, who like hard games, who like to feel badass not by default, but after defeating a really strong opponent, it's deep game.

So, skyrim-lovers, high-end graphics lovers, please, GTFO, this game is not for you.

@124C1 The only thing I don't agree with you is about Skyrim. I love that game and I love Dark Souls. Of course, (in Skyrim) I installed difficulty and gameplay mods and made it deadly and similar to DS (not in purpose o_O), otherwise it was too easy (and in the highest difficulty mode, the enemies had too much health and it was ridiculous to watch them being hit so many times in the head and not giving a f**k :P). I really love DS as how it is and I really loved Skyrim for the freedom of doing whatever you want, go "discover" places, enemies, etc and admire the beauty of the world (I had installed my own custom graphic mod that made everything really beautiful and added a lot more immersion) and the ability to mod it and play the game just as you want (I didn't installed anything crazy).

@KeviNOlighT I respect everyone's point of view while they have their arguements and I am clearly aware that i am no shining crystal of Truth whatsoever. And don't say that Skyrim does not deserve fans. I said it does not deserve high marks it gets and GOTY title. It's just a plain RPG without inventive design works, creative things (and there might be). Bugs, crappy plot ('ANCIENT EVIL AWAKENED AND ONLY CHOSEN ONE...."), bad animations (and this is meant to call a sympathy at times), stupid combat system. There's lotta stuff to explore, but what for. Dead Ends of straight Dungeons are not for me, sorry.

And yes, that's what i tried to say. Dialogues, Item Descriptions, places. They all build a Lore. And It's really that interesting. But hey, most of players today would prefer a cutscene.

@KeviNOlighT Clearly see your point. I myself liked Morrowind with tons of shiny mods years ago. The problem is that you modify the game by content, which was not meant to be there in the first place.

Some Game concepts require modders' activity and such game becomes cool (and may be praised for additional content) if ways to create something are versatile, easy to deal with, have good potential (i think, LittleBigPlanet is one of such games). But again, modding is personal thing, it's very abstract, becuase everyone gets a game without mods and everyone decides on his own what to do with his game, changing its content, so i can imagine that modded Skyrim may be good potentially, but hey, that's can't be part of review, sadly, that is the reason i compare vanilla Skyrim to vanilla DS.

@124C1 Yeah, I liked Skyrim for different reasons than DS, it was more about the immersion for me (I played mostly on 1st person) and getting lost in the world, but, also when I modded it and I had this awesome feel of fear and danger every time I came across a troll, a dragon or any powerful enemy that's comparable with the feeling I had with DS in places like Blightown or when I encountered new enemies and didn't know what to expect. Of course DS is much better in those and most aspects but I liked how (without even having played a bit of DS) I made Skyrim play similar to this awesome game (not that I want Skyrim to be just like DS, they are different and I play them in a different way), so one of the things that I loved the most about Skyrim was modding it. Therefore, I cannot argue with you since I loved MY version of Skyrim and only liked the vanilla one.

@124C1 What plot and characters? It has nice mechanics, and a decades old checkpoint system that is suddenly new and refreshing.. Hitman was just as hard, because there were no saves..This game is about pure memorization.. Whoever has finished it knows exactly where each enemy is at every level, knows exactly what to do at each boss.. Some people don;t like this.. Most people don;t actually..

And a 9.5 usually means a must-buy for the genre lover.. This game is not a must buy..

@markosasav @124C1 Sorry, but do you need someone to read a script in front of you to get the plot? The story in this game is not only told to you by cinematics and such, but also through the characters and even through the items' description. I dare to say that this game ALONE has equally or more story than most other games' SAGAs (ENB :)). And that's just wonderful.

@124C1 @KeviNOlighT That is not plot or story.. That is lore.. Item descriptions are there to flesh out the world.. The actual story that plays out in the game is different.. That is like saying the books in Skyrim are the story.. Your character arc is the story of the game..

I will concede that the world lore is good if you take the time to find everything (and most people will not).. But your character's story, the plot that plays out in the game is very simple.. Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate, Kotor, ME.. There have been many RPGs with fantastic stories before.. And there will be many more..

@markosasav @KeviNOlighT So how could You estimate plot if U don't know shit about it? PLot of DS is as challenging as its gameplay, but it's rewarding.

Story is just told U by other methods, that's all.

I Find Hawkeye Gough, Artorias, Giant Blacksmith, Patches, Lautrec, Primordial Serpents and other memorable.

With no doubt, there are games where characters lead hell of a story and action, like ME (in my opinion, some of the characters there were very nice and memorable). But I could hardly say 'Lots of games" have cool characters.

@124C1 @KeviNOlighT Of course you do.. It's just left very vague.. Continuing the Kalpa in Skyrim is basically the same idea.. I think both DS and Skyrim have weak stories.. There have been lots of games that had much more memorable characters, plot, and pacing.. Both these games are nowhere near the top..And btw, where did I imply that Skyrim is this pinnacle of game storytelling? Skyrim is about the world, different systems interacting to produce as much a dynamic experience as possible.. With enough refinement this can lead to the perfect open world RPG.. That is why I appreciate Skyrim.. I played Dark Souls for the combat and the feeling of dread it produced.. But I'd never recommend anyone play either of them for the story..

@markosasav @KeviNOlighT You don't save world in any of DS endings. And just like VGjunkie87 said, you can simplify each story, it's not about what you do in the end, it's how you ended up doing things you do, motives, reasons.

I doubt you know much about plot.

It's actually Skyrim though having lotta dialogues, is not special at all.

DS by the way has very rich Lore to my mind.

@markosasav Well you can simplify almost every story-line to a basic and usually familiar scenario. There obviously isn't as much dialogue or lore in Dark Souls as Skyrim, there isn't supposed to be, the games are two very different experiences. Both are the best RPGs in their own ways to come out in some time.

@KeviNOlighT @124C1 Oh come on.. It is an immersive story, but it is really simple and very vague.. I can see how you can appreciate a story that is shown to you instead of explained in long exposition.. But the story itself is nothing special.. You save the world or destroy it.. And then you imagine the consequences..

wrong, the only reason you memorized all the enemies is becuz you died too much, i didnt remember most of the enemy locations on my 2nd play through, also saying something like this as a negative seems silly and childish no offense, it proves your not really a veteran gamer, do you know how many games out there you would memorize after finishing it? and even so...so what? ofcourse you would, after all youve been through, and im not just talking about dark souls, countless PS2 and 1 games were as hard or even harder than dark souls, youve spend countless hours fighting your way through it (or in today's sad petty gaming standards, a few hours fighting your way through and the rest is online) only reason why i didnt memorize all enemies is because of how freakin huge the game is...and the only reason u know what to do with bosses is because of something you and your skyrim lovers will never understand, its called training, its called actually knowing how to play in order to defeat the oponnent, its called observation, its called learning to use the enemy's techniques and advantages against it in order to kill it after it has crushed, squashed, maimed, stabbed, slashed, gashed, thrown, ate you to your death...and u know what dovakin boy? it feels fantastic, something skyrim players will never experience. skyrim's combat is just down right embarassing to be called new gen, keep swinging ur sword and the enemy will keep attacking, who ever dies first wins, so basically just get over the enemy level and winning is pretty much secured, provided you keep swinging ur sword. for god's sake my kid cousin finished skyrim on normal...holy hell how this game got game of the year is just completely beyond me.

@skyrimCODsuckas @124C1 Skyrim is not about the combat.. Most RPGs are not about combat.. I did say that the combat mechanics in Dark Souls are good.. Everything else is decades old design.. Restarting levels after you die, memorizing boss paterns, finding that ultimate weapon that beats all others.. That was fun years ago.. We should expect more..

Best game in a long time now on PC, a lot of effort from the modding community helped to work out some issues and increase the already great game. Thanks to the modders and From/Namco for making this the best Dark Souls experience available by far, if you haven't played this game or loved it on console I highly recommend getting it on PC. P.S. Dark Souls on PC now has its own dedicated Nexus modding site.

@vadagar1 I agree completely. I spent my first five hours figuring out how to correlate between the Xbox buttons and my keyboard buttons. Thats f*cking lazy if you ask me. I understand this is this their first PC port, but seriously, design it for a keyboard and mouse. Don't expect everyone to drop 40 on an xbox PC controller. Lazy.

@upol94 These reviews are purely subjective, even still, in my opinion The Witcher 2 deserves a higher score than this game solely based on their conditions. As far as the games alone they are both amazing.

This review, or rather the score, is proof that women cannot be taken seriously when it comes to gaming... and this has nothing to do with sexism. A 9.5 for a 1:1 console port based on 7-year old hardware? That's just ridiculous. Gamespot, you're losing credibility when you authorize this to go live.

I wouldn't go as far as saying women can't be taken seriously concerning game reviews, just that this reviewer can't be taken seriously when concerning game reviews. She gave L.A. Noire a 9.0(What???), SSX(No free roaming for a snowboard game? Play Amped 3, then review SSX) a 8.5, and this a 9.5(LOL).

I think a gamespot employee recently said that they are trying to review games more like the old days when xbox just came out, where a 8.0 was a great game and a 9.0 was a "must own" unless you hated the genre. Obviously that isn't happening. I clicked on this review because I haven't seen a PC game get a 9.5 in awhile and I proceeded to laugh so hard at the reviewer for the tenth time probably.

@ParaBellum71 Yeah, I was taking a jab at the recent feather flustering from all the feminazis over the "girlfriend mode" discussion, but I guess I should have made it a bit more obvious.

It's pretty clear that Miss Petit is untenable if she continues to release such idiotic reviews, pardon my french. But then again, maybe that's exactly what Gamespot wants. Heck, even I couldn't resist commenting, and I usually don't do so. A "review" like this gets people to visit the site, generating ad revenue. Credibility doesn't matter then, just like it doesn't to the Yellow Press.

That's obviously the direction Gamespot is heading to. So sad...

Does anyone know if the frame rate drops are LESS consistent on the XBOX versus the PS3 or if they are about the same? Also, I'm not just talking about Blight Town either. I know that part of the game is screwed up.

Why do people complain so much?? If you play with a controller (although there's a "mouse fix" mod), it's the same experience as in consoles version plus great new content. :\ But be sure to use DSfix mod because the game is so much better with it:

- You can play in 1080p or whatever resolution you want

- Change the scale and opacity of the HUD

- Play with a "minimalistic" HUD

- Mod the textures - HUD toggle on/off

- Take HUDless screenshots stored in a specified folder

- Ambient Occlusion - SMAA

- High quality DoF blur and custom DoF resolution

- Key mapping for features-toggle

- Skip the Intro logos if you got tired of them :P

- Save-game backups (at certain intervals to prevent cheating)

- Borderless windowed fullscreen mode

- Language override (for text)

- Mouse cursor visibility togge and capturing (for windowed mode)

Lol, I forgot there were so many features :P (and maybe I'm forgetting something). You can get the mod here http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=dsfix and the creator is always updating it (please support him if you can, he's awesome).

The game is just perfect for me, it has everything I wanted in a game (well, the graphics could be better, but I like them anyway).

To truly enjoy and appreciate this game you NEED TO:

1) Get your hands dirty with the required fixes and key-remaps if not using controller

2) Love skill-based medieval melee combat.

3) Be brave, enjoy challenges and have patience and persistence.

4) Have an appreciation for "the hardcore" and "underground" aspect of things. (If you like some of the more violent classic Anime movies/series, this is you).

5) Give each level/area a good try on your own using your own devices. Then consult a good walkthrough (I recommend the one from gamefront.com) so that you discover all that there is in each area, cos trust me you will miss a lot of important stuff.

6) Not expect a fantasy novel-like story and rather expect a "picture paints a thousand words" kinda story and appreciate the sheer quality of artwork, animation and details in the game which says a ton more than simple words.

IF and ONLY if you have the above requirements, then please do not be deterred by the negative comments and take the plunge into Dark Souls. It would be tragic if you missed this.

I haven't enjoyed a combat-oriented RPG this much since Ultima Underworld 1 and I'm so glad the developers made the port otherwise I would have definately missed the intense hardcore pleasure this game has to offer. All the graphical and speed issues can be fixed with DSFix and you can play this game perfectly well without a game controller by remapping the keys. Also I'm glad I'm playing the PC version which allows me to make manual quicksaves of the savegame file and reload when I die in really inconveniant spots. Yes I know I will be frowned upon for doing this by some but its saving me a lot of time and not spoiling the experience for me at all.

Absolutely love this game and I hope there will be many more releases by these developers. Respect and admiration to you FromSoftware!

I was interested with this game but i just realised reading the comments that it.s the old t"ough boss fights that require you to do them over and over until you get it right" type of gameplay and i've been DONE with that for about ten years. I was gaming in the 80's, back then that's all they had to add lasting value. NEVER again.

@Carton_of_milk You might like demon's souls then. The bosses are quite enjoyable for that game and can be completed with the proper strategy which isn't cheap like in dark souls. However, Demon's souls levels are a lot worse than dark souls just because of how they approach checkpoints or lack thereof.

@hellspoint I just cleared Bligthtown and catacombs and had no real problems so far. It seems like the difficulty of Blighttown where just overrated. So it more seems like most players just suck at the game.

one of the worst reviews ever.... Show me the consistency !!! Gamespot.... Yes it is a good console port but doesnot deserve 9.5. Its a Broken game deserved a 7.0 or an 8.0. Considering Guild wars 2 which is way better than what it got ... a 9.0. And before everyone has a go at me i am not comparing the two games . I am comparing the game quality.

And Just putting it out there if blizzard had made guildwars 2 Gamespot would have given it a perfect 10. I am seriously doubting Gamespot's journalism in the recent months.

After reading many of the negative comments it occurs to me that this game has two things that will make it difficult for some people to like:

* Challenging difficulty level.

* A very subtle but sublime sense of atmosphere that can only be appreciated after many hours of play. The world literally oozes character and style but it's understated and not so much in your face. It's in the sense of desolation and despair that overwhelms the player only to be broken every now and then by a short interaction with an NPC or a suddenly open vista of the sun shining on a dead world. If that sounds a bit too melodramatic, then you can see my point; some will love it to death, others will completely miss it.

@biIIy oh god get lost just stop you are annoing fanboy,i m sure you ve played it before on consoles ,dont make stupid statements about the reasons we hate the games.Do you really thjink we can t play it because of the difficulty?man for example i ve not started gaming yesterday there s no game that i would not play because of the difficulty, HERE s this ,THE GAME is buggy like hell on a very clean OS install drivers up to date and that kind of shit, maybe some of you overlook the bugs but i find it unacceptable on a game with a 9.5 review rating,UGLY graphics it just stands way behind what the PC can actually offer ,forgettable story, for me it s actually a game without a story,No choice,no dialogue,THERE IS NOTHING CHALLENGING ABOUT THE GAME,THE BAD DUDES ARE JUST EXTREMELY VERPOWERED.LET'S JUST BE HONEST THIS GAME HAS LITERALLY NOTHING GOING FOR IT,IT S PURE CRAP,SUPER HYPED CONSOLE SHIT AND A DISGRACE TO BE CALLED A PC GAME AND THE REVIEWRS WERE JUST AFRAID OF REALIZING THIS,THE OTHER REVIEWERS,CAROLYN TRULY SHOULDNT BE IN THIS BUSSINES!

@spn33 @biIIy

hehehe look at this little guy...ur cute arent u little boy? u suck...u just suck at the game, dont try to run, dont try to hide ur pride and grace as a "gamer" (although your not really a real gamer) the game is full of bugs? well that means ur pc/laptop sucks ass...sorry dude, i have an HP dv6 laptop and the game plays acceptably, a real gamer wouldnt care about the graphics, also its one of the most talented environmental art designs in gaming history, the combat eclipses most if not all of today's saggy dog dung you people seem to call games ( yah i said it, games today are nothing but a soggy piece of dog dung, 10 hour campaign and the rest they work on how pretty the game is, your kind is what made games the massive dissapointments they are today, caring only about graphics instead of art design, combat, lore and story, skyrim's story is one of the most overrated stories i have ever seen, (evil in form of a dragon awakes, one chosen will kill dragon then save humanity) if every skyrim player says they didnt hear a similar story before playing it is just proof of how talentless the game really is, and how skyrim fanboys are just lying to themselves, no im not just complimenting dark souls, im complimenting how gaming was, how gaming shouldve been...but ull never understand, for people who play games for graphics...although you say you dont and will never admit the truth, leave this hobby cuz it aint for you...go watch a high quality CGI movie...its the same only there arent any buttons to push and maybe a little shorter...well...in today's game duration standards at least.

@spn33 "THERE IS NOTHING CHALLENGING ABOUT THE GAME,THE BAD DUDES ARE JUST EXTREMELY VERPOWERED." it's a contradiction... maybe they are for you...

I can get very far away in the game without dying... not OVERPOWERED, simply, very powered...

@spn33 Good way to tell who lost the argument: first person to resort to insults or caps-lock.
